  1. OK, here is my list. Everything is working fine in 32bit kernel mode (initialized through arch=i386 kernel flag). cyblands-iMac:~ cybland$ uname -a Darwin cyblands-iMac.local 10.0.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0: Fri Jul 31 22:47:34 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1456.1.25~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 cyblands-iMac:~ cybland$ ls -lah /Extra/Extensions total 0 drwxr-xr-x 13 root wheel 442B Sep 5 21:14 . drwxr-xr-x 8 root admin 272B Sep 5 21:54 .. drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Apr 1 16:47 AHCIPortInjector.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Jul 20 22:46 AppleVIAATA.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Aug 25 17:52 EVOenabler.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Aug 16 21:42 IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Jun 27 01:50 NullCPUPowerManagement.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Jun 28 05:37 OpenHaltRestart.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Jun 28 08:59 PlatformUUID.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Jul 17 15:55 UUID.kext drwxr-xr-x@ 3 root wheel 102B Aug 22 11:33 fakesmc.kext Here are screenshots from Xbench. As far as I can see you don't have AHCIPortInjector.kext in your E/E.
  2. Latest kXAudioDriver-1.3b0 works in Snow Leopard in 32bit kernel mode (boot Snow with arch=i386 switch).
  3. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

@D-Nos: Try booting with -s and then edit your comAppleBoot.plist to remove nVidia efi string. After that you should be able to boot to OSX normally and install appropriate drivers to get CI/QE on your HD4850. @Rexxor12e: With your setup you should try drivers and methods for x2 cards (HD4870x2).There are couple of articles on Netkas' blog that might help you with this. Specifically this one and maybe this one. Given the fact that you have two HD4830 I'm not really sure if it might work. This is something that I would have tried if I had your setup. @zero1: A far as I have seen it has been confirmed to work on 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 OSX versions. I can't really remember if anyone reported success on 10.5.5 or lower. The best results are achieved by using retail OSX updated to 10.5.7 version.
  4. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Here is couple ideas for you. First, if you haven't already tried you could use two files that Netkas created and I have linked in my post here. Those files will install natit.kext that indentifies your card as a PCI card and also injects generic HD4850 bios into IOREG, and more importantly installs pached framebuffers. Second, you should try new universal injector that netkas created. This injector has ability to read your VGA cards BIOS and inject that into IOREG. Try it out and let us know what happened. Also you should check netkas blog on netkas.org to keep updated on lots of things OSX related. I'm glad it worked for you. Credit goes to netkas for those files as I have only provided links.
  5. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Which version of OSX do you have? If it's 10.5.7 than you should try with files I have linked here in my post.
  6. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

@zillch: You asked for a card that has two DVI ports and works with 10.5.7 and that's why I gave you info how you can do it if you choose to purchase same card as mine. As for multiport cards I know that some people managed to get VGA monitor working by doing the following: 1. connect HDMI to DVI adapter to HDMI port and than connect DVI to VGA adapter to that. You will have two adapters connected to your HDMI port (HDMI>DVI + DVI>VGA). DO NOT CONNECT ANYTHING ELSE. 2. connect another DVI to VGA adapter to your DVI port and connect your VGA monitor to this adapter. DP and VGA port should remain empty. Some people reported success with this setup on some HD4870 multiport cards. They used Motmot as framebuffer. Try it out and let us know what happened. Unfortunately no. As far as I know none have managed to get dual screen on HD4850 using a VGA monitor. Thanks goes to Netkas as he created those files and placed links at irc://irc.osx86.hu in #radeonhd channel.
  7. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

@zillch - I have that kind of setup. As you can see in my signature, VGA is ASUS EAH4850 (ATi HD4850) with two DVI ports. Working CI/QE/Resolution change on Samsung SyncMaster 920NW VGA monitor in 10.5.7. Just use pached Motmot and Natit for Motmot and connect your VGA monitor through DVI to VGA adapter. You can use either DVI ports, at least with this ASUS card. As you can see in my signature everything is done in retail OSX, vanilla setup.

I believe that drumthrasher meant sued by Apple for copyright infringement since they are providing means for installing OSX on non-Apple hardware and doing it for commercial benefit. Currently there is a case filed by Apple against a Psystar (computer manufacturer) for selling PC with OSX preloaded. There is a sleight difference in what EFi-X is doing since they are not essentially installing OSX on non-Apple hardware but only providing means to do so. It could be argued that guns manufacturers are not doing any crime but are providing (selling) means (guns) for someone to commit a crime.

All VRAM is allocated to the connected monitor and only one card is shown (with two display ports, one connected and one not). Checked with System Profiler and verified with OpenGL Extensions Viewer.
  10. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

You cannot use two HD4850 (or any two same graphic cards) in OSX as far as I know. When OSX initializes drivers it looks for Vendor ID and Device ID and matches it to ones listed in plist.info of a certain driver (kext - kernel extension) file. If you have two essentialy same cards (have same VenID and DevID) it will try to initialize both cards and fail. Vendor ID and Device ID are not tied to card manufacturer but to chip manufacturer (in case of graphic cards a GPU chip) therefore HD4850 cards will have VenID: 0x1002 (ATi) and DevID: 0x9442 (HD4850) no matter which company made your graphic cards. There is no difference wether cards are linked via Crossfire bridge or not, to OSX they are still two separate but identical cards. Only thing that you could try is to disconnect a power cord from one of the cards, effectively making your system a single card, before booting OSX.

I don't believe that audio through HDMI will be available since we are using "modified" Apple drivers which are originaly written for new iMac (HD4850) and MacPro (HD4870) and, as far as I know, audio through HDMI doesn't work (is not an option) on iMacs and MacPros.
  12. HD4870 on install...

Try setting your SATA drive as primary boot drive to see if you can get to Darwin or boot into OSX. Also check operating mode of your SATA controller. As far as I know newer Leo versions only work if SATA controller is set to AHCI mode. I'm not sure if that is a case with 10.5.2 (if you have installed Kalyway as you have planed). Check your BIOS settings for SATA controller and try changing it to AHCI. One warning: To be able to use your SATA drive in Vista/7 in AHCI mode you have to install appropriate AHCI controller driver. Therefore, before changing SATA controller to AHCI first boot into Vista and/or 7 and install AHCI driver and reboot after driver installation, with controller set to AHCI, to verify Windows Vista/7 booting. If everything goes OK try to boot into OSX.
  13. HD4870 on install...

You should be able to install Kalyway without choosing any graphical drivers during install and then (after updating to 10.5.6) install Netkas drivers for HD4870. I have been able to do it with my HD4850 installing iDeneb and also Retail (both 10.5.6) but haven't tried with Kalyway simply 'cause I didn't wanted to wait for updates to download. As far as I recall Netkas drivers will not work on less than 10.5.5. EDIT: When there are no drivers loaded for graphic card, OSX uses the card in VESA mode, both for installation or operation. Therefore, graphic card should create no problems during installation. You would simply have no graphic acceleration.
  14. What about the new ATI HD4850 ?

If you are using VGA monitor than it is detected as Standard VGA Display and only 4:3 resolutions are available. You have to force 16:10 resolutions via SwitchResX application.
