  1. thanks, will do. So long as I don't plug anything into FW, USB, its stable...although now that I think of it, both things (camera, migliaHD mini) were video related...I had a FW HD plugged into it and it was working just fine, playing songs, transferring files etc. I have the MSI 9600GT OC card... may need to read around a bit to make sure it's not the VC. Oddly, if I plugged in isight again, I'd see the video just fine again, just lost keyboard/mouse.... plugging either in/out didn't bring them back. Gotta review console for errors I sorta glanced last night before giving up for the night. Tried to ssh but connection was refused... Thanks again for everything! I'm learning quite a bit!
  2. system.kext was the correct one, changed seatbelt.kext (v 107.10) to match 9.5.0 voodoo kernel and wouldn't you know it? downloaded 143MB Netbean dmg, and mounted and system *appears* stable....so far. I'll test some more as I use it. Any suggestions on what to test...some common things perhaps? I don't want to cry Eureka just yet that's EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI, no flags, running 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel. If my testing goes well, I'll make a package extension install. Bugs 1. iSight (fw one), crashed my keyboard and mouse
  3. yeah, you're right, after reading this I realized that after I downgraded to kernel 9.5.0 I still have seatbelt version 107.12 (from 10.5.8) vanilla kernel. ugh. changing them now.... *sigh*
  4. ok, 64.0 here I go then nope, no difference. here is a summary: the three times I tested downloading (forcedeth, 62.13, 64) forcedeth: KP immediately after opening a browser window, but not so with cpus=1... 62.13: showed KP at what appeared to be the end of the download, but once I rebooted, only 18MB seemed to have been written... 62.13 recognized the 2nd GigE ethernet port, both w/diff MAC addresses that match. 64.0: same as KP, but startted to verify the download and then when mounting began KP. Upon reboot, 143.4 / 143.3 MB sized file downloaded. (huh?) Tried to check if it was a timing issue, perhaps too many cpus... rebooted with cpus=1 just to check it...died again when it tried to mount the downloaded DMG KP says: BSD process name corresponding to current thread: diskimages-helpe nah, this has to do with mounting drives... I just tried to mount a 21MB dmg and ...KP this isn't network related...
  5. ok thanks, i'm going to try that one right now. I just rebooted with only -v and confirmed that it only crashes after I open a browser window. I'm able to see 4 cores in system profiler and 4GB. Gimme a sec and I'll let you know what happens. (so close yet so far!) re 0.62.13n: just downloaded netbeans ide, 148MB @ 1.7MB/sec average...all was going well then it KP at the very end as soon as it completed. The good news is that the new driver recognized my second ethernet port! should I try 64.0, this or this one?
  6. Hi Verdant! It's so hard to give up when the install is so close! Well, it's definetly a CPU issue because using CPUs=1 still boots fine and is perfectly stable. But now I've lost ethernet, even went back and installed the nForceLAN.kext and repaired permissions...system preferences says cable isn't plugged in... the error said something about fsevent? There are just so many lines so fast I don't really see much in the logs other than kextd in crashreporter. read in here that forcedeth kext is the default lan network for this MB when I installed it I got LAN back.
  7. ok, so I deleted (forcedeth, nvenet, nFEC was not there ), rebooted, -v -f -s, removed Extensions in /S/L now I'm stuck on some crashreport loop...resetting IOCatalogue... I've been trying to search for this error here in the boards... any ideas?
  8. Hi Verdant! Below is the image...from console it had repeated errors about the cpu count... I had no mounted drives, had just opened system profiler before going to browser and trying to open history to get to this thread and respond to you. PS. thanks so much for all your help!
  9. so I was about to post EUREKA! when I opened the browser and wham! KP! so sad hahaha System profiler, for the whopping one minute it was working showed 4 cores... yup, my voodoo kernel is --> wheel 6183080 Dec 6 2008 mach_kernel.Voodoo deleted the other two...now what? fassl's DSDT...done voodoo 9.5 ...dond (Darwin Batmac.local 9.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.5.0: Sat Dec 6 19:39:54 IST 2008; Voodoo; Release 1.0 :xnu-1228.7.58/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386) repaired permissions ...done nForceATA.kext ...done plist modification... done is this where I am supposed to lose all hope? it runs so nice and stable at 1 cpu...so close yet so far.
  10. no, no extra folder (weird too cause I asked in iATKOS to make one). I was just playing with Lizard, used it to install Chameleon RC3, and fooled around with it and made a boot.iso. Insided was a good plist generated! I'm going to repair permissions and reboot...wish me luck! lol
  11. well, I went as far as 4. steps...then system froze after sudo touch. Kept popping up that it couldnt' read Extensions, then permissions stopped them, then touch froze it. Rebooted into safe (v f s flags) tried to edit boot.plist...was empty. Rebooted now with just -v mach_kernel.Voodoo... KP Rebooted with -v cpus=1, thing boots. I'm confused as heck. I thought it needed com.apple.Boot.plist to boot, but when I do sudo nano /Volumes/OSX1058/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist the darned file is empty. Where am I going wrong here? here is my root contents:
  12. so progress... I have LAN able to download all of XCode...all 2.73GB of it without crashing! Figured out what was causing a freeze was that I had to reset the BIOS to the 790i Ultra board...they stupidly have the default FSB lower than the memory bus. I dawned on me when I booted into Ubuntu and *it* froze...then I remembered the settings I had to put wayback when I got the board. Got all 4GB of ram. Still have CPUs=1 flag issue. But I'm still running 9.8.0 from an image I took before trying voodoo kernel. How can I make sure I install the voodoo kernel correctly without the plist issues? Could someone just step by step walk this "geek chick" by the hand? Cause after all of this, what I'll do it create DVD torrent for all others with this board and thus give back to the community
  13. I finally saw it quickly flash some error, something about plist was all i could read before it goes black. So sad and frustrating
  14. 9.5 killed it after chamelon2 comes up, I hit F8, then try any flags at all and it just flashes and goes black. why is 790i series so finicky?
  15. great! got the maxmem part fixed. Running at 4GB. DSDT patch didn't work though. sigh... could it be a permissions deal? -rw-r--r-- 1 root staff 19326 Oct 20 20:30 DSDT.aml not sure what the staff group is...but root owns it at least. n00b question. How do I remove voodoo kernel and put in EFI+vanilla? wait, I think I'm not running voodoo anymore b/c uname -a shows Darwin localhost 9.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.8.0: Wed Jul 15 16:55:01 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1228.15.4~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 I guess the update to 10.5.8 did that? I'm a bit confused now
