  1. Hi All, I've looked around and can't find any such thing. Then I remembered how innovative this community is and decided to at least ask if anybody has attempted this sort of thing and where they got with it. Apple TV 2(3) looks great. Problem is, I own a 2011 Mac mini and don't have the budget to buy another device. My mini works great as a HTPC, but it would be so much nicer if Apple would sell a new Front Row'ish / Apple TV'ish app for intel Macs. Has anybody emulated Apple TV 2? I'd love nothing more than to turn my mini into a super powerful Apple TV. I know I can AirPlay with AirServer, but it would be so much nicer to be able to use the Apple remote that came with my mini (yes the remote came in the box with my mini when I bought it). Why a remote came with it, I'm not sure, since it came with Lion and in Lion there isn't even Front Row any more. Please don't suggest Plex or XBMC or Boxee. That's not what my question is about. Thanks for any input, Aes

Windows + VirtualBox = MAC OS

Thanks takwing, I will check this out. Looked over it quick and I think you may have it! Awesome, and thanks! I'll test more tomorrow and over weekend. Thanks, A

Windows + VirtualBox = MAC OS

Well, I've successfully installed to VB 3.2.10 r66523. It has quirks such as unable to show [About this Mac]. But it does successfully boot without a boot CD, can surf the web, and while I haven't tried much with it yet, it seems to run pretty well. But what about things like video card emulation? Sound? So far I can only use 1024x768 resolution, and no audio. Is there a way to fix these things? I know this is lame, for the most part, but I'm really looking for any post install stuff I can add now that I have the VM working. Thanks, A Edit: I should mention that I installed 10.6.3 and updated to 10.6.4, and I used the Nawcom ModCD to build.

Installing 10.6.3 Retail on VirtualBox OSE

I would also love to know about SL running on VitrualBox. I also got it running, but all the post installation stuff is where I get stuck too. Does VirtualBox even care what hardware you have? Doesn't it emulate? And if so, doesn't that mean that what works for you also works for me, regardless of what hardware we're using on our host computers?

    Totally Confused....

Can I ask here as well? I've used this thread as my launch point to install my new retail 10.6.3. I've used the directions and built the USB. Then try to install the OS to a 36GB Raptor drive (Western Digital 10k rpm). It looks to work great, the usb drive loads, I can see the Raptor drive, I can install to it and it goes through the motions wonderfully. But then when it comes time to reboot it stops on the mac screen telling me I have to restart my computer and to push and hold the power button until it shuts off, then hit it again... (duh). My system is a P5E, 4GB ram, Patriot 8GB usb pen drive, ATI Radeon 3870 video. I should note that I do have a successful install of 10.5.2 Leopard running on a separate HDD (but on same computer). So it is possible for me to reboot and fiddle more with the install drive. But it's been a whole lot of hours spent rebooting and trying so far. Any thoughts on what may be stopping my install? Oh. I did install MyHack to the usb boot drive, but could I have done something wrong with that maybe? I'm not overly clear on what to do with the patches, and when/where to apply then. Should those be installed before first bootup? Thanks for this by the way, this is a great way to learn and understand this stuff. I'm just at a road block! Aes

    ASUS P5E

I'm wondering if anyone has tried the ASUS P5E board? I've got a setup that I've been slowly piecing together and I'm hoping it will work okay. Originally I was going to put Vista on it. But now I'm thinking of puting Leopard on instead. (I still haven't purchased the RAM; I'm building as money becomes available) The big ticket item on the board is PCIe2.0 x16 The processor is an Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz w/ 6MB Cache The video card on it is an eVGA 8800GT (nVidia) which supports the PCIe2.0 And it will have 8GB of OCZ 6400 (Vista Performance Platinum) -- still haven't bought this yet. Thanks for taking a look for me. I appreciate any feedback I can get. (crossing my fingers I can run Leopard on it stable) specs on the board are: Processor Support LGA775 socket for Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Quad / Core™2 Duo / Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 Processors Compatible with Intel® 05B/05A/06 processors Supports Intel® next generation 45nm Multi-Core CPU Front Side Bus 1600 / 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz Memory 4 x DIMM, max. 8GB, DDR2 1200 / 1066 / 800 / 667 MHz, non-ECC, un-buffered memory Dual channel memory architecture * DDR2 1200 is O.C. speed * Refer to www.asus.com or this user manual for the Memory QVL(Qualified Vendors Lidts). imaging a HDD

Hi, does anybody know if in OSX you can create an exact duplicate of your hard drive? I have a Leo install, and from that I made a retail install to a second hard drive. Now I'd like to move the retail copy to a different hard drive, one that is larger. I'm hoping there is a way to image the retail copy HDD, similar to ghost or something, and put it on a new HDD. This would also be great so I have a backup copy of my original retail setup. I'd love to hear some suggestions. I'm still new to OSX, so I'm terrified I'll break it and have to start all over again. Thanks, Aescleal

