  1. hi all my harddrive had below partitions: [ 1:hfs+ ][ 2:hfs+ ][ 3:fat32 ][ 4:linux native ][ 5:linux swap ] i wanted to resize some of them and do something like this: [ 1:hfs+ ][ 2:hfs+ ][ 3:fat32 ][ 4:linux native ][ 5:linux native ] when width of the [ ... ] field means size of a partition. using command line i could resize hfs+ partitions, but couldn't move the partition #2 down to have all free space as one piece. i switched journalling off for #1 and #2 and then i could resize them, but still could move #2 down. using my xubuntu system and gparted i resized #1, deleted #2 and create again with the size i wanted. also resized all the other partitions. the problem is i couldn't create hfs+ in gparted so i tried to create blank (non-formatted) or linux partitions and then re-format it under mac using one of these guides: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~pcarbo/macnexstar.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=89960 but no luck. even if gparted or fdisk under linux says it's formatted as hfs+ i can't see it under mac. could anyone help me how to format it with no loosing other paritions on the harddrive? cheers, g.
  2. normal time for burning full dvd at 8x speed is about 10 mins. check in your burning aplication under win if it burn with full speed. other idea: maybe windws hard disk is much slower....
  3. set harddrive active?

Hi .isidor How did you sort it out? I get 'chain booting error' when try to install and boot 10.4.8 and couldn't sort it out. Can you please let me know how did you do it? Thanks
  4. hi guys! i have been using both ps2 mouse and keyboard with my 10.4.6 JaS. today just bought apple usb keyboard, but still got my old ps2 mouse. to make the keyboard worked i had to enable 'legacy usb keyboard' in bios, otherwise it was not working during booting. now keyoboard works perfectly in both os x and xp, but ps2 mouse is not working on mac system. is there any chance to make usb keyboard and ps2 mouse work? of course i definitely prefer a solution without reinstaling os x if possible. thanks
  5. Not sure if it will help, but have you checked firewall options? I think FTP connections are blocked as default.
  6. chain booting error

Rammjet many thanks for a reply. it helped to remove all the partitions, make them again and install os x again to the main hfs+ partition. then i restored os x on the back-up partition from disk image using disk utility. both system were booting. unfortunately after restoring old system on the main partition it has stopped booting again. i'm going to try everything again tonight, but instead of restoring main parition from image i'm going to try carbon copy cloner. i hope i will work. btw: how to use darwin boot loader to boot windows? i have only two mac os x systems to chose in darwin. no windows partition. does it support booting linux as well as another OS?
  7. hi all first about configuration: i have two HDs on the same ATA channel: the master one with winXP partition and another ntfs, the slave one with two hfs+ partition (main os x and back-up) and fat32 partition. i use win xp booting to choose win or mac and then darwin booting to choose main or back-up mac partition. i have chain0 copied to my win partition. it used to be fine until i wanted to try 10.4.8 amd version. after this i got 'chain booting error' when choosing mac in windows booting. the one way to boot up mac os x is to unplug my main HD and connect the slave one with os x as a master. even if i disable master controller, leave os x drive as slave and choose it in BIOS as a booting partition it doesn't work. now i re-installed 10.4.6 instead of 10.4.8 but still got the same problem which is really weird because everything (hardware configuration and operation systems) is exactly the same as before when all worked fine. any ideas? btw. i want to install in near future ubuntu on slave HD, so there will be win xp, two partitions with os x and ubuntu. could someone advise me how to do it smoothly? i tried to install easybcd but couldn't do it last night, don't know why.
  8. two screens in macvidia

SOLVED the IONDRVSupport.kext needs to be deleted from Extensions folder. I don't know why it hasn't been done by macvidia installer.
  9. i have just installed a new system. i did everything like before. the very weird thing is now i can see two screens in my system, but i got just one. system profiler says: Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Not Supported Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported SyncMaster: Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Not Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported there should be just Syncmaster. in display tab in system preferences i have "display", "arrangement" and "color", but have never had the "arangement" before. aldo in "display" i got "gather windows" button, which has never been there before. the problem is when i try to drag some windows outside the main desktop it shows some stipes on the main one. the second has to stay in 1024x768 mode, but anyway i got just one dvi output. i got s-video, but i don't think so it may be this one. does anyone know how to switch the second screen off? i used the same install disk and the same macvidia drivers as before.... the system is Jas 10.4.6 install disc (i will patch it to 10.4.7 and then to 10.4.8 with old kernel tomorrow morning) + macvidia 1.0.8. graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce 6200 AGP
  10. Hi all I tried this method, but no luck, but I guess I'm very close. After patching and decrypting I got a message that some files in Frameworks directory couldn't be found (no such file or directory) and then got some error during first booting, but could see that that was 8.8.1 kernel. There were actually MacVidia kernal panic errors, cause I forgot to remove some files of the driver. Then I removed it and repair permissions, boot up again, and got this: that's from log: (92: coreservicesd)tfp: failed on 0: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LangAnalysis.framework/Versions/A/Support/LAServer.app/Contents/MacOS/LAServer: kCGErrorInvalidConnection : CGSGetNextEventRecord: Invalid connection than dsFindDirNodes returned -14071, count = 0 dsFindDirNodes returned -14071, count = -1610603584 Couldn't find root user. Sleeping and trying again. I was searching for on the forum, some people got dimilar problem, but no solution any ideas?
  11. I use neo office because it's free and doesn't require X11. on windows i use open office. i don't use ms office at all as that's not a freeware. i know there are still some incompabilities between ms office and the free products, but i'm not going to spend so much money to buy ANY ms product
  12. hnnrs, i got exactly the same.... any ideas someone? the weird thing is i have two partitions. i did copy new kernel and everything on one of them, but the second one stopped booting as well
  13. Screen Geometry Problems

Try menu in monitor (not in system preferences). usually there are some geometric settings like moving left/right, resize, etc.
  14. you have to install apple update, even if you have 10.4.8 unofficial update already. yesterday i tried on my PC, but didn't know about '-legacy' option etc. - check JackHair's post in this this topic (page 2, #39) the old kernel performance should be the same. try to undelete the AppleSMBios.kext
