Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

Alright. So I'm now on High Sierra clean install using the bundle of 6 September. I've had 2 freezes so far, when the whole machine stopped. Interestingly with the last 2 or 3 bundles under Mojave I occasionally got scrambled LCD screen on boot and sometimes KPs. I thought that's due to Mojave but I got the same scrambled screen issue when tried o reboot into the Installer a few times. 3rd try went well and I could complete the install.

Just FYI - I'm installing High Sierra back with the latest bundle (6 September) and later on will upgrade to Mojave when the final version comes out.

I use your package @tluck, without changing anything. Not sure which file is responsible for mapping the hotkeys but I definitely have not changed it. I checked the following file in EFI/..../VoodooPS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/VoodooPS2Keyboard/Contents/Info.plist for mapping , but those strings you've copied above are missing. Regarding the brightness, I don't have the slider either under System preferences/Displays so that is not an issue related to hotkey mapping for sure.

    Hi @tluck I've removed the kexts you've recommended from /L/E, reboot and then got a KP. But after the 2nd reboot things are working ok. Except the backlight, I've lost my hotkeys and backlight slider again. Also I cannot disable the touchpad using Fn + F8. Why is that? I checked the Clover bootlog with bdmesg and at the end found the following lines about injection. It seems the AppleBacklightInjector.kext was found by Clover. 3:759 0:013 Preparing kexts injection for arch=x86_64 from EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other 3:759 0:000 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\USBInjectAll.kext (v.0.6.5) 4:388 0:628 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\VoodooPS2Controller.kext (v.1.8.34) 4:409 0:021 |-- PlugIn kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\VoodooPS2Controller.kext\Contents\PlugIns\VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext (v.1.8.34) 4:447 0:037 |-- PlugIn kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\VoodooPS2Controller.kext\Contents\PlugIns\VoodooPS2Mouse.kext (v.1.8.34) 4:465 0:018 |-- PlugIn kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\VoodooPS2Controller.kext\Contents\PlugIns\VoodooPS2Keyboard.kext (v.1.8.34) 4:514 0:048 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\Lilu.kext (v.1.2.7) 4:530 0:015 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext (v.1.0.0) 4:536 0:006 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\IntelMausiEthernet.kext (v.2.3.0d0) 4:551 0:015 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\FakeSMC.kext (v.1443) 4:580 0:028 |-- PlugIn kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\FakeSMC.kext\Contents\PlugIns\CPUSensors.kext (v.1443) 4:594 0:014 |-- PlugIn kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\FakeSMC.kext\Contents\PlugIns\ACPISensors.kext (v.1443) 4:620 0:025 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\EFICheckDisabler.kext (v.0.5) 4:635 0:014 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\BlueTooth_Injector_T420.kext (v.1.0.0) 4:639 0:004 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\AppleBacklightInjector.kext (v.0.9.2) 4:651 0:011 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\AppleALC.kext (v.1.3.1) 5:511 0:860 |-- PlugIn kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\AppleALC.kext\Contents\PlugIns\PinConfigs.kext (v.1.0.0) 6:052 0:541 Extra kext: EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other\ACPIBatteryManager.kext (v.1.81.4) 6:076 0:023 Preparing kexts injection for arch=x86_64 from EFI\CLOVER\kexts\10.14 Thank you.

Well, things are getting interesting. I was experimenting and renamed the ACPIBatteryManager.kext at /L/E. After reboot I don't see battery data so the kext is not loaded. I thought CLOVER should find it in the EFI folder...

    I'm sorry tluck, but I'm a bit confused and need more guidance. 1) I've already got a ton of kexts in /L/E Which ones should I delete? ACPIBatteryManager.kext ACPIPoller.kext ACS6x.kext ATTOCelerityFC8.kext ATTOExpressSASHBA2.kext ATTOExpressSASRAID2.kext AppleALC.kext AppleBacklightInjector.kext AppleIntelHD3000Graphics.kex AppleIntelHD3000GraphicsGA.p AppleIntelHD3000GraphicsGLDr AppleIntelHD3000GraphicsVADr AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext AppleIntelSNBVA.bundle ArcMSR.kext BlueTooth_Injector_T420.kext CalDigitHDProDrv.kext EFICheckDisabler.kext FakeSMC.kext HighPointIOP.kext HighPointRR.kext IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.k IntelMausiEthernet.kext Lilu.kext PromiseSTEX.kext SoftRAID.kext SophosFileProtection.kext SophosWebProtection.kext USBInjectAll.kext VoodooPS2Controller.kext 2) I copied all the files to EFI again but the hotkeys still doesn't work. cp -a ~/Downloads/Lenovo-T420-Clover-2018.08.26/EFI/ /Volumes/ESP/EFI update #1: I removed the Applebkclightinjctor.kext at /L/E and after reboot it's working so probably now CLOVER is injecting the right kext, that is in the EFI folder. What a mess... 3) I'm using the config.1600x900.2e3.plist already. Should I change anything or just dump the EDID values here? Thanks.

"dont inject EDID (comment EDID or AAPL00,no-connect)" Where do I do this? In the config.plist? Will my machine boot with a usable screen after I boot without EDID injection? By the way, with the latest package the brightness hotkeys stopped working and even in Settings I cannot change it. There is no slider.

I thought you were having he same issue I'm now on Mojave, using high sierra HD3000 kexts but this "black screen" issue was the same under high sierra. My memory speed is set to 1333 MHz in BIOS and they are indeed 1333 MHz modules. My LCD should be stock. How do I check the maker? My machine has been running fine since my last comment, meaning I had no freezes in the last 1 hour despite the machine was idling with LCD turned off a couple of times. Transmission is not running, that's key.

Left the machine to idle for 10 mins and the LCD did not come back from sleep The backlight turns on as always, but the screen remains black. Update: It seems the use of Transmission (the torrent client) is effecting my freezes in a bad way. When it is running, I get freezes very soon. Otherwise I get them after like 30 minutes. I do have files kept in seed and they are stored on my spinning HDD which is in optibay.

Thanks a lot tluck! Just to make sure I've done all the updates, here are the steps performed: 1. mounted the EFI folder 2. cp -a ~/Downloads/Lenovo-T420-Clover-2018.08.26/EFI/ /Volumes/ESP/EFI 3. ran the createAppleBacklightInjector.command 4. ran the _kext-install.command 5. copied the vendorIDs using command: sudo cp -a ~/Downloads/Lenovo-T420-Clover-2018.08.26/\:System\:Library\:Displays\:Contents\:Resources\:Overrides/DisplayVendorID-* /System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/ 6. replaced the config.plist with the one you've suggested - cd /Volumes/ESP/EFI/CLOVER - mv config.1600x900.2e3.plist config.plist 7. Reboot p.s. I've not yet installed the "heat-step stuff" to make sure nothing is interfering with the testing.

Mojave beta4 works so far using the July 20 bundle from tluck and the Sierra HD3000 kexts. I'm expecting to still have the usual HD3000 related freezes though. (What if I just simply replace my machine with a T430 that has HD4000? )

Thank you guys for still supporting this machine with updates. Even though my freezes has not gone with High Sierra, I'm not in the situation to be able to buy a real Mac so this topic is a true gem for me

Hey tluck! Could you give me a bit more details how to upgrade to the Mojave beta? My High Sierra installation is unstable anyway, so I don't risk anything with trying out the Mojave beta. I'm hoping the freezes will go away... Thanks.

Update: Still getting freezes. The only way prevent freezing is when I stop at the logon screen and don't login. So I now need to figure out the reason behind.
