  1. Dell Precision M3800

    I will post the options of the unlocked BIOS here so everyone can see it.. I'm afraid to switch to anything other than SG (Switchable graphics) because I might not be able to get the screen to get on when I save BIOS.. I have to be super careful before I change that because Optimus goes through integrated graphics display and if I turn it off it might mess it up.     Hey Austin, I got the laptop.. I unlocked the BIOS (patched it I have the latest version A08) and I have a TON of options in the BIOS now.. Including the ability to completely turn off integrated graphics and go discrete over SG (Switchable Graphics).. Have you tried this in order to go with Nvidia Quadro only as the primary PCI-E GPU? It looks like that Optimus can be completely switched off. I am trying to install now .. your downloads (clover config file) doesn't work. So I'm trying to put together the files I need..

    Great answers.. sadly I was hoping that Nvidia Quadro was not Optimus but obviously it is.. One of the biggest reasons why I got the M3800 (I bought it I'm just waiting for delivery). But I'm guessing for coding and Photoshop and stuff I use the most it should work fine on Intel graphics. I'll be getting it probably next week so hopefully you'll check in and help me out a bit setting it up. I'm no novice in setting up hackintoshes (I've done it on ASUS G750JX laptop and built many hackintosh desktops before) but I would try to minimize the amount of time trying to get it to work as hopefully the only real difference between our setups is the Wifi card and slight bump in display resolution. One last question for now until I get it.. Is Thunderbolt 2 working for you fine? The reason why I'm asking this is because I'm considering trying to get the eGPU setup where I can have a dedicated GPU card that is connected to the M3800 via Thunderbolt 2 as I've seen some setups out there.. so when I get home I can hook it up to desktop level GPU.

    Hi Austin, I just ordered (expecting delivery of the updated Dell Precision M3800). I have a few questions for you.. So in order to access necessary bios options (like MSR unlock) and other stuff in order to be able install OSX I have to patch the BIOS per your instructions initially.. is this still relevant? Not sure if the updated M3800 is using the same bios. I'm interested if you can run OSX 10.10.x with Nvidia Quadro enabled or you are running it as Intel HD4600? Is there a way to disable optimus after bios patch? My version is the Ubuntu one instead of Windows (not sure if they change any hardware based on that - I doubt it but I guess it's worth of mentioning).. Haswell CPU i7 4712 16gb of RAM DDR1600 M.2 slot for the drive and SSD 2.5" Dell Wireless 1560 2X2 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0 (this is Broadcom chip not Intel) 15.6" UltraSharp™ IGZO UHD Touch (3840x2160) I would be interest if you could check out the new configuration and let me know if the specs look the same to yours hardware wise (i think it does).. Curious about the touchpad and what you did there. Would really appreciate if you could write a more detailed guide.

  6. I can get NVCAP from the video bios ROM I created with GPU-Z in Windows.. NVCapMaker gives me 0400000000000100000000000000000700000000 as NVCAP.. The issue is now when I put this NVCAP in plist and create an EFI string IOReg still shows a different NVCAP not the one I put. I then tried to put in NVCAP directly into DSDT and boot it like that.. still shows the same weird NVCAP and not the right one when I run IOReg.. not sure if Nvidia driver is overriding the NVCAP or something but can't get it to take my new NVCAP.
  7. Any help or suggestions welcome. The display port is working good on Windows, however it's not recognized in OSX 10.9.3 with the latest Nvidia drivers. Can someone check out my IOReg and let me know if the Display/Nvidia properties are set properly. I don't know the connector types or NVCAP stuff to make sure display port is working. Thanks.     Hey Nikolaj, can you upload the compiled version again.. downloads are not available anymore. Or let us know how to compile from source.. I tried with gcc on OSX but am getting some errors.. I'm not a C guy so it's a bit over my head. Or could someone PM me the compiled latest version. Thanks! I have a quick question. I'm using G750JX from ASUS and it's using AMI UEFI bios.. considering that the warning is not to try this on a laptop, is that still valid with the latest UEFI bios for laptops from ASUS?   9. Freezing with 2 Nvidia cards

    So I solved the problem, so just wanted to share here. The GTX 580 freezing I was getting was for 2 possible reasons. I plugged in 2 of my displays into GTX 580 and 1 display into GTX 275 (before it was 2 displays into GTX 275 and 1 display into GTX 580) and I added the device ID for GTX 275 ( 0x05e610de&0xfff8ffff ) into NVDANV50Hal.kext and everything started working flawlessly.
  10. Freezing with 2 Nvidia cards

