    I need your help

There is a shortage of engineers for computers at the moment so the time has never been better to get into computer related jobs. During the dot com era there was a massive influx or foreigners coming over to work for cheap but now there isn't as many foreigners coming over and the demand is going back up. What area of computers are you good at this moment? Programming/Hardware/Support? There are many fields of study for computers so you need to pick one and focus on it. I'd assume that because of your age you would have more experience in management/sales than some of the younger folks so that's definitely a plus when it comes to hiring. You might want to check out craigslist/careerbuilder for some of the positions available locally and try to work towards those areas. You might want to see if you can use some of your contacts to see if they're hiring or know people hiring and start training in those fields as well.
  2. -x86 I'd be weary of these iPC distros and wait for a proper one instead of some half-assed release like usual.

Leopard freezes on heavy disk/CPU use

do you have a 4GB+ system? use AHCI and disable jmicron(delete kext too) if so.
  5. No. The 4+GB problem is when you have Jmicron kext installed and use IDE mode for sata. Don't use Jmicron for raid. Use AHCI.
  6. This kext fixed most of the crashes, but some other kexts still cause crashes. Such as running Parallels and VM Fusion at the same time causes lock ups. AHCI is the only bullet proof solution to > 4gig issue, but I hate how it slows my system down with the huge delays in waking the HDDs. Turning off HDD sleep in system preferences didn't prevent them from sleeping either.
  7. The Solution to this bug can be solved 2 ways,(the latter is ideal if you have all SATA) 1) Delete Jmicron.kext from /system/library/extensions Delete AppleVIAATA.kext from /system/library/extensions/ and add AppleIntelPIIXATA (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=88335 ) to /system/library/extensions Disable Jmicron in your BIOS Reboot with -f flag before OSX boots up, (hold down f8 key if you don't get a countdown prompt) (This does not work perfectly since other kexts have the > 4gig issue. You will still have freezes depending on the software you use. 2) Enable AHCI in BIOS under SATA settings if you have ALL SATA devices(HDD,DVD) This option works the best if you aren't using any IDE devices. (This works perfectly, but causes very big delays upon first accessing the drive and upon waking HDDS from sleep.)

Weird replacing folder function in Leopard

I'm not sure I understand you, but replace in osx is different than xp. Replace = delete original + copy new.

problem with X11 on kalyway 10.5.1

X11 goes in that crash cycle when Quartz Extreme isn't enabled. Such as on my x1400 mobility.
  10. At least you could even install on a raptor. Kalyway refuses to load install disc on my raptor.
  11. then you're in luck! X1300 for desktop has been found to work for some people. I don't remember which thread it was in, but look for natit, nvinject, titan, atinject drivers
  12. ATI x1300/1400 mobility does not work on 10.5.1. You can only get CI software enabled. Nothing you can do except for buying a new graphics card. I have the problem. Install Mobility.kext You can modify the resolution with or without the kext installed by editing com.apple.boot.plist: sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist This is my com.apple.boot.plist; Use your max resolution. Mine is for 17" <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>"Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" -v platform=X86PC idehalt=0</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>2</string> </dict> </plist> Mobility.kext.zip
  13. I get the same error with kalyway/iakatos. Hope someone has a suggestion.
  14. Let everyone you know who has a DELL to bookmark this thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;hl=stac9200 The rebooting is usually caused because of the lack of HPET in dell bios. You need to press f8 at boot and type cpus=1 or disable one core in the bios. Or you could edit the /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist Read above link for how to. Try typing -v at boot for verbose to see any error messages.
