  1. Hackintosh suddenly won't start w/o safe mode. Help!

Okay, but once I am able to boot (or not able) what is the next step? I don't want to have to boot from the USBInstaller each time, I just want to go back the way it was X'(
  2. My latest back-up was on May 1st. I went out of town for a few days, only to come back and now the build won't boot past the spinning wheel/apple logo/gray screen. This is particularly frustrating because my audio doesn't work in safe mode and I have to re-enable all the user-added fonts in font book. Any ideas on what happened or why this would be? I didn't install or change anything since the last time I used it, however I did just see that "auto-updates" are checked in the App Store, so I have now turned those off. My rig is as follows: * Obsidian 660T Case * ASRock Z77 Xtreme 4 * i7 3770k * 32gb RAM (4x 8gb) * 2TB HDD, 256gb SSD, 128gb SSD (with Windows 8 already installed on 1 TB, OS X onto the 256 SSD) * 2x GeForce GTX 660 ti 3gb SLI * Dedicated Sound card onboard * Blu Ray burner/Reader 12x * Wifi/Bluetooth Card (which only works on the Windows side of things for now) Extremities: * Monitor: 27" Samsung HDMI 1080p and ASUS 21" HDMI 1080p * Keyboard: SteelSeries Merc USB Wired * Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Note: I've been using 10.9.2 since Day 1 on this build with no problems. 3. Help me install Realtek ALC898 codec (10.9.2)!

IT WORKED! Oh my word. Not only did it boot with no boot commands (-x, -f, etc.) but I have sound! You are a king. Now if I can only get my wireless card to work, I will be unstoppable. Thank you SO much!
  4. Help me install Realtek ALC898 codec (10.9.2)!

Thank you for your reply! A few questions, as I am fairly new to all of this: 1. How do I know if I am using integrated graphics? 2. By disabling in the BIOS, should I select "onboard" rather than "PCI express?" I can upload a picture of my BIOS if that helps. 3. What if I am using integrated graphics? Should I still delete all the kexts and Kext Wizard, or is there another route?
  5. Help me install Realtek ALC898 codec (10.9.2)!

This is actually the guide I followed that worked the "most" I should say. I still cannot boot without being in safe mode which is what I think is hurting my audio extension/kext. Attached is my very blurry boot -v screen. Most notable lines: ... Kext com.apple.driver.AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB start failed (0xdc00400a) Kext com.apple.driver.AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB failed to load (0xdc008017) ... ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out Warning IOPlatformPluginUtil : getSPUIDInfo: this is an unknown CPU model 0x3a -- power management may be incomplete or unsupported Sound assertion in AppleHDACodecGeneric at line 352 Sound assertion in AppleHDACodecGeneric at line 352 Sound assertion in AppleHDACodecGeneric at line 352 Sound assertion in AppleHDACodecGeneric at line 352 Sound assertion in AppleHDACodecGeneric at line 352 Sound assertion in AppleHDACodecGeneric at line 352 Sound assertion in AppleHDAEngine at line 581 ... This makes me think that the sound is actually working fine, but its' another problem that is causing me to boot into safe mode, and is triggering an outdated kext for audio.
  6. For the life of me, I cannot get my rig to properly produce sound. Everything else works perfectly and smoothly, except for this very important aspect. Not sure if this matters, but I do have to boot in safe mode every time. I have done every guide I can find for installing the ALC898 kext properly, but it just does not seem to work. Does me having to boot in safe mode mess me up? Am I just missing something? (I also cannot get my WiFi card to work, but I understand that's a totally different process and board section, but if anyone has notes on that, I'd appreciate it) My rig is as follows: Obsidian 660T Case ASRock Z77 Xtreme 4 i7 3770k 32gb RAM (4x 8gb) 2TB HDD, 256gb SSD, 128gb SSD (with Windows 8/1TB, OSX/256SSD) 2x GeForce GTX 660 ti 3gb SLI Dedicated Sound card onboard Blu Ray burner/Reader 12x Wifi/Bluetooth Card Extremities: Monitor: 27" Samsung HDMI 1920X1080 monitor 2hz refresh rate Keyboard: SteelSeries Merc USB Wired Mouse: Razer DeathAdder
  7. Hello geniuses, I have scoured InsanelyMac, OSx86, and even, yes, "the site that must not be named," but I cannot find a solution within my immediate knowledge for my problem. After many tinkerings, I am finally able to get to the language selection screen (first screen in the OS X 10.8 installation process). Much to my dismay, neither my keyboard nor my mouse are responsive. If I leave the screen idle for some time (approx. 8 min) it goes blank white, but hitting the power button seems to wake it up, and I'm back at the language selection screen. I am following this guide to install Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) onto my rig. My boot function (is that the right word) is as follows: -v GraphicsEnabler=No -f My rig is as follows: Obsidian 660T Case ASRock Z77 Xtreme 4 i7 3770k 32gb RAM (4x 8gb) 2TB HDD, 256gb SSD, 128gb SSD (with Windows 8 already installed on 1 TB. My plan is to install OS X onto the 256 SSD) 2x GeForce GTX 660 ti 3gb SLI (although I've disabled them for now via BIOS, using only the onboard graphics - HDMI hooked up to the motherboard) Dedicated Sound card onboard Blu Ray burner/Reader 12x Wifi/Bluetooth Card Extremities: Monitor: 27" Samsung HDMI 1920X1080 monitor 2hz refresh rate Keyboard: SteelSeries Merc USB Wired Mouse: Razer DeathAdder I have already deleted the nVidia* files from the /Extensions folder, as well as /Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext I have tinkered around with Kext Wizard to see if I need to install a driver that is recognized at installation, but honestly cannot figure out what to correctly add. Help me InsanelyMac. You're my only hope.
