1. Hi guys, If anybody has got any gefore 7600GT working using EFI strings help would be very much appreciated. I've got snow leopard fully working with DSDT by following this excellent guide, (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184367) but for some reason my no EFI strings that i try (which I have got in com.apple.Boot.plist in my /Extra folder), taken from two sources, will work. The first source of EFI strings for my card is http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=113967 The second source I've tried is EFI studio and neither do the trick. infact, the first source was the only string that gave me a working graphics for Leopard and not the one from EFI studio, but it was worth trying anyway. I know that the 7600 GT does work with snow leopard and EFI strings because it has been confirmed here and in quite a few other places that I've read... http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...p;printable=yes I've also tried modifying the com.apple.Boot.plist in SystemConfiguartion, tried using identical copies of them in both locations, nethier helped. Iv've also tried NVDANV50Hal.kext and 0.2.1 NVInject in my /Extra/Extensions folder but to no avail. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks This is my current com.apple.boot.plist (the same EFI string working fine on my leopard installation). <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=x86_32</string> <key>device-properties</key> <string>6c0200000100000001000000600200000d00000002010c00d041030a010000000101060000010 101060000007fff04001e00000072006f006d002d007200650076006900730069006f006e0000002 e 0000004e7669646961204765466f7263652037363030204754204f70656e474c20456e67696e6520 5 b4546495d22000000400030002c006400650076006900630065005f00740079007000650000000b0 0 0000646973706c6179100000004e00560043004100500000001800000004000000000003000c0000 0 000000007000000000e0000006e0061006d00650000000b000000646973706c61791400000040003 0 002c006e0061006d0065000000120000004e5644412c446973706c61792d41100000006d006f0064 0 065006c0000001a0000004e7669646961204765466f72636520373630302047540e0000004e00560 0 50004d00000020000000010000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001400 0 000400031002c006e0061006d0065000000120000004e5644412c446973706c61792d42200000004 0 0031002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c00650000000e0000004e5644412c4e564d61 6 3220000005600520041004d002c0074006f00740061006c00730069007a006500000008000000000 0 001020000000400030002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c00650000000e0000004e56 4 4412c4e564d616322000000400031002c006400650076006900630065005f0074007900700065000 0 000b000000646973706c61791c0000006400650076006900630065005f0074007900700065000000 0 f0000004e5644412c506172656e74</string> </dict> </plist>
2. Has anybody managed to figure this issue out? I've got a Gainward GTS 250 1GB, so if anyone knows how to get HDMi working properly on this card i would be stupidly gratefull! Just got my new computer, and bought it after 10.6.3 came out, so have never experienced the HDMI out on my card, and don't want to downgrade to 10.6.2 and lose corei5 support, but I'm nearly at the end of my tether with this issue and really am considering it :-( Cheers guys
3. Hi guys This isn't my first hackintosh build i'm asking about, but my second. I'm actually writing off the first right now, after mnay many upgrades! I''m looking to get a whole new set of hardware in the next 2-3 weeks, and I have been trawling the forums trying to get information all the compatibility of all the different components and to narrow down my choices a bit. I've been thinking of a quad core i5 but need a motherbaord to go with it. Intel X58 are too expensive and so I'm planning a P55 board. I know Gigabyte are always very compatible and currently running my system with a p35 DS3p. I'm planning on getting one of the gigabyte P55 boards, but have a few issues. I've been as far as Chameleon, extra folder extensions and vanilla install etc Anyway. Which are the most compatible Gigabyte P55 motherboards? ive been doing my research for a couple of weeks but cant seem to find one or two of these boards which people are picking over the others In fact I can't seem to find a single guide wriiten about any of them. (which im assuming is because thyre very new) All I've seen is tonymacx86s stuff, which seems very good. I was wondering though, is this reputable? is there any where i can find out how to install on these baords using DSDT or just the old fashioned Kext methods encase tonys fails? I was also wondering about the best graphics cards to use. I would like to get an ati card, but am not sure, even after a few weeks of looking, which one to get. I've previously bought nVidia, but as the AIT cards are so much better performance wise I want to get one of them instead. I also know theyre harder to configure, but how much harder? I know the mac pros use the ATI 4870s, and that anything above 5*** is risky because of this, but what numbers and manufacturers work the best for osx? can i saefely get a 5870? Factory overcloked ones i know dont work very well, which has ruled out my XFX choice (XFX ati Radeon 4870 HD) Also, what am I going to need to use, EFI strings? Thanks very much in advance Jack

