InsanelyMac Protégé
1. I've just tried it myself trying to following the tonymacosx's guide using Retail DVD image on a USB stick ( I don't have DL dvd). I first tried booting with the latest #####, but couldn't get pass the initial Apple Logo screen. Then I tried #####-GE, even worse: I got black screen after choosing the SL Install USB stick as booting device in Chameleon. So right now I'm totally beaten.
2. From the information I have gathered so far, it seems impossible to install SL (retail vanilla or iAtkos) because of the Optimus and that Dell BIOS cannot disable the NVidia GT 420m card. Although I've seen people succeed in using GT 420M without Optimus on some Acer laptop. Anybody tried?
3. I tried to follow this guide but right after I type: sudo fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 I got this: fdisk: could not open MBR file /usr/standalone/i386/boot0: No such file or directory Enter 'help' for information I could never get to the partition list for disk0, on which my Mac OS X and WinXP are installed. Anybody has idea about this? Thanks!
4. I don't think you'll have to do anything to MBR. I think you have to modify com.apple.Boot.plist to set a timeout. In that way you should be able to see the option to boot to Vista.
5. I tried that and it gives me the famous "still waiting for root device" error. I am trying to use a SATA hard drive. Is this relevant? I also notice that a lot of people having trouble with WD drives, which is what I'm having. I tried to set the JMicron to "AHCI" and "Basic" in BIOS but none of them works. I tried everything I can find....really frustrating here...
6. Can anyone tell me how to use a hard drive connected through JMicron controller in Mac OS x86 10.4.8? The biggest problem is of course that the Mac OS doesn't even see the disk. Then another problem is that although I can see the disk in Windows, it can only be formatted as NTFS? Is any fixes for this? Thank you very much!!!
7. Thanks! I realized that it might have something to do with the en0/1 thing and I did tried to edit the Networkinterfaces.plist, after the card got recognized but cannot connect to any network (the Airport logo's there, card shows up in System Profiler...). Anyway, the card just cannot connect and it cannot detect any wireless networks either. But it can been seen from Mac OS though.
8. The system didn't even recognize the card first. After I replaced all the relevant (I think) kext's from 10.4.7: AppleAirport, AppleAirport2, IOPCIFamily, IO80211Family and followed the instructions for fixing wifi problems with Atheros chipset, the card was recognized as a Airport Extreme. But somehow it cannot connect to any network. Any ideas?
9. 10.4.7 Update

What are the differences between this release and Jas' 10.4.7 updater?
10. Question: How to image a Mac partition?

So the Ghost under DOS supports UFS+ partitions?
11. Question: How to image a Mac partition?

Thanks! But can I save it on separate DVDs directly from Disk Utility, cause I don't have another UFS+ partition?
12. I couldn't find anywhere a way. Thanks!
13. I run the .pkg and at the end of the process it said "there's error during the installation process". I rebooted and now my previously fine 10.4.5 system is screwed?! Is there a way to save it? I have an old Dell 4500 with P4 2.0 GHz, SSE2, no No/NX. Thanks! By "screwed" I mean I can't get pass the grey screen with Apple which followed by the "You need to reboot" in four languages
14. Now I can never log into the GUI. The LCD shows "Out of range" I tried first using -x option then reboot. I tried also adding a "Graphics Mode"=xxxx line in com.apple.Boot.plist I guess it's a user-dependent thing Please help!!!
15. Safari Crashes More Often in 10.4.5

I feel the same way too. So which do you guys is the best under 10.4.5 so far? Firefox? Camino? or Opera? I used Camino on a Powerbook before but it's not as responsive as Safari but will test under x86 again.
