  1. Audio Gigabyte EP45 UD3P

depending on how you installed SL and which kexts you used to activate the realtek chipset, could be a bunch of things, none that i could prol narrow down for you in reality tho . only a few suggestions, use the black output, i believe it's the rear speaker one in windows. thats set as built in output under sl 10.6.1 for me instead of using the green(built in speaker), and works well so far, logic 9 has given me no problems, although i don't use the program heavily, just mess around with it, optical works as well just as it should. same mobo. using legacyhda.kext in my extra/extensions folder never was able to load your video unfortunately, allowed scripts for hte page and it still wouldn't load, so sorry can't be anymore specific to your prol.
  2. Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P with ATi Graphics?

hmmm many steps originally, tried evoenabler, got it working somewhat, according to my sig there it seems i've used something called 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg, i should prol check on that cause i don't quite remember where or what it was, nor do i seem to have the file :0, but i know most ppl have had success just using chameleon2 rc2-3, along with pc efi using graphics enabler=y in the boot.plist. and no i don't plan on up'g to 10.6.2 for a few weeks yet, things working too well to risk on that but supposedly 10.6.2 gives the 4870 a bit of a performance boost with open_CL so we'll see. just trying to get SL started on a friends UD3P atm via lifehacker's guide, but using an old external ide drive instead of a usb stick and having no luck atm.
  3. Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P with ATi Graphics?

i run the same hardware with a 4870 in 10.6.1, works quite well except for sleep, tho i'm sure that could be fixed if you were motivated enough to check. i'm sure there are a few more compatible video cards out there tho, but depends on what you need from the card to begin with to properly answer the question. ie. what resolution is your monitor, do you game/video edit, or watch hd movies.
  4. HD4870 Fan Speed

only way i'm aware of, and currently using, is to mod the video bios of the card so the fan ramps up much sooner than the stock bios is set for. used RBE in windows to mod my HIS 4870 512mb bios, and seems to work fine, but sometimes the fan does seem to hunt a bit when playing hi bitrate movies thru xbmc on secondary monitor. the card's exhaust does keep to a normal temperature and the back of the car no longer burns my fingers. RBE here: RBE sticky page
  5. thanks alot for this guide VooD! used with a combination of this and iatkos5i as the main system with your filepack. great stuff. also running pc efi9 but i get bad sleep image/sleep image has garbage message so no deep sleep for me yet. maybe when i get my retail copy next month i'll give it another shot. anyway thanks again!
  6. Will you still buy the real deal?

should add hackbook vs macbook to the poll, as i wouldn't buy a mac for myself, but if i were in the market for another laptop, i'd be looking at macbooks, at least once they figure out the vid card stuff in 2nd revision.
  7. Hackingtosh vs iMac, costing

arguing to death on semantics. the apple fanatics are no different than the MS fanatics, just the slogans. back on topic tho, i find the new pricing and hardware with the imacs, and even mac pros very reasonable when compared to other pc's from retail companies such as dell, hp, etc. the only issue i take with the current imacs, is the built in screen which is placed in a pile of forced obsoletion once the other imac hardware is considered too slow, yet the monitor will still be very usefull and function just as well if it could be used with the newest hardware. you can't compare pricing a custom built computer to a fully built and supported mac. they're not the same demographic any more than custom built pc's and dell/hp/acer pc's are. most professionals don't have time to monkey around with hardware, and most regular computer users don't have the ambition towards technology or self learning needed to mess around by building their own computers of any kind. imacs/mac minis suit them just as well as any pre built windows computer. the only thing i truly take issue with apple is with their megalomania, and over hyped marketing junk, which could be said of any corporation that has a following like apple's so it's not a very valid direction to place anger either. i think it's more a broader distaste for those practices in society than it is for apple that drives most people to hate apple, or even microsoft, unfortunately apple is just a simple scapegoat for those who can't see the forest for the trees.</rant>
  8. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

just use the arrangement tab under the display system setting and line them up manually. i haven't had any issue with alignment once they appear to be set properly that way.
  9. need driver for HD4870 Sorry if i missed it somewhere

i'm pretty sure there are some people who just get a kick out of having others do footwork for them. either that or finding these answers are a very simple type of idiot test, and many people are failing miserably.
  10. What about the new ATI HD4850 ?

ya was aimed at your comment ^^ just no quotes i guess, figured it was fairly obvious figured i'd just ramble a bit on the subject as there's no real definitive answer to the subject, and netkas is most likely a pretty busy guy these days. the 4870x2 is dependent on crossfire profiles just like 2 individual 4870's in crossfire, it's just that the information does not need to travel between two individual pci-x slots and no crossfire ribbon connector. like you said tho it does not need a crossfire board for it to work properly. I wonder if has anyone tried adding their 4870x2 dev id's to the latest natit.kext, as it's sure boosted the functionality of my 4870.
  11. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

thanks alot netkas, installed new natit.kext, repaired permission, rebooted and... profit! thanks for adding more awesome to my hackintosh. HIS 4870 512mb, res change now works, dual displays now work. currently hooked up 1st dvi to main monitor with dvi cable no adapter, 2nd dvi port hooked up to hdtv via dvi/hdmi adapter. res change working on both monitors, gaming works fine, just finished porting cod2 from my pc cd's. works great, 100 avg FPS @ 1920x1200. display sleep works, but seems to reset dock position to hdtv upon wake. expose also works much slower than without new natit.kext, but deffinitely worth trading slightly slow expose for dual display. great work. thanks again.
  12. What about the new ATI HD4850 ?

it's all speculation, but you'd think apple would have left room to add crossfire support in the future. the new mac pro is nehalem based, so one could assume it's using the x58 chipset in some form or another, which supports both sli and crossfire. Unfortunately just as in the windows environment crossfire/sli is very dependent on drivers and driver profiles for each individual game/program it's going to be usefull with. with all of apples talk of openCL it only seems to make sense that they would eventually support multi gpu processing.
  13. What about the new ATI HD4850 ?

i just finished installing or initializing my HIS 4870 512mb with the 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg under 10.5.6 from iatkos 5i. first removed the current card an 8800gs 384mb, didn't do anything else like removing the old nvidia kexts, just turned off comp physically removed the 8800, booted up with dvi-d-sub adapter on 4870, was in vesa mode at that point, installed radeon hd 48x0 package, rebooted. on first reboot got black screen, so i swapped out the dvi-d-sub adapter for a dvi cable with no adapter on the #1 dvi output, rebooted and voila! everything is working fine so far, though i will either buy an aftermarket fan/heatsink for the 4870 after warranty is up, or mod the bios for a higher fan speed as the exhaust is quite warm for my tastes. just like to say thanks to the productive community in this thread, and netkas in particular. thanks!!11one1!
  14. What about the new ATI HD4850 ?

i was wondering the same thing, i was going to download snow leopard and try for myself, you know to do some footwork on my own, get some answers for myself instead of being spoonfed instructions every step of the way. Unfortunately for me i'm astoundingly retarted and i can't even manage to go to the bathroom without someone giving me explicit and direct instructions every step of the way. I know I know, I could try going by myself by i'm afraid i'll go in the laundry basket by mistake or get something caught in my zipper.