Help needed on new Hackintosh Build

Hi Guys, Thanks for your replies, and sorry for my late one! Have been way too busy recently. Anyway, some good advice there, it seems that the Tonymacx86 stuff is very good. I've heard that the ati stuff is a lot of hassle, and thats a good suggestion, buying an nvidia 9800. I still really want to get myself a Radeon as the performance is a lot better than the geforce series, so I'm thinking maybe I should keep my current geforce for the new computer, buy a Radeon 4870 or a 4890 and hope for the best, so i can get the system working with my current card which is easy as adding some EFI strings and then experiment with the radeon after. However, I think im still gonna need to do a bit of research before i buy an ATI. If i was to get a Radeon 4870, does anyone know if the XFX card is good? I'm still not really sure which manuafacturuers are best for OSX, does anybody know which are the best manufacurers to pick for the radeon 4 series cards? lso, I may be getting more money than I initially thought, and am considering the possibilty of an X58 motherboard instead (although this may pan out differently, I'm still mainly thinking of a P55). I've heard that thee X58 boards are still semi experimental, can anyone verify how easy/difficult it is to get one of the gigabyte X58s working properly? Thanks very much Jack

Help needed on new Hackintosh Build

Hi mac09hack, Thanks for your response, I'm sorry I havent got back to you earlier but have been up to my eyeballs in Masters exams recently! Is cakewalk equivalent or better than the Gigabeast/##### method? Whats happened to installing kexts in the extra folder, is that completely phased out now and everybody is using installers like the two mentioned above? Does anyone else have any more advice for me? Thanks guys
6. Hi I've used osx86 for about three years now, my computer has a extremely compatible hardware GA-P35-DS3P Intel Q6600 Dual Core Processor @ 2.4 ghz 4gb crucial ram XFX geforce 7600gt 256mb pci-e 2x Samsung F1 1tb hard drives Samsung Dvd Writer I've got a retail DVD install, using Chameleon 2.0 RC2. I've used EFI strings to install my Geforce 7600gt and a similar method to patch the audio. I use a pci ethernet card which i know is extrememly compatible and works out of the box. I've used this setup, using extensions taken from retail install guides to put in my extra folder. I've been using the computer like this for about a year now, and I think its about time I found out what each extension I'm using does instead of trying things out on trial and error. I have a samsung 22" HDTV which I use as a second monitor and sometimes I have problems with the computer crashing when switching etween the TV and HDMI mode (for use as a second display) Can anybody help me figure out what the optimum extensions are for my system or point me in the right direction so that I can fiigure it out myself? That would be awesome... Cheers guys

GRUB and Guid Partition Table

This seems to be something nobody knows how to do...
8. I have been searching around for quite a long time on a way to set-up a bootloader which is capable of booting my setup. I had multiple drives in my computer and I install osx86 on a 500 gigabyte and windows on a 160 gig. I don't want to put both operating systems on partitions of the same disk as this would be moving backwards... after I bought a drive specially for windows. I have been searching around for ages and tried grub, tried chain0, tried wingrub and all sort of other options... the problem is that I want to stick with guid really if possible, and I was reading the other day that there is a way to get grub to work with GPT. Does anybody know how to do this or has anyone done this successfully and could give me advice on how to get it working? I'm not sure if patching grub for guide would be a waste of time and still not be able to boot osx. I'm not incredibly familiar with linux and it was a mission trying to get grub loaded in the first place, (took me all day) so I don't want to start messing with it again really unless I know it can be done... has anybody tried and suceeded? Would be very grateful for any help. Thanks in advance

I want to make my own custom Leopard DVD!

