    R9 290X Help for mavericks

If you don't force it to use Baladi (AMD injection), it uses something else - it shows up in IOReg as "ATY,AMD,RadeonFramebuffer@0". It's some kind of default radeon framebuffer that is not Baladi. Running with that works a lot better than Baladi for me, and I still have full acceleration and QE/CI.

    R9 290X Help for mavericks

My 290X has had working DP with full acceleration and no flickering / issues since the first developer previews. I can't get it to work with Baladi but with the default framebuffers it works just fine (although if I connect another monitor I get flickering and similar issues). Works perfectly fine for HDMI as well, but not for DVI. I use the following settings: <key>Graphics</key> <dict> <key>Inject</key> <dict> <key>ATI</key> <false/> <key>Intel</key> <false/> <key>NVidia</key> <false/> </dict> <key>PatchVBios</key> <false/> <key>InjectEDID</key> <false/> </dict>

    R9 290X Help for mavericks

I played with the framebuffers and DisplayPort a bit this weekend. Using Inject/ATI=false uses the default RadeonFramebuffer and everything works great, BUT i have the annoying problem that when the monitor is unplugged or turned off, the computer crashes. Tried to get the display working with the Baladi framebuffer to see if it made a difference, but I could only get it to work with graphic glitches and very odd resolution choices (1700x1100 or 950x600-something I think it was). Tried a lot of EDID tinkering together with a wide range of framebuffer edits for senseid / control flags / features, but sadly didn't get anywhere. Does anyone use Balade with DisplayPort without issues? Anyway, I think my issue is driver related. Works great on DVI or HDMI, but I need DP to drive my screen at 60hz, and when using DP I get a freeze when disconnecting the monitor. I noticed that this does not happen when I am connected to the computer with Screen Sharing. I suspect AMD's "feature" that turns off the gpu (more or less) when no monitors is connected can be the cause, and it keeps the gpu running when I use Screen Sharing. Anyone seen something similar, or has any ideas of a good way to fool the driver I have more screens connected?
  4. I have an odd issue - basically, if I disconnect the display, the computer stays on and is working normally. When running without display connected, it reports the display to be "internal display", which I guess is to be expected. However, when I re-connect the display to the computer, it crashes. I tried the same thing under Windows on the same computer where it works fine, so it seems to be some OS X issue. An interesting thing is that if I connect with Screen Sharing to the computer from another mac and leave that running when unplugging / replugging, everything works fine. I suspect there is some issue with reconnecting a display when it's the only display output there is. I'm running an AMD 290X GPU, but I don't think that's the problem as I get the same behavior on all ports, and also on the IGPU (HD4600). Also, the system.log shows no entries at all when the crash happens. Has anyone else had this problem, or got any suggestions or where to start looking? I have tried some minor things like changing system definition, set internal display resolution to same as the screens, tried hotkey for detecting displays when replugging monitor and such, but no luck so far. Any ideas?

    R9 290X Help for mavericks

Any of you running your 290X on DisplayPort on the Baladi framebuffer? Earlier I had a DVI monitor and got Baladi working good with that, but now that I have swapped to a DP monitor, I just get hangs during boot.

    Yosemite AppleHDA HDMI Audio

I'm not very familiar with the inner workings of HDMI Audio, so this might be a stupid question, but.. Does this patch enable Audio support for DisplayPort as well? I'm currently using a screen where I can get 60Hz on DP but only 30 on HDMI, so I'm hoping to find some solution to enable DP Audio output instead of using HDMI.

    R9 and R7 support in 10.10 (Finally)

I'm using a 290X and I must say it's not THAT bad. I only use a single monitor (I heard some people got 2 monitors working recently), but it's basically bug-free. The worst one yet is that flash video (ie youtube, facebook videos and such) seems to have a 50/50 chance to show scrambled content - reload and it's usually fine. Not sure if it's a flash bug or video decoding bug, but I haven't seen it in places like VLC or similar. I can play games at very good framerates for hours at a time with no hiccups or crashes. I've had an occational crash when gaming (maybe 1 per month), but I'm not sure if that's because of the GPU, the Yosemite beta, my hackintosh configuration or what the real issue is. Anyway, I feel the hawaii drivers are very usable already.

    Intel HD 4600 QE/CI Yosemite

It's not that status bar - it's the white menu bar on the top of your screen. If QE/CI is enabled it's semi transparent (you can see the background blend through the white bar), if not it's solid white.

    Intel HD 4600 QE/CI Yosemite

To expand on the previous answer, basically it's the hardware acceleration in OS X. OS X works without it, but with quite poor performance. One simple way to check if it's enabled is to go into Dashboard and add a new widget, like a clock for example. When you select the widget you will see a graphic effect with "ripples" on the background where you place it. If QE/CI is not enabled, it's just placed on the Dashboard with no graphical effects.

Just wanted to add that I have the exact same numbers on my bios dump as these guys (Asus DirectCU II OC 290X).

    R9 290X Help for mavericks

This is a thread about 290X (hawaii chipset) - we know 280X and below (including 7790) works fine.

    R9 290X Help for mavericks

Shamelessly bumping my own question. This is currently the only, and very annoying, problem I have with 10.10. Anyone have a clue what causes this? Bad sensor id's in the framebuffer maybe?
  13. I've swapped monitor to an LG 34UM95, a 34" 21:9 monitor with 3440x1440 resolution. It works great in 10.10 (at DP6 currently), but it has a weird sync issue. Whenever the monitor loses sync - like powering off the monitor, leaving it until display sleep sets in, unplugging/replugging it and such, the video signal is lost. Whenever that happens, the computer works 100% but the monitor can't get a signal, and the only way to get it back is to reboot. Anyone know what causes this? Might be a driver issue för my GPU (ASUS 290X), but I'm leaning towards some EDID issue. Would extracting EDID and setting a CustomEDID tag in clover sort these things out?

    Can't boot after installing DP6

So, this is quite weird. I tried all kinds of boot settings, kext juggling and such to get it booting. Nothing worked. I found a bootable USB (Mavericks installer) and used that to restore the drive from a Time Machine backup. The only difference is I got an extra boot option in Clover to boot from my regular HD, so then I had two - neither of them worked. After a few hours of pulling my hair I just gave up and booted the 10.10 installer to make a fresh install. I chose to install to my hd and went for a coffee. When I got back to the computer, it had booted to the desktop, with all my files intact. It seems the installer just fixed whatever was wrong with the boot. My problem now though is that I'm not sure what DP version I'm using, as I had DP5, it broke during DP6 install, and now I have restored DP1 kexts. Is there any way to "reset" the AppStore so that I get the option to download DP6 again? Also, anyone know why I have to options in clover to boot from the same hd, and how I can remove one of them?

    Can't boot after installing DP6

I actually quite recently installet 6.9.1315 to get my sensors to work properly. However, when fiddling with the settings after it stopped booting I sometimes got a boot error with something like "waiting for sensors", so I thought maybe there was an issue with DP6 and the sensor plugins. That's why I reverted to a plugin-free version of FakeSMC that I know worked in the past. Didn't work though.
