problem boot with Sapphire HD 6950 2GB

I had the same with a ATI 6850 1 GB Card. I came past the white scren with GraphicsEnabler=yes, but I cannot change resolutions and have no accelertion, and the resolution seems to be something like 1024*768. Luckily I had an old nvidia card laying around so I am now using it, but I am looking to get the ATI card working as well. I also had to Remove ATI6000Controller.kext during Installation. There was a discussion that removing ATI6000Controller.kext may prevent some relevant kexts to be installed, but that doesn't appear to be the case. When having booted with GraphicsEnabler=yes it looks like the ATI card is not at all recognized, no ATI kexts are loaded...

Updating to 10.7.2(Final) failed KP and reboots

Hi, found the solution in another thread in this forum. I had to add this: <key>SMboardproduct</key> <string>Mac-F221BEC8</string> to /Extra/smbios.plist 10.7.2 boots after that for me. Regards, Stephan

Updating to 10.7.2(Final) failed KP and reboots

Hi, I am facing the same issue. I can also access the Lion Partition via another Partition. tried Chameleon r1496 as well as Chameleon r1618 but no success. I have no sleepenabler kext installed, but did try the most recent sleepenabler.kext also, but also no change. Also, changing the graphics card from ATI 6850 to the old NVIDIA 8600 didn't change anything. Disabling the azalia codec (ALC889) in BIOS didn't help. I am also using a GigaByte Mainboard: gigabyte ga-ep35-ds3p, 8 GB Ram, Q9550 QuadCore CPU. Any Ideas? Any success Stories in upgrading to 10.7.2 especially on GigaByte Boards? (for now, all people in the thread use GigaByte boards ...) best regards, Stephan
  4. 6850 works out of the box for me as well as an 6450 in another PC. regards, Stephan

    ATI Radeon 6xxx, working QE/CI

Hi Thireus, my artifact pattern look different. See some post above in this thread for a screenshot. It happend within the safari window on heavy scrolling. To disable Quartz2DeXtreme: Install xcode, then go to utilities (i think, right now i have no mac at hand), there is an utlity called quartz debug, i think it may be also named quartz simple, that allows you to enable or disable Quartz2DExtreme via menu in Gui. See here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...&pid=227749 In this thread also onsole comands for enabling / disabling are given. regards, Stephan

    ATI Radeon 6xxx, working QE/CI

one single detail that i found is: in firefox, when you open the url about:support, it tells you wether it uses GPU acceleration or not. My other Hachintosh using a nvidia 8600 card does use acceleration My MacBook Air has it enabled too My Hackintosh with the ATI 6850 has GPU acceleration disabled. I do not have the feeling that firefox is running "slow" or has any problems, but i just found this specific details and was not able to have it showing GPU Accelerated Windows 1/1. Regards, Stephan

Has anyone gotten the Radeon HD 6850 working in Lion?

I did not use a particular install method. I was running SnowLeo with chameleon, and I just ran the install from an install media, which I created on an USB HDD from the available tutorials in the internet. Basically, you - extract the plain Lion intstaller - restore the image it contains to the USB HDD / Stick => at this point you have a bootable install media for updating any original mac. => now, add the hackintosh related stuff to that media: - install the recent chameleon boot loader to the USB disk (that one for Lion) - copy your DSDT.aml and possibly extra extensions to /Extra on the USB medium - boot from that medium - run Lion install => now you have Lion installed on your HDD. Because it is a Hackintosh, it cannot yet boot from that HDD, therfore - again boot from USB medium - install chameleon on your Lion HDD - (if you did not upgrade a previous installation, install all required stuff in /Extra ) => I did an update and had all stuff for /Extra already in place. Though I did not follow the guide in every single step it was a very good reference for me (in german language). http://www.root86.org/showthread.php/3276-...-%28IntelPCs%29

Has anyone gotten the Radeon HD 6850 working in Lion?