If I were you I would buy a dual layer DVD burner and a few Dual Layer DVDs. I followed guides to make leopard fit onto a single layer DVD quite a few times and didn't get very far, the DVD wouldn't install properly.

I want to make my own custom Leopard DVD!

There's no need really now mate. What you should do is use a retail install and chameleon DFE, adding your kexts into the bootloader itself. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=114013 This is a great way to boot osx86 because it allows you to use an unmodified version of OSX and all the major changes you need to make to the OS can be done by manipulating the files that the bootloader uses to start. You can update flawlessly from software update (as long as you have the minumum amount of kexts necessary (and compatible hardware). check it out if you havent already...

Modified boot-132 Bootloader

It's a great piece of software and the guys who came up with this have done a wicked job. I was really happy when I got this setup and running and could update from software update, I think it's genius. The only thing I have a problem with is the boot itself. There seems to be a huge gap with osx86 that the bootloader itself is not capable of multi-booting, grub is difficult to setup with it (standard EFI darwin boot or chameleon, and with Guid Partition Table this becomes next to impossible) and chain0 doesn't always work. Meaning that we don't have a bootloader which is fairly easy to configure and can boot other operating systems for us unless they are on the same partition as the drive we're booting. I do not want to switch back to havin my osx86 and windows installs on the same partition, because I have dedicated drives for each... I've noticed that the chameleon-DFE bootloader has the ability to select other operating systems and boot them. The only thing that is bugging me is the fact that there doesn't seem to be anyway to configure it so that it comes uop with a menu rather than defaulting the drive that it is installed on. I know that the chameleon DFE bootloader loads the extensions for the OSX install, but I wonder if it would be possible to not load these drivers, say if u sel;ected another operating system, configuring chameleon to boot other operating systems. This would make things a lot easier and save having to go into bios every time i want to boot windows. If this really isn't possible, I'd still like to be able to make the bootloader actually load the operating system for me like standard chameleon does, rather than just stopping on a command prompt... anyone have any ideas? also if anyone knows a method to get grub working for a GPT i would be very grateful.... Cheers Guys
12. Hi guys, as the title says, my motherboard has broken and i need to replace it with something fairly urgently. Have had numerous different problems with the current one which is a GA-P35-DS3P. First this started out as something weird hapening with the hard disk (samsung spinpoint 500 gb). The drive would start clicking every two seconds or so and the computer would have trouble transferring data from the drive, and also freeze up randomly every so often. have done drive diagnostics and allsorts, reformatted many times, and then eventually sent it bk to samsung who gave me a brand knew drive. Formatted, reinstalled, and two days later, the same thing happened again. Now my windows hard drive has failed to be seen in bios, which is compltely random as it has been working perfectly since i bought it in january (samsung spinpoint 160 gb). I had been experiencing rendom graphics problems every so often in leopard, where the screen would go blue (like what it does when its starting up) for a few seconds and then go back to the desktop. Thought this might be something to do with the software or bios configuration i was using at the time. Last night this happened every 2 mins for about 20 seconds at a time. and i've concluded that this is obviously a hardware problem and is pretty obviously related to the mothjerboard as have been experiencing problems with the hard disks s well. My 500 gig backup drive has been funny as well, had to reformat it and luckily ddnt lose any data My Maxtor 80 gigabyte drive is an old one i use as an emergency OSx installation encase the main one fails for any reason, and now this is loading very slowly and sometimes only gets to the black screen before the os x desktop. I decided that this must be the motherboard malfunctioning, as so many unrelated problems are happening. So, i'm going to replace my GA-P35 -DS3P with something else and need suggestons on what to buy and what is currently good and relaible at the moment, but has at least a P35 chipset for future upgrades. i would , if possible like to avoid Jmicron IDE controllers as these really are terrible and have given me a lot of problems ( as well as about 20 waster blank CDs) I hope you guys can help and would appreciate it very much if you do Thanks p.s the reason i need a motherboard so urgently is because im in the last two months of a degree level course and need to do my work on it. the replacement from microdirect.co.uk could take up to two months and this is just unnacceptable. plus ive had to replace the ds3p before already and would like to try something else, possible asus, asrock or msi and sorry, i forgot to add that i have a 2.4ghz core 2 duo processor and so the motherboard must be socket 775 Oh, and also, i have already tried searching for three hours today to try and find a decent motherboard, but i don't know the pros and cons of the knew motherbaord chipsets that have been released since august last year, and also a lot of the asus boards seem to have Jmicron controllers which is very annoying!
13. Yeah I thought that Gigabyte were a good manufacturer, and made fairly good quality boards. I don't know whats happened to it, maybe it's had a small fault which has got worse over the time I've had it. Maybe because they are more cheaply made than other brands, they actually develop faults more quickly, I don't know. um, no actually i havent tried contacting gigabyte. The store told me that I would have to do everything through them, and I think the warranty is only with them as well. which means it could possibly be anything up to two months before I get a new one sent. I was planning to buy another so that I could have the system up and running again in a few days. cheers for trying to help Has anyone had experiences with boards other than gigabyte, which are at least P35 or knewer, which they would recommend?

