  1. Awesome. I have same computer... question is did you need to change the wifi card or did the stock card work? Unfortunately my built-in WiFi is not working (no working kext for the BCM card) and I have settled on an EdiMax 11n dongle which works very well. Also, after installing the SleepEnabler kext for 10.6.4., the sleep is partially working now - I am use the power button (from the control manual) to put the laptop into sleep, and use the power button to wake it up. With VooDooHDA 2.6.2, the audio also works after wake up.
  2. Hi, Zack, Thanks for your wonderful guide. I followed it to install 10.6.4 on my dv7-3186cl and mostly succeeded (GeekBench = 4430). But I still have a few things not working: - Sleep/Lid sleep - no scrolling on the touchpad - No audio over HDMI - no brightness control Has anyone solved any of these problems? Thanks in advance
  3. Thanks for the pointer. I did read that thread but was a little worried about using kextcache command since the man page advises against using kextcache in 10.6.x (instead, it recommends using "touch /System/Library/Extensions" in 10.6.x... but nothing is said about /E/E in the man page). Well, I guess I will give the kextcache a try next time when I change /E/E.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a way to refresh E/E cache from unix command line (i.e., without using the Kext Utility)? I am Unix guy and really like to do things from a terminal window if possible
  5. Hi, When I want to force a refresh of the kernel cache after I change something in /S/L/E, I simply remove /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext and reboot. This works fine for me. But how to force a kernel cache refresh if I make changes in /E/E? Thanks in advance.
  6. My HDMI is working with QE/CI with everything, but there is no sound. What am I missing? I wonder if anyone has the audio working over HDMI for HP dv7. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  7. Found it - RealtekR1000SL.kext. After putting it in /S/L/E and rebuilding the kextcache, the LAN is working perfectly now.
  8. Hello, Does anyone know which kext I should install to enable the LAN port on the dv7-3186cl? I've installed SL 10.6.4 (using 10.6.0 retail + 10.6.4 combo update) following the guide at <http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=218768>. Thanks in advance for any info.
  9. I've installed SL 10.6.4 on my HP dv7-3186cl laptop following Zack's "[GUIDE] HP DV7, Windows 7 and Snow Leopard" <http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=218768>. In general, the installation seems to be stable, fast, and very usable. There are only a few minor issues: 1. No ethernet 2. Brightness control not working (Fn keys F7 and F8) 3. HDMI works but without audio 4. Sleep not working I believe it uses the Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset. Any help would be appreciated.
  10. With -v busratio=17, it gave me a KP after finishing loading the kexts. It seems to relate to something called "org.slice.driver.FakeSMCRadeon". Among other things, it says: Kernel Extension in backtrace (with dependencies): org.slice.driver.FakeSMCRadeon(1.0)@0x5d641000->0x5d645fff dependency: org.netkas.FakeSMC(2.7.2)@0x5657b000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.3)@0x565c5000 This is strange since my graphic card is nVidia G-105M. Any idea? A picture of the KP is attached here. [EDIT - SOLVED] Very importan to remove all the ATI* kexts from /S/L/E and boot with "-f" flag. That, together with the "busratio=17" option, solved the KP problem. I can successfully boot into 10.6.4 now.
  11. I am a newbie here and am trying to install SL 10.6.4 on my HP dv7-3186cl laptop following Zack's "[GUIDE] HP DV7, Windows 7 and Snow Leopard" <http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=218768>. Here is the specs of my laptop: HP dv7-3186cl Intel Core i5-430M 2.27GHz 4GB DDR3 Memory NVIDIA G-105M (512MB dedicated) New OEM 640GB Samsung 7200RPM HD BIOS version: F.15 BIOS vendor: Insysde I used MBCD.iso for the OS X installation and everything went smoothly as described in Zack's guide. I then followed the Post Installation steps and installed the Chameleon bootloader and copied the files. But I skipped step 4 and didn't install any "Extra Kexts and Fixes" since I was unclear which ones were necessary and which ones were optional. I thought I could come back and fix the non-working devices one by one. After installed Qoopz 10.4.0 legacy kernel and 10.6.4. combo update, I went to reboot the machine from my HD without the Boot CD. But it only gave me the silver Apple boot screen for 1~2 seconds then the screen went black and then the Chameleon bootloader screen appeared again. The loader version is: Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132 - Chameleon v2.0-RC4 r I tried to boot with -v flag and saw the loader loading all the kinds of kext files. But at the end of loading the kexts, it printed the following lines: No DSDT found, using 0 as uid value. nVidia Unknown 512MB NVa8 [10de:0a68] :: PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0) Loaded HFS+ file: [Extra/smbios.plist] 1650 bytes from 4255560. Patched DMI Table. No DSDT replacement found. Leaving ACPI data as is Starting Darwin x86 then the screen went black and the laptop restarted and back to the Chameleon loader screen again. I wonder if I am missing some kexts? I'd appreciate any suggestion. Attached is the screenshot of the last page of the log.
