    [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

From my experience, the round headed Dongle is not as reliable as the square headed one. http://www.meritline.com/mini-type-wireles...---p-27752.aspx I have 4 round headed and they don't work when I leave them plugged in after restart. Square head one do. Just a minor off topic comment.

    [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

Thanks guys for clearing that up. Turn out I missed the apple.Boot.plist file (not in the pack). Anyhow, I got through the original KP, but stucked at the gray background with mouse at the installer. I think it could be the dsdt table. I will try to generate my specific dsdt table and try it again tonight. But thanks for getting me back to the right track.

Did not know that I need nullcpupowermanagement kext. Can you show me where to get it? EDIT: nevermind, I used just three kexts as described in prasys guide, but still bump into a grey background with spinning cursor (boot into the SL DVD). Tried install SL from Leopard, but still no luck. I think i'd wait for someone to make a better streamline + I have more free time to try SL out. Really want to get it now though

    [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

I've been trying to boot off the Snow Leopard USB drive but no luck. I always get hang up at the very beginning screen (some problem with AppleAHCI kext, then the dump "time up in nanoseconds") I'm using kext from DB1 revised pack. I installed chameleon without any extra, corrected the UUID, tried with and without dsdt.aml/smbios.plist, change the HDD from IDE to AHCI, pretty much any other ways (even booting with only two kexts per post 526 suggestion). As I read through the guide, I don't see any part mentions building mkext for the SLboot (to boot off the installer first). I assume it's not needed, but I tried with it too (using the mkext tool from pcwiz). Any help guys? I prefer to follow one guide only (DB1 seems to have lots of success). Thank!

If your network adapter is gone, try to copy the network adapter kext (IONetworkingFamily.kext) from S/L/E to /E/E folder (assuming you're doing retail installation and made a back-up of this file). If that doesn't work, do the opposite (you'd want to have the latest working driver) I haven't pull the trigger yet, if it's aint broke....
  7. Hey Absolutelynot, Do you mind upload the DSDT.aml and all the required kexts in Extra folder? I'm planning to preinstall a hdd for my uncle machine and I'd rather not go through the trouble of telling him to run the scripts. Thanks. Best.

found the culprit. I was using the old IONetworkingFamily in EFI Extra folder. Updated to the new one and everything is smooth again.

    [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

Just want to check, does anyone have problem enabling both wifi card (PCI) and ethernet at the same time? I'm using EFI method on vanilla (a few page back). If I boot normally, ethernet works but not wifi. If I boot with flag -f, wifi works, but not ethernet. Any idea why? The card is Asus WL-138g V2, supposedly working OOB (it does, when I boot with flag -f). Thanks guys.
  10. I have P5K-VM board with Marvell Yukon 88E8056 LAN. It's been working great on my Retail install for over a year. I use munky EFI method with a little boot.plist ethernet string to get time machine to work. Anyway, I just bought Asus WL-138g V2 and it works just fine if I boot with flag -f, but then... the LAN won't work. I can't activate it. If I boot normally, then the Wifi won't work. Is there a way to get both of them working at the same time, so I can enable/disable them at will? I'm not sure if the boot string causing the problem. But help me. Thanks. edit: nevermind, turn out my IONetworkingFamily kext in extra does not match with the one in my System/L/E. Updated and it's fine.
  11. I see a lot of topics popping up here. So, I'm just curious, what did you guys decided to buy? Most of the replies I see in the threads pointed to MacBook (why?) or the HCL (to be honest, not many of them are up-to-date with fixes and issues, usually posted in the first week of successful installation, and using distros). So, what did you guys (the OP of those threads) decided to buy? ps. this is just another way to framing the question i guess, but i'm more interested in answers of the ones who did the research, not Captain Obvious' answers. Thanks all
  12. have a look at the new voodoo touchpad driver. It can work if you don't mind doing some research.

small clock for menubar or desktop

I was looking for more obvious clock (ie. always showing) Anyway, found this little apps. Quite neat! http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33388
  14. I'm trying to find a way to add a small but visible clock for my desktop showing another time zone. I couldn't find any widget small enough to not block any view (digital only) or some menubar item that let you show another time zone. So, I turn to the all knowing mac forum and ask for help
  15. I really got spoiled by the Mini 9 from Dell. But this is not a main laptop to lug around with. I'm also looking for some laptop that can sleep, bluetooth, wireless and strong enough for some main work. Let me know what you decide, ditchmagnet.
