  1. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply!
  2. I'm running 10.6.4 with the Darwin 10.4 kernel (it appears to be running the 32bit kernel as '64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No'). Which update/combo/pkg do I need to update to 10.6.7? Ideally 64 bit. Would that be the regular updater, and just check permissions, etc. before reboot? Thanks.
  3. PCI Firewire card

Hi, can someone please recommend me a PCI Firewire card that will work with SL (board is a Rampage Gene II). Thanks much!
  4. Asus Rampage II Gene Hackintosh

I'm running Darwin 10.4.0 - do I need a patched kernel to support all cores and avoid setting cpus=1 in BIOS?
  5. Asus CG5290 Rampage II Gene 9 Gb Ram GTX 260 Hackintosh

Thanks for that Hackintosh2000. So I opened up your DSDT and the first thing I notice is that Scope_PR is different. I'm kinda clueless about DSDT. For comparison I've listed mine (Rampage Gene II) below, and the same section from the CG5290 underneath. As you can see, some of the Alias statements are missing from my Rampage DSDT. But why does yours only list up to Alias (PR009, CPU9)? Here's my kernel info Mach kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 10.4.0: Fri Apr 23 18:28:53 PDT 2010; root:xnu-1504.7.4~1/RELEASE_I386 Kernel configured for up to 2 processors. 1 processor is physically available. 2 processors are logically available. Processor type: i486 (Intel 80486) Processors active: 0 1 Primary memory available: 6.00 gigabytes Default processor set: 78 tasks, 474 threads, 2 processors I have CPU=1 set in BIOS, but of course it won't boot OSX if I set otherwise Running 10.6.4, 64-bit. Bootloader is Chameleon. CPU is 930. Is it possible there is a DSDT/bootloader (Chameleon) conflict here? Anyway, back to my problem. I have only 1 cpu running. Have read the common solution to this problem is to remove the Alias lines from Scope_PR. Others say it is a bootloader problem. But you have Alias statements in your Scope_PR, and all cores running. What do you think? 6. 2nd Processor Core Causes Lag

I think this is a general issue, and I have the same problem with an Intel i7. Anyone got a solution?
  7. Asus Rampage II Gene Hackintosh

Did anybody get all cores working? I have a 930, which only works with 1 core enabled in BIOS (v 1501)
  8. Thanks for that - will have a look at themes.
  9. 10.6.4 DVD drive slow / not working

  10. I need to set up a dual boot machine, probably using Chameleon (unless there's a better suggestion). What I need is a large/plain/simple boot menu (no command line stuff) where someone can click on a red icon for one OS, and blue for the other, or anything that presents a simple A or B choice. OS's will be SL and W7. Is there a way to do this with Chameleon, or any other boot loader?
  11. Upgraded from 10.6.2 to 10.6.4 and found the DVD drive is not working properly. Its OK for read most of the time, but not for write. Had a LG in there, and swapped it out for a Samsung, and finally a Pioneer (DVR-218L) - all SATA drives. When I put in a blank DVD it runs very slow, then the dialog pops up (ignore, eject, etc.). So I try Disk Utility, or Toast, to burn an image/files to disc and it just goes very, very slow, and seems to hang. Found some threads via Google, but nothing conclusive (some people resorted to using an external USB/Firewire DVD drive). Apparently, its a known problem. Cannot see any specific fixes in 10.6.5/6 - but might it be worth trying the upgrade? Any other suggestions? Asus Rampage Gene II/940/6GM RAM Nvidia 8800GS. Everything else seems to run just fine.
  12. Asus Rampage II Gene Hackintosh

Got SL installed on this board using dgsga's guide (many thanks). The only thiing I'm missing is eSATA. I guess I missed something, and/or need to edit something, to get eSATA back. Can someone point me in the right direction please? BTW, highly recommend this board!

OK, I found out a few things: My USB DVD drive is NOT DL - duh... So I put back the SATA DVD, and put the hard disk on an external USB. Using EFI, the install now completes. So I replace the EFI DVD, reboot, and select the install, system starts booting, and hangs after PATCHED DMI TABLE Hope I've not made any more silly mistakes, but any ideas? UPDATE - OK, I'm in - running SL from the external USB drive (which I'll swap into the PC case later). This might be a better option for some - if you have an external USB caddy - use with a SATA DVD (saves buying a USB DVD). Where I just went wrong was - I forgot to boot from 1.02/4 EFI. I was able to boot from 1.04 as OP suggested, get into SL, then swap to 1.08 EFI to apply the updates in Extras. Now I need to sort out the video card (8800GS), and, I guess, do some patching... Its looking good.

Just got hold of an external USB DVD drive. Able to boot using the EFI x.08 version boot disc When I switch the disk to SL Retail, and press F5/Enter, nothing happens. Its like the system is not seeing the new disk. Can I get system attention 'boot:' and enter some parameters on the command line? (what?) Switched to the Rampage boot disc, and when I switch to SL Retail and press F5/Enter, I get a message 'memory error' - this was not showing on the EFI disc. USB DVD drive is set in BIOS as the first boot device. Any ideas?

OK, found the C-state options - bottom of CPU options. Swapped LG drive for Samsung, and found that DVD on SATA1, and disk on SATA3 gave a better result. Hard disk LED was not illuminating previously (except a flash at boot) but under this config drive access improved. Got into Disk Tool, created partitions (before it got stuck at 'unmounting disk....'). But it hung halfway thru formatting. Tried an older Pioneer IDE DVD drive - booting from EFI gives an IO type error. Have ordered a USB DVD drive. Any suggestions while I wait? EDIT - forgot to mention that when I pulled the 1x2GB, it hung on 'waiting for root device' - now back on 6GB