a Sapphire 6850 works for me OOB for both Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Lion. I went for the Sapphire 6850 (and not another one or a stronger card) because i was looking for a good balance between power ( do not care so much the power consumption itself but the associated noise) and performance. Rewiews always stated low noise for the Sapphire that's why I chose it, and I am lucky with it. No enabler needed, also use GraphicsEnabler=no in chameleon, so i is plain vanilla. Had some trouble with it on Lion initially (garbled screen in Safari and other apps) but that was solved by disabling Quartz2DExtreme. AFAIK it is disabled by default anyway, that probably why no one else had this problem, but I had enabled it earlier because it did run fine with my previous card (a nvidia 8800GT). So you should have fun with it. regards, Stephan

    ATI Radeon 6xxx, working QE/CI

solution found: when running on my nvidia 8800GT, i had enabled Quartz2d Extreme using the QuartzSimple tool AKA quartz debug. It has always worked like a charm for me. In LION, with the new ATI 6850 card, I had to disable Quartz2DExtreme to get rid of the screen artifacts desribed above. So I am a lucky man for now but still have to make my mind about what i loose when i cannot use Quartz2DExtreme with the 6850 card. Maybe I should go back to the nvidia card? I am not a gamer, at least not on the Hachintosh. Maybe it will be fixed / improved in the next update. regards, Stephan

    ATI Radeon 6xxx, working QE/CI

another Info: same card, same computer. but SnowLeo 10.6.8 => all looks fine So maybe I face a LION driver problem?

    ATI Radeon 6xxx, working QE/CI

maybe a clarification: when scrolling in safari, only safaris window content is garbled, rest is fine. See the attached file for an example. Moving safari around on the desktop doesn't change anything, but as soon as another window overlaps safari (only a little bit is enough) safaris display returns to normal. I did exchange the card against another one of the same make and kind, and have the same probs, so i think i can rule out the 6850 card. btw, i am lucky with the fan speed. It is less lound than my MSI geforce 8800 zilent. regards, Stephan

    ATI Radeon 6xxx, working QE/CI

Hi, i have tried a Sapphire Radeon 6850 in my Q9550 Hackintosh (Gigabyte Board) and faced some issues running Lion: 1. card was autotetect with no enabler etc nessesary. I like that because it is more vanilla 2. when doing very fast scrolling in text pages (like google search results) I get a garbled screen. Scrolling slowly is fine. Problem exist in Safari and also in Preview viewing a PDF file, as well in word processing. But this problem doesn't happen in Firefox. 3. Cinebench R10 GL Benchmark is approx 6500 Points with my old nvidia 8800GT, but only 4500 Points with the ATI 6850. (it seems to be CPU limited as while running the test only one out of 4 cores has load, but that one has 100% load. Increasing the clock speed of the CPU also increases the Cinebench result) At the end the garbled screen makes it unusable for me. Anyone has the same problem or even a solution? May the card be defective? It is brand new, is and never was OC'd Thanks Stephan

    Working Realtek 8111E support

I installed the driver and it runs fine so far on 10.6.4 / 64 bit. I have found two drawbacks: 1. it doesn't support WOL when you have shut down the PC (i have never got that working but just installed another NIC for that...), so i don't complain but just noticed. 2. afer starting a packet capture with wireshark, it looses network connectivity. i would assume this is related with enabling / disabling promiscous mode. Network connectivity can be restored with ifconfig en0 down ifconfig en0 up over all, i can live with it, and it gives me a benefit because bonjour / multicast ist working. regards, Stephan
  14. md5 is the same. I'll give it a try Works great on eeePC 901: - downloaded your kernel - ran the 10.6.4 Combo Update - copied your kernel to /mach_kernel, changed ownership to 0:0 - applied 27ae-Patch for intel GMA950 Graphics = all fine for now...

    SL 10.6.2 on eeePC

Thanks for that, Mike! Seems like I´ve made a bad mistake when patching the AppleIntelGMA950.kext ..... it works now! BTW, I am using the binpatched russian kernel from 10.6.2 right now without any issues. The CPU is recognized as CoreSolo, Hyperthreading works on my eeePC 901 To be honest, I doubt that Apple intentionally dropped Atom support, because there has never been Atom support as such in the past, the atom CPU always was recognized as unknown. http://teateam.blogspot.com/2009/11/mac-os-x-1062.html (in the upper right corner there is a google translation available!)