    Hi.. so I have pretty much great working hackintosh but I have one problem that someone might be able to help me out with. I have ASUS P6T, GTX 580 and GTX 275 cards in the machine. Install goes great, I have everything working, both cards recognized great, EFI strings in chameleon.boot.org and QE/CI working fine. The problem is that my GTX 580 freezes after a few moments of inactivity for a few seconds. Now at first I thought it was Fermi freeze and I edited AGPM and all that but no matter what I do the freezing occurs. It doesn't matter if my machine goes into G-State 3 or not (even if it's running in state 0, or state 1 or even state 2 consistently it still freezes after a while). So I was completely out of ideas, UNTIL I took out GTX 275 out of the machine. This solved the freezing completely. GTX 580 works like a champ and no freezing happening anymore. So my question is, since NVDAHal100 kext is addressing newer Fermi cards, am I missing something here that's causing this freezing. Again, the culprit seems to be GTX 275 in the same machine. As soon as I take it out and run GTX 580 alone it's great. I'm not sure if I need to delete some kexts that deal with GTX 275 part, or I'm missing some modification to the file that would define what card is where like that GFX0 and GFX1 or whatever order. That's the only thing I didn't do because everything was recognized nicely. I'm stumped with this problem. Any ideas?

    Yay! Finally managed to get everything working.. Your PLIST was awesome and just what I needed So.. I can see the transparent bar on top now meaning the QE is working. </dict> </plist> - After I modified the chameleon.boot.plist file I installed the GTX 5xx enabler (from OSX86.net - i included the installer in my zip file as well) and just picked the GTX 5xx enabler only and installed. GTX Enabler will make sure to fix and patch whatever you need to get CI/QE and it will tell you to remove AppleUstreamUserClient kext from S/L/E - After all this, ran the [url=&quot;http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/&quot;]#####[/url] again but only selected System Utilities to rebuild caches and fix permissions Rebooted and voila. All working great and I see transparent bar on top as CI/QE is working. Hope this helps those who have issues with blank screens and kernel panics even though they added the device IDs in NVDAGF100Hal and added EFI strings/hex into their boot.plist. The key was device-type NVDA, Child setting in EFI string if you have dual cards.     Yeah.. it's weird but I've noticed that your PLIST is far more extensive and it also has parameter multi board capable. This is very possible it was the reason why it was causing problems with my setup too.. Could I use your PLIST and just change the VRAM size for both GTX 580 and GTX 275.. is there anything specific in your PLIST that should not be applicable to GTX 275? Also, when you say ApplePowerManagement patch, what do you mean exactly? Are you talking about deleting it completely or you did something else?

    Just double checked.. yes.. in verbose mode I can see NVDAGF100Hal.kext being registered OK.. I actually added the device ID.. this one: 0x108010de&amp;0xffe0ffff Installed the CUDA drivers.. applied the TonyMacOSX86's Fermi 100 OpenCL enabler 10.7.2 through [url=&quot;http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/&quot;]#####[/url].. I deleted the AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext because I read that should boost the GTX 580 performance The only thing that I didn't delete was ApplePolicyControl.kext inside the AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Plugins in S/L/E Maybe I should just take that GTX5xx Enabler for 10.7.2 from OSX86.net.. I read a lot of people are using that but as far as I understand that basically only patches the NVDAGF100Hal.kext with a few device IDs for difference GTX 5xx cards. How did you setup your GTX 580s? Do you have QE/CI working?

    You are a genius man.. booted straight up, all monitors working and all cards working.. Thank you SOOO much! I've wasted 2 weeks doing all kinds of {censored} and it was that simple. And no modification of NVidiaHal100 either. Everything works great. Many thanks again man.. Now it would be truly fantastic if I could get QE/CI working. How do I test to whether or not I have it working. I can see immediately that the GTX 580 is not running at full speed because when I hit widget dashboard it's super slow. I've read 15 different versions on deleting some kexts but since you have helped me a lot Matze.. I would definitely follow your advice. Is it possible that QE/CI is not working now because i am using vanilla NvidiaHal100 file.. if I add the device ID of the GTX would that enable QE/CI or is there something else at work here?

I just switched the cards in PCI-E slots now I can boot into OSX ..but 275 DVIs are not working.. the GTX 580 is recognized and is working fine in full resolution but the GTX 275 is not being fully recognized (meaning with DVI ports and all). GTX 275 is now recognized fine as far as System Profiler goes and it says like it is in the plist but no picture on the 2 screens connected to it.