Full Install Guide GA P35-DS3P

I have, i've tried iAttkos many times over and it doesnt boot on it's own. i'm not completely sure im selecting the right options. I dont know. im gunna try the kalyway DVD as soon as it's downloaded, it seems like the EFI patch install is much simpler, and they release a lot more information about their distributions (not much is more than uphuck)
15. Hi mate, Have you got Leopard to work now?I've had a very long drawn out ordeal with leopard as welli'll start from the top!Two months ago i had tiger dual booting with windows XP using acronis OS selector, on my PC.I downloaded the ToH leopard install DVD and was eager to install it. (didnt do enough reading fist i dont think) so what i did was to make a clone of my windows installation and then to remove it from OSX and format it as HFS. i then switched to the leopard install DVD and then booted it up and tried to install. I had a lot of trouble trying to get leopard to boot properly, and i think it was always just booting back into tiger. I tried using the standard DVD and doing patch, pre and post patch but could never get leopard to boot.finally in my frustration (and worry that i had lost my whole windows disk) tried installing windows again hoping that i could get it to boot, then install OS selector , and also try and put the clone disk back on.halfway through the installer, i got a blue screen of death, restarted the computermaybe i changed something in the bios, but im not sure exactly what caused the problem,,, but when i booted back up, the computer would not get past the ACHI boot screen, and wouldnt get into the bios setup either, let alone getting to boot tiger or the windows installer.so i had the motherboard sent back and replaced, and when i got it back, i switched on AHCI for mac os x, and the same problem happened again.... so i took the computer to a shop and the guy managed to get the windows logo to boot. in my confusion i switched it back into AHCI mode (it had got out of the bios loop) but the o/s still wouldn't boot, couldn't even get the windows logo up.now i've instaled window on a sepaerate drive, read about how to get the drive running properly again, but gave up and decided to recover all the data onto seperate hard disks and format the drive.I've downloaded Iatkos and burnt it to a DVD in alchohol 120% (windows) ... my computer hardware is 100% compatible with EFI but with the install DVD in (with EFI installed) my leopard installation was on a coninuos looploading darwin x86/ (spinning logo!) i've installed iatkos without EFI support and have had it running (and i think this is your problem) i HAVE TO HAVE THE INSTALL DVD in the drive for it to boot the leopard partition, and it will not boot without it.I think maybe the first time you got leopard working on your laptop you must had had the DVD in the drive, and because you weren't the you couldnt have pressed 'any key' to start up the installer, and leopard booted itself.& when you restated you couldnt get leopard running again...... not realising that iatkos is a pile of {censored}! and that no matter what you try it never seems to make the dam thing boot up (apart from with the dvd in the drive)right now i'm downloading Kalyway and im going to give that a shot, (i'm a music student and so i cant really survive without a working computer, preferrably OSX)i've tried doing a method of making the OS X partition active from the install DVD but it doesnt work, i've tried overwriting the whole hard disk with zeros before installing, but that doesn't make it boot either. (someone said thats a good idea, because sometimes previous MBR information can be left behind even after reformatting.)the only thing i don't quite understand is that i actually installed tiger again last night (the JaS 10.4.8) and that wouldn't boot either!!! windows boots fine (before i overwrote it for a fresh install)basically what i'm saying is that it might be a problem with the hard disk, although i think it's unlikely, but people have been complaining about the iatkos DVd on the forum a lot, had a lot of people with the same problem as you and me,, and maybe the kalyway DVd would help you.I'm going to give kalyway a try, because on the instructions it says that it will make the hard disk bootable for you. which could be the cause of the problems which i'm having (iatkos doesnt make it bootable ??)(if i can help you or if you can help me don't hesistate to say.) that's not much of a solution!

