  1. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

I've noticed a few pages back someone had problems with VoodooHDA.kext not loading/not having any sound. I recently had the same problem on a clean install. Chmod and chown didn't help. So what I did to solve the problem, was after a fresh install, boot the Install Disc up again (rather than booting straight into the new install) and copied the kext over in Terminal from my the flash drive I use for the bootloader. Here's how it looked for me: cp -R /Volumes/Boot/Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext /Volumes/"Macintosh HD"/System/Library/Extensions/ Boot is the location/name of my flash drive. "Macintosh HD" is the name of the hard drive with the install (kind of obvious), quoted because of the space. You can copy the kext from any location as long as its mounted and readable.

If you can't see it in Disk Utility Info then type the following into Terminal and look for the line that says "Volume UUID": diskutil info /Volumes/"Your Hard Drive Name"

That's strange, I have been using Transmission 1.75 (9230) in 64bit mode for over an hour now and had no problems. Here's the link to the download if you haven't tried this version. http://build.transmissionbt.com/job/trunk-mac/1601/

    I have no idea if you have found a solution but here is the EFI string that I use for my 9600 GSO 768mb (with DVI/DVI). Everything works fine and haven't come across any problems. 6e0200000100000001000000620200000d00000002010c00d041030a040000000101060000010101 060000007fff04001e00000072006f006d002d007200650076006900730069006f006e0000002f000 0006e5669646961204765466f72636520393630302047534f204f70656e474c20456e67696e65205b 4546495d22000000400030002c006400650076006900630065005f00740079007000650000000b000 000646973706c6179100000004e00560043004100500000001800000004000000000003000c000000 00000007000000000e0000006e0061006d00650000000b000000646973706c6179140000004000300 02c006e0061006d0065000000120000004e5644412c446973706c61792d41100000006d006f006400 65006c0000001b0000006e5669646961204765466f72636520393630302047534f0e0000004e00560 050004d00000020000000010000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001400 0000400031002c006e0061006d0065000000120000004e5644412c446973706c61792d42200000004 00031002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c00650000000e0000004e5644412c4e564d61 63220000005600520041004d002c0074006f00740061006c00730069007a006500000008000000000 0003020000000400030002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c00650000000e0000004e56 44412c4e564d616322000000400031002c006400650076006900630065005f0074007900700065000 0000b000000646973706c61791c0000006400650076006900630065005f0074007900700065000000 0f0000004e5644412c506172656e74

Rob G, thanks for the solution for the 64bit VoodooHDA, I really appreciate that! Isn't Snow Leopards extensions.mkext now in the dir: /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/ I'm running just fine over here without the PlatformUUID.kext and the UUID flag. Though that might have something to do with having my AppleAHCIPort.kext in /S/L/E/?
  6. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

I have just got VoodooHDA working. I can't believe I hadn't figured this out straight away, I feel like an absolute idiot. But it was because VoodooHDA.kext isn't 64bit compatible and my computer was running in 64bit mode (by default). I hadn't checked for this because I read that Snow runs in 32bit mode by default and automatically assumed I was. So if anyone else is having audio problems check for this and try booting with the "arch=x86_32" Kernel Flag.
  7. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

Hey guy's thanks for all the information and files concerning Snow Leopard. However, I am having problems with sound, VoodooHDA doesn't want to work. Does anyone have an AppleHDA.kext that works, or another method for SL? BTW I'm using BootThink 2.3 and it works perfectly. I use it on USB Stick but I think it could be installed onto an internal drive and work (unlike Chameleon), well 2.1 did anyway. Thanks Have you tried using the latest Transmission Nightly Build? http://build.transmissionbt.com/job/trunk-mac/ I've attached the DSDT.aml I'm using for you. It was the same one that was posted a page or two back. dsdt.aml.zip

I had the same problem with 1.74 and 1.75 on 10.5.8 Going back to 1.73 seems to work. No idea with 10.6.1 though, but I can imagine it will be the same problem.
  9. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

Frantisheq, That is perfect just enough to get some of us started. Thanks for taking the time to write it! I'll give any feed back that I have when I try it myself.
  10. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

I also agree, even a short step-by-step guide would be fantastic.
  11. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

Thanks for the SL info guys. I haven't got SL Retail yet but once I do I'll try it all out. You guys are installing from a Vanilla Retail disc aren't you?
  12. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

Just a quick question, it's not really an OSX related question but a 9200/410 question. I've been thinking of upgrading my processor in my 9200 from a Core 2 Duo (2.13ghz) to a Core 2 Quad. I've read that it's possible without having to also change the mobo, but anything above the Q6700 isnt compatible. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this? and can confirm the Q6700 thing.
  13. Dell XPS 410 Resource Extravaganza

I've decided to go with a 8800GTS, it'll be my first Nvidia card so I'm quite excited to get it, I just can not decide whether to get the 320MB or the 640MB. The only difference is the VMemory size, so I'm not sure if I should bother with paying the extra £££ for the 640MB.
  14. ATI Mobility Radeon X1350

Doesn't seem to work on my X1300 Pro (Device ID 7183), I'll be keeping an eye on this thread though incase of any developments. [EDIT] To be more specific no QE/CI and no resolution change what-so-ever. This also appears in the system logs. Hope that helps a little. I'm going to give this a try later on my x1300 Pro, I'll post the result later.