Carbon Copy Cloner looks very promising!
  9. Hi LTL, I took your advice and omit the natit portion of the post script. without that it seems to load up nice and fast. So after following your guide to the letter (and it's fantastic by the way), here's what I changed for my video. I hopped onto irc.osx86.hu and spoke with the guys there. They sent me a pkg for the 3870 card and I installed it to my new macintosh volume from within Kalyway. After a reboot into that volume, it worked solid. It's great to see more than just the standard 1024x768 res. Now i'm onto some investigation for my nic. It's strange that from within Kalyway my onboard nic works like a charm, but from the retail install it's not even detected. Maybe it's a Kalyway thing. My onboard card is the Marvell88E8056® PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET2. I'll keep looking for some usable drivers for it for a while. And if nothing turns up I'll go with a 8169 card like you suggested. If you know of any drivers that may work with my marvell, don't be shy! And thanks again for this guide. I'm learning boatloads about mac, and it's all thanks to all of you here at insanelymac. Aescleal
  10. Hi LTL, Thanks for this guide, it has opened a whole to world to my eyes! I don't have the same board as you, but it's still in intel chipset. I'm confused as to why every time I run your advanced setup, it seems to install fast and easy, except for the natit portion plus there is no LAN. When I uncommented the part to use natit (sudo cp -r kext/Natit.kext /Volumes/$DESTINATION/System/Library/Extensions/), then reboot to the new HDD (Macintosh), my monitor goes black. Perhaps it continues to load up successfully, but it's all black to me. I've reinstalled a few times and I notice that this only happens if I use the above command. Is there a way around this? My video card is an ASUS ATI 3870 512MB (see sig. for hardware). In Kalyway it shows up as 256 and only shows 1024x768 resolution. And also in Kalyway it sees my network adapter just fine. But after installing to the Macintosh volume via your guide, no LAN and base video. I'd love some suggestions if you don't mind. I'm still learning, but I'm at a roadblock. Aescleal

    ASUS P5E

I changed the video card from the 8800GT to an ATI 3870. I can get Kalyway up and running wonderful, but have troubles updating things. I'm still experimenting! All in all though, I love this board!
  12. Hi, this is a fascinating to me. I'm new and learning about Hackintosh, and currently have a working AMD Hackintosh thanks to these forums. But I want to run a Intel one, and running as close to vanilla as possible sounds amazing! But my intel board is ASUS. Is it likely that this setup will work on ASUS P5E? It seems everyone here is building this on a single Gigabyte board. But I can't go out and spend money over again since my ASUS board is very new. Is it possible to make this P5E board work like this? I'm worried the answer is no. I tried to build on an old Intel board but I'm afraid it's past it's due date. Thanks for any advise, Aescleal Oh, specs on my newest system are: Motherboard: - ASUS P5E - - Intel® X38 / ICH9R chipset Built in LAN: - Marvell88E8056® PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET2 Built in Audio: - SupremeFX II Audio card ADI® AD1988B 8-channel High Definition Processor: - Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8400 3.0 GHz - 45 nm, LGA775 - 6 MB L2 Cache - FSB 1333 MHz Hard Drives: - 34 GB Raptor 10k SATA, Seagate 250 GB SATAII Memory: - 8 GB OCZ 6400 Platinum Graphics: - ASUS ATI 3870 PS. I originally bought this board because it supports 2 x PCIe2.0 x16 (both @ x16 mode)

    OSX on IntelP4/AsusP4C800-Edlx

I am interested in this also, since I have a P4C800-E. The system specs are: Mainboard: P4C800-E Memory: 2x512mb DDR Processor: P4 - 3.0C Video: eVGA 6 Series card - AGP HDD: 2x34gb Maxtor Raptors The processor is SSE2 Will it be possible to run Leopard on this hardware? EDIT: I read the Wiki for 10.5.0 and it would seem all my hardware should work. I'll test this weekend and reply with my results.

    ASUS P5E

Oh that is fantastic news. I can't wait to set it up! (on a side note) Do you find that 10.5 is stable? I tend to almost never restart or shutdown my computers. On a Windows PC, I notice that XP/Vista will tend to break down after a few weeks and need to be restarted. Does OSX(86) suffer from this also? Regardless of your answer, I'm excited to try this out. But I'd love your feedback. Thanks, Aescleal

    Leopard Perfect Install

Hi Onetrack! Thanks for the instructions. I'm going to follow them for sure! I have a 10.5.1 build running on a AMD box, but it's crashed on me once already after an uptime of less than 2 days. And at first it would use my Fusion webcam, but now seems to think it's in use all the time!!! (a whole other issue I guess) I want to try out your setup, but here's the thing; I'm pretty good with systems, and I'm not overly new to torrents and searches. But there are so many Kalyway and Brazilmac torrents out there, how am I supposed to know what ones to get? It's exhausting downloading 4+ GB iso's only to find out that you got the wrong one again. Can anyone at least help me with that much? Thanks ((maybe I'm just not reading close enough, but I did read the OP like 20 times now))
  16. Okay, I got it... I was stupid and missed some steps. Now it's working great. I can't find much wrong with it besides it still requires the DVD to boot up. Is there a way to fix that? Oh, and many thanks. This is a great way to testdrive OSX before dishing out the dough for the real deal.
  17. Hi, I get the same as this. It looks as though it's going to boot, but then the 0 with the / through it. my specs are: CPU: AMD A64 3700+ 2.21 GHz MB: Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI on board audio is Realtek AC '97 on board NVIDIA nForce network controller Mem: 2GB Kingston DDR HDD: Maxtor Raptor 10k 34GB I'm pretty new, so any help will do! edit: I should also note that it won't reboot after install at all unless the DVD is still in the drive.