iATKOS boot problem

Hi guys, I've got the same problem as well I'm starting to think it must just be Iatkos's DVD the only problem is, i just installed Tiger, and that wouldn't boot without the DVD either!!! Originally i had windows XP and Tiger installed, using acronis OS selector and mac os x would always boot The only weird thing is, i could have sworn that at some point i only had tiger installed on the drive (and no acronis/windows XP) and i can't understand why the darwin bootloader fails to load. I have tried setting OSx's partition active using fdisk in the terminal, and was hoping this would help, but no bootloader. i'm downloading Kalyway now, before i did this iatkos install without EFI or wanilla kernel, i installed it with EFI emulation running the shell script and installing the vanilla kernel (and the kext below it) and the appleSMBios.Kext I had the same EFI problem as the guy at the top of this thread, with the system going round in a continuos loop have i selected the right EFI options? is iAtkos's DVD just {censored}?!!!! have i ever had a working darwin bootloader in the first place??? dunno. could it be something i Havent done? or is my hard drive just damaged ....?? god knows this is sending my brain round in circles I've read threads about people who can't get the Iatkos DVd to boot at all, lots of people have been writing that they are sick of Iatkos's DVD because it has wasted hours of their time. Has anyone had a succesfull install of Kalyway, where it loads the bootloader?? (using the darwin bootloader and EFi, and no dual boot with windows) i would really appreciate any help Gigabyte P35-DS3P XFX geforce 7600GT Q6600 2.4 gigahertz core 2 duo 2GB crucial RAM 500 Gb Samsung Spinpoint hard disk

