    Mac OS X Server 1.2 on an iMac G3?

    Well, I have 5.6, 1.2 (retail package) and cannot get it to boot, even after following similar steps as you on my G4 Gigabit. From what I understand I need 1.2v3 for my system and have heard rumblings about 1.2 not actually being bootable to begin with. Any help would be great as well.
  2. Hi, I've been trying to hunt down Mac OS X Server 1.2v3 (Rhapsody 5.6/Medusa1E3) for my perfect Power Mac G4 Gigabit system. I've been looking for a couple months now and have pieced together a perfect system from 3 broken craigslist systems. I cannot find a used (or new) retail copy anywhere. eBay, craigslist, obscure software sites, collectors sites, etc. Can anyone lend me a hand? Thanks! P.S. - I do have the original 1.2 retail media (given to me by a school I setup up with 10.3 server a ways back) however cannot get it to boot on my G4 Gigabit no matter what I try. I believe the 1.2v3 is required for my model.
  3. Since I can't PM you, I'd like to let you know that I'm willing to take responsibility for the project thread if you would like. I can test and compile hotfixes and probably share the task with a few others who are interested. Please PM me.

  4. Proto - did you ever find the Core Solo CPU ID? Chameleon 2.0 RC4 broke the Voodoo Kernel's built in CPU injection on my P4 hack.

  5. Folks interested (and that have been posting regularly so we know you are serious) please let me know if you will be able to make contributions to the Google Code project and I will add you to it. Life has gotten in the way for the time being but I would love to see this progress as much as everyone else. DSDTSE has a useful feature for just that... You may find small very subtle to nearly complete patches being changed in the modded F04 DSDT. The MacBook 6,1 DSDT was used to borrow code from where it was believed we could gain something from it. I have tried to get you the DMI dump many times however booting with freedos yielded nothing but a lockup on execution. I am game for creating a new DOS 6.22 USB stick emulating a floppy (downloaded from my TechNet subscription) to get this for you... I'll keep you posted on how that works out.
  6. Those binaries are compiled for x64 procs only. x64 is not an OpenCL requirement however since those binaries are run from console am not surprised that they would be compiled for only one architecture. On a side note, can anyone else take over this project release management? I will upload the archives that I use to create the packages and boot media from and add folks seriously interested in taking this on to the Google Code project. I also use the same build methods for my Intel D975XBX2 installation and will continue working within the community however I just can't allocate the time to the HP Mini 311 right now.
  7. The recovery flash method (documented by the project) is very picky about the actual USB memory device, FS and partition table type. Out of the 7 USB sticks I tried only 3 worked however some may have all their sticks work just fine. These methods are much different (one is primarily for emergency recovery use and the other is for a standard update) but give the exact same results. Good post.
  8. Here is a big hint (these are your two MiniPCIe slots in our DSDT): Device (XVR5) { Name (_ADR, 0x00150000) Name (_PRW, Package (0x02) { 0x11, 0x05 }) Device (XVS5) { Name (_ADR, Zero) Name (_SUN, One) Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x02) { "built-in", Buffer (One) { 0x00 } }, Local0) DTGP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3, RefOf (Local0)) Return (Local0) } } } Device (XVR6) { Name (_ADR, 0x00160000) Name (_PRW, Package (0x02) { 0x11, 0x05 }) Device (XVS6) { Name (_ADR, Zero) Name (_SUN, One) Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x02) { "built-in", Buffer (One) { 0x00 } }, Local0) DTGP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3, RefOf (Local0)) Return (Local0) } } } Replace the following code (and nothing else): Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x02) { "built-in", Buffer (One) { 0x00 } }, Local0) DTGP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3, RefOf (Local0)) Return (Local0) }

    HP Mini 311 - Support Questions/Requests

    Yeah, I like to "update" my avatar once and a while... Sporting a bit more fur lately to keep warm in this cold northern US climate. The boot CD is now booting the kernel from the install CD and is no longer using pre-built extension caches (those could get quite hefty). With the latest developments from meklort we no longer need to distribute a kernel in the install install package either. This along with removing a few other pieces also brought us into licensing compliance and I believe a more consistent/elegant/reliable install process. To partition the drive you can use the "Disk Utility" to shrink your Mac OS partition and create a Windows partition.
  10. You just need to use "Disk Utility" instead of the fancy but very basic "Boot Camp Assistant". These changes were made to ensure the distribution is completely legit. Whether installing Mac OS X is or is not is not the question, but all the files distributed in the image are legit, thus a Google Code project could be opened. The modified HP firmware is stored on a server elsewhere separate from the project since it is not licensed or open source code. So while it is recommended to be used with the project and a link is provided, it is in no way distributed with the project. I've got to be honest here... You should browse around a bit and learn about the DSDT from the many topics coverage it since it can be a bit of a learning curve. You might also need to massage the values depending on the actual card you have.

    Have a look :-) You could have just opened it since you are already suspecting that is where it is based on my comment about the release media... It's only 5MB (2.2 zipped)... Would only take a second to open... Not being smart here... Just logical... Hope that helps.. Yes it is in there and I spent a great deal of time on this release...

    Technically it should work (with the appropriate values of course) for any card supported by the driver since the actual info the driver is filtering by is the sub vendor and sub id after the ven id and dev id. In fact Apple is using the 4353 in its current Mac Book Pro line... I have a working solution right now so I haven't put any more effort in on that front.

    I don't have a copy available right now but I'm sure one of the folks could provide that... If not then I could upload one tomorrow. I'm intrigued and have tried it in the past for the 4353 (supervisa and I back in October...) with little luck then. But I really hope folks do give it a go. To anyone willing to work with it: Use DSDTSE to edit the DSDT.aml installed in the EFI partition. I am using a Dell rebranded to Apple 432b right now but may give it a go again. Good post.

    If the thread search function worked it would be easy however it doesn't. Removing the -v switch from the com.apple.boot.plist file within the EFI partition would get you the Apple logo on boot but prevent you from waking from sleep and cause a bit more corruption you system failed to wake. Upon a kernel panic in Mac OS it's journaled file system rarely protects your data and you will see messages like "removed 12 files and 3 directories" on boot each time it KPs on resume. Its up to you, you aren't the first or last that may try it, feel like your system is now corrupt and end up reinstalling. No donations here... Its best to keep a safe distance around these places.
  15. What part of the rules in the first post did you not understand? RULE: 1.) ALL HELP and support requests belong in the SUPPORT thread 2.) We repeat ALL HELP and support requests belong in the SUPPORT thread Was it rule number 1? Or was it rule number 2? Sincerely, The thread police
