[GUIDE] Installing macOS on ASUS K501L

I'm having a strange problem with 10.12.4 that the laptop can enter sleep mode, but it will show black screen and freeze after wake. However if I change the ig-platform-id to other values (like 0x16160002), then it stills show black screen after wake but the OS is working (I can press Ctrl + Power then R to perform rebooting). This problem doesn't happen on 10.12.3 and earlier, so I'm asking RehabMan for the solution. Does anyone have this problem? If yes, please tell me. If not, then send me your configuration, including: - EFI/CLOVER folder - IOReg file (use IORegistryExplorer 2.1) - List of kexts installed in /Library/Extensions Thank you very much for your help and patience.

[GUIDE] Installing macOS on ASUS K501L

During the previous weeks I was busy with tests and projects at my university, so I did not have time to work with the next release. Now the semester has finished, I will resume my work ASAP. Btw, what is the problem with backlight in macOS 10.12.4? Can someone give me some info about this?

Are you using macOS Sierra? If so, then install ApplePS2SmartTouchpad v4.7 beta 5. Yes, I will note about enabling CSM in my updated guide, thank you.

[GUIDE] Installing macOS on ASUS K501L

I'm going to update the installation pack to version 2.0, together with guide and videos. There are many things to be edited, so it may take a week to complete. Notable changes: - Hotpatch will become the official method of ACPI patching. - macOS Sierra will be officially supported. - K501LB model will receive the same support as K501LX. Due to these changes, the GitHub repository will be renamed to mac-os-k501l. The repository, together with wiki is being updated. Also the version naming scheme is modified: As this version contains breaking changes, so I named it v2.0 instead of v1.1. v1.0.1 will be changed to v1.1, and from now on every version will have the format of major.minor. Cheers, Le Cao Nguyen

I got banned on tonyMacx86, what do I do?

Last year on 28 January, I got banned at TM after posting the first version of my Guide to installing El Capitan on ASUS K501LX with the reason of promoting piracy software. At that time, I was surprised and got frustrated because I didn't mention about using any pirated software in my guide. So I suspected that the reason I got banned was because in my guide, I included a reference to a guide to create USB installer using OS X on VMWare (really Tony?). After a few days, I tried to login at TM and found out that my account was removed. So I recreated it and since then, I swore to myself that I will never post any guide at TM again.

Not some, but quite a bunch of modifications in kext & config.plist, since k501ux uses Skylake CPU, not Broadwell. So I will say it is incompatible with this guide, but you can use it as a reference source.

Could you send me your codec dump? (Please read here to know how to get codec dump from Linux). Btw I haven't installed & tested Sierra on my own laptop yet so there could be updates to AppleHDA that broke the dummy kext.

[GUIDE] Installing macOS on ASUS K501L

Look at the first post. I already stated that any model other than K501LX/K501LB should use this guide as reference only. - About the first issue, try to enable CSM in BIOS settings. - I don't recommend upgrade to Sierra yet, as some of the hardware/functions are not working well on Sierra. You are responsible for your own actions. - For the last issue, you can try to change the scrolling speed, untick and retick two finger scrolling and see if it worked.

I use mac os for coding only, and most of my works are on Windows. As the nvidia card doesn't work on mac os, heavy softwares can't be used.

No, because your hardware platform is Skylake, not Broadwell. However you can use my guide as a reference source.

[GUIDE] Installing macOS on ASUS K501L

Yes, I'm still on El Capitan, cuz trackpad & keyboard doesn't work well on Sierra atm (driver hasn't been updated yet). So the Xor removal patch made the airplane led worked? If I have free time, I will test it and integrate it to the hotpatch.

Currently there's no solution, and I don't mind to fix it because it's just a minor issue. You can dig into DSDT to know how to control airplane LED and link it with Wifi & Bluetooth state, then make a patch for it.

[GUIDE] Installing macOS on ASUS K501L

I have installed official Sierra yesterday and used the latest ApplePS2SmartTouchpad.kext, but some of the hotkeys (volume and brightness keys) and multitouch gestures (3 to 5 fingers) are still not working. That's why I'm not eager to update my guide for Sierra yet. Would you mind to test keyboard and trackpad again?

Have you upgraded to official Sierra? If so, did everything work? Especially trackpad and keyboard, because they did not work well on my laptop with Sierra Public Beta 1.

You did not include your hardware specs in your signature, so I will not answer any of your questions. Besides that, if I'm not wrong, K501LX does not equip with nVidia GTX 960M.