Can't install Leopard

I've got the same problem, with the ToH Leopard install DVD it gets to the point before the installer boots, with text that showing which files and hardware are being loaded, and then just says Waiting for root device Waiting for root device Waiting for root device Waiting for root device Waiting for root device I've normally use AHCI mode so none of the posts above help. I've set it to 0-3 as the guide said and this doesnt help at all, infact turning this off doesnt help either! I know its a problem with the hard drive not being read by the installer, but i don't know what to do about it. I've got good, compatible hardware gigabtye GA-P35-DS3P Intel core2duo 2.4 gigahertz processor 2 gigs of crucial 5300 RAM one 500 gig samsung spinpoint hard drive XFX ngeforce 7600 GT gigabit 10/100/1000 PCI ethernet card I've had no problems installing Tiger form the JaS 10.4.8 and upgrading it to 10.4.10, Patching and patching the audio, and my PCI ethernet shows up with no patches required. will be grateful if anyone can help with this
18. don_regie - Thats what i wanted to ask, this is a cheaper motherboard than the P isn't it. i was wondering if anyone had tried with this motherboard and got things to work ok
19. I know this topic has probably been done to death here, but i'm building a machine from scratch for running os x as the main o/s, and i would really like some advice on motherboards and RAM from the people who know about them and have done the same. I've read that the Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 is a very good board to get and would like a good explanation as to why? i've also heard that the ASROCK 945 motherboards are good and that theyre along the same lines as the gigabyte ones. I think that the 945 chipset is probably the best to go for because i know that the intel macs (well most of them, my macbook certainly does) use this chipset, I've also read posts about people using the p965 chipset and wondered what compatability issues could arise when using this instead of a 945g. my plan is to get a motherboard like the above and 2GB of RAM (maybe 4GB if i can afford it), some people where saying Kingston RAM is a good brand to get, i know my Macbook takes Kingston RAM and is this the brand of ram that the other macs use or are there other high quality alternatives? I've already bought a Intel core 2 Duo 2.4 G/Hz processor and a Liteon DVD writer to burn my DVDs, so i to just find the RAM and motherboard at this stage so that i can start putting this machine together in my old computer case, until i can spare some more cash for a new one. (obviously the components are most improtant and i'd like to spend my earnings buying decent hardware, before getting a new case later on when ive got some more cash.) Advice is much appreciated. i was also planning to get a Geforce card, (not sure which yet, maybe the 7300 or 7600) and two 250 gig western digital caviars. Any advice on these is aslo welcome. Thanks
20. Thanks a lot guys for your help, some very good advice there! i'll keep posting on this thread as i buy components and keep you updated :-) Think i'll probably go for the RAM this week as unfortunatley i can't afford to spend 100 quid on a new mobo right now, but that Elixir RAM sounds very tempting...
21. Thanks mate. Currently my budget is whatever i get from week to week, im usually able to spend around £100 a week (200 US dollars) buying computer components (i'm a music student doing a summer job), and i recon i'll be able to do that for 3 to four weeks, and will be gettin a student loan in September. I already have a Macintosh keyboard, an alright widescreen TFT monitor and microsoft 2 button mouse (which is essential for os x), as well as the other things i've bought recently (DVD burner and proc) so i recon about $600 - $800 (US) over the next month. i've already got a microsoft 2 button mouse, macintosh keyboard and 19" widescreen TFT monitor, and a ATX case and 500 watt power supply from my old computer, so the budget is solely for internal hardware. (unless i can't use the power supply, which im yet to find out about).Just a few questions about your post.....Why use Crucial Ballistix? Why are people starting to prefer gigabyte above asus?I'm ready and have the cash to spend about 160 USD on a motherboard this weekend, are there many other alternatives than the GA P35-DS3P?i would prefer something a bit cheaper, as english prices are more expensive than in the states the price of that mobo here is $200 + P&P, and i've got a work experience week comin up next week, so need to save a bit for that.if i was going to buy this board i'd probably have to wait at least a week... the reason i was considering the mobo this week was that i saw the 945 boards are about 50 - 75 pounds (100 - 150 USD) and that would fit with other things i need to buy this week.I'd like to buy the motherboard, RAM and hard drives in the next few weeks, and then the G/fx card basically when i can (hopefully sooner than later)... was thinking maybe the RAM and hard disks would be the thing to buy this week, and a decent motherboard two weeks from now, when ive got a bigger pay packet to spend.
22. Cheers mate, i'll have a look now.Alright mate, had a look at P35 chipset motherboards. They look good. How could i be sure though that this will be compatible with mac os x (as there is only one board mentioned with this chipset, and it appears to have had a lot of problems) I know intel chipsets are best for compatibilty, but i know that most of the macs use intel gma 950 graphics, which would mean a 945 chipset (correct me if i'm totally wrong), so that would mean compatability issues. does uphucks install dvd have support for the P35 chipset? would i be walkin up {censored} creek (so to speak) if i bought one?I want to have the least number of issues when installing os x as possible really because i'm not amazing when it comes to doing things in the terminal, (i want to try and build the most compatible machine possbile so i don't get 2 many probs)Also, what brand motherboard do you think is the best to get?
