1. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

I don't have access to the laptop at the moment (I leave it at work in another city), but I've only used kexts linked in this thread. I believe, from re-reading my earlier posts, that I merely used VoodooHDA and VoodooBattery from the XPS zip, plus FakeSMC.kext and VoodooPS2Controller.kext from the initial install instructions.
2. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

Boot times are already ~10 seconds so I think I'll leave it for now Also, the app store seems to work fine (although I've only downloaded previously purchased apps, haven't tested installing/buying new apps)
3. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

Thanks Fusion and Turaiel! I've replaced the boot file. On subsequent boots it reported 2 GHz anyway, but I'm sure this won't hurt. I don't currently have an org.chameleon.Boot.plist and I don't ever use Ethernet, so I'm tempted to leave it for now. The DSDT editing looks incredibly complex compared to what I've done so far - is that indeed the case? If I keep my system as it is, should I have any issues?
4. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

I'm not sure Turaiel - just finally booted into graphics successfully after 20x tries I've copied over FakeSMC.kext and VoodooPS2Controller.kext (which are the only ones on my USB at the moment). I'll try rebooting now and see if I can actually get into OS X Edit 1: Success! Wi-Fi works out of the box, which is nice, and the graphics look fine. CPU is only being read as being 1.1 GHz but I assume that isn't an issue? Haven't used any XPS kexts as of yet - any suggestions? Edit 2: OK, installed kexts for audio (VoodooHDA) and battery (VoodooBattery); all else seems to be working fine out of the box. Rad.
5. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

I cannot copy any kexts onto the installation, as I get a black screen upon booting the USB (which worked fine to install, but now appears to not work somehow). Currently, I have only SMBios.plist and DSDT.aml in Extra/ and FakeSMC.kext and VoodooPS2Controller.kext in System / Library / Extensions / Edit: Any recommendations for anything else that should be on that USB? And/or which kexts to use from the XPS .zip? Edit 2: I've got 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 2.5 GB RAM, Nvidia 8600M GT and a Crucial M4 SSD, if that matters
6. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

So I followed the vanilla directions to install OS X, and now I'm at the stage where I need to copy the kexts by booting into the installation USB once again (step 3.1 on the vanilla guide).. but now, for some reason, after the initial flurry of text, I just get a black screen that lasts for at least half an hour (as long as I've cared to wait thus far). Any ideas on how I can get past this? I'm really confused as to why booting from the USB would work fine to install, but then not work the next time I came to boot from it... Edit: I've tried with -v -f half a dozen times and -v only once, and nothing seems to work... Get no particularly alarming messages during boot, then just black screen + fans on forever. The only thing that's changed (I think) is that the harddrive being mounted is now Mac formatted instead of the Windows malarky that was on there before... and surely that shouldn't be an issue?
7. Dell Inspiron 1520- Installing Mavericks on ?

Hey guys! I'm just about to embark on installing Mac OS X on my Inspiron 1520, so I'm heartened to see reports of success with Mavericks. Do I need to install an earlier version of OS X first, or can I install Mavericks directly? Furthermore, which files (out of the ones posted) should I be using?
8. Lion installation via USB stick using Chameleon

Will this work on a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with E8400 Core2Duo processor and Nvidia 8600M GT? It all looks like it should work except for the autopatcher, which has no option for laptops. Thanks
9. Hey there! I had my Inspiron 1520 laptop working fine under 10.6.8, and I'd like to get Lion working. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0 GHz/4MB L2 Cache) Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB Any suggestions on which install method to use, and is there a known good DSDT file? Thanks, Will
10. Inspiron 1520 won't boot after 10.6.8 upgrade

Thanks for your help
11. Installed from iatkos (most recent version) six-eight months ago without issue on my Dell Inspiron 1520 (Nvidia 9600GT M), installing only a few kexts and changing the wireless card. Sleep and on-board LAN didn't work, but everything else did and was wonderful. Fast forward to today; saw that the 10.6.8 update was out and foolishly tried to install it (via System Update) without doing proper backups. Update proceeded OK, restarted computer. After quite a while of booting, eventually the spinner froze. Starting with -x doesn't work. Starting with -v shows that the boot seems to fail at random points: Once after loading the FireWire, just now after a message from launchctl: "Please convert the following to launchd: /etc/mach_init.d/chum.plist" Any ideas on how I can recover my system, or is it inoperable? Edit: It seems to fail most times after the "FireWire (OHCI) VendorID 1180 ID 832 built-in now active, GUID 434fc00034d601a1; max speed s400." line. Just did so three times in a row. Edit 2: I disabled the FireWire and onboard LAN in the BIOS. Now trying to boot, at the moment is stuck at "Waiting for DSMOS..."
12. Inspiron 1520 w/ 8600M GT: How to get 3D working?

I fixed it! I installed OS X again, but this time didn't install any of the graphics kexts on the CD. Then I used #####'s default settings (no graphics options), restarted and now I have 3D graphics (as confirmed in Torchlight). Yay!
13. Guide for Nvidia 8600m on 1064 - all outputs working

I too would like to know a little bit more about this -- I'm struggling with getting my 8600M GT working on my Inspiron 1520, and I'd like to see this rewritten to be a little bit more clear for newbs like me
14. questions about the INTEL 3945ABG and more.

The Dell 1390 is a good replacement: http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=dell+1390
15. Hi there. I'm running Snow Leopard on my old(ish) Inspiron 1520, which is equipped with a 2.2GHz Centrino Duo, 2.5GBs of RAM, and a Nvidia 8600M GT graphics card. I am running Chameleon RC5 boot loader, and various Voodoo kexts for keyboard, battery, and sound. The 8600M GT, although showing up fine in 'About My Mac', doesn't seem to be enabling 3D graphics -- I've tried optimistically launching StarCraft II but no dice I've used ##### to install NVEnabler, but it doesn't appear to have done anything. Any ideas? I'm happy to provide system logs or anything else if they would be helpful
