Thanks, I was looking if someone is running a DELL 780 with GT610 so a ready to go EFI folder would have been easier for me. I think most of the stuff probably is unchanged from 10.13 but I wanted something ready to deploy... if there is anyone running this config.

    Hi all,
I finally found some time to install (to try to install I'd better say) ML 10.8 on my Toshiba R830-1GZ

    The specs:

    Chipset : Intel HM65
    Intel Core i5 2450M @ 2500 MHz
    6GB DDR3-SDRAM
    Intel® HD 3000 Graphics Family PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0126&SUBSYS_00051179&REV_09\3&11583659&0&10
    Hard Disk : Hitachi (640GB)
    DVD-Rom Drive : MAT{censored}A DVD-RAM UJ8A2ES
    Toshiba Internal LCD - 13.3"
Intel 82579V Ethernet Controller PCI (VEN_8086&DEV_1503)
Wifi + BT Combo card AR9002WB-1NG
AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCIe) VEN_168C&DEV_002B
    AR3011 0cf3:3005 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR3011 Bluetooth
    Audio Realtek ALC269 HDAUDIO (VEN_10EC&DEV_0269)

    Installation:

    - Create an USB bootable drive with 10.8 and the usual needed Extra extensions.. google how to do it.. maybe "tony usb osx 10.8 install" is a good search.
    - Boot the usb with the -x -v flags otherwise you will not be able to the see the installer
    - Install everything, partition the drive etc..
    - Boot again from the USB selecting the hard disk partition this time(since there is no boot loader on the disk yet) with the -s -v -x boot flags
    - Once in single mode, launch the last two commands suggested from the console in order to mount the osx partition, then cd to /System/Library/Extensions and delete AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext (rm -R AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext)
    - Boot again using the USB and selecting the hard disk partition with the -v flag
    - Install 10.8.2 combo update from website not from App Store and DON'T REBOOT
    - Navigate to again to /System/Library/Extensions and delete again AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext
    - Reboot and again use the USB and selecting the hard disk partition with the -v flag

Now is the time to add boot loader and extensions.. here I suggest first to Enable Remote Login from the sharing menu… so if your screen goes black you can understand if there's something going wrong sshing into your machine from another one.
Also it is boring but add a kext or a section of kext one by one so if something goes wrong you can always boot in single mode and revert the changes(MAKE ALWAYS backups of the originals!),

especially add as last step the CPUs one at last and use NullCPUPowermanagement.kext from your USB bootable drive Extra FOLDER throughout all the install process

    - Install the Chameleon Bootloader many options here.. I've used the installer from Tony.. if you've found the website before..
    - Add the kexts from the zip attached.. I would start with the VoodooPS2 one so you can get mouse and keyboard working without booting from usb, also before rebooting copy the Extra from the zip over your /Extra folder….

then add kext by kext and reboot after each one or each device section in order as I said to understand if things go wrong what went wrong.

All the time you install a kext please repair the permissions of the /System/Library/Extensions folder running from a terminal:

    sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
    sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/

Also another IMPORTANT thing is when you will be adding/playing with kext always override the default flags when booting with -f -v so the Kernel will actually re-read all the kexts in Extensions..

ALSO DISABLE SLEEP TIMER in Power Saving prefs.

    Works:
    -Sleep!!!
    -Ethernet
    -Wifi
-Trackpad multitouch (tested 2 fingers gestures)
-USB3 (before installing OSX it may be worth to upgrade the USB3 controller firmware, since I had an old one and I always had connections problems in Windows...before the update)
    - Microphone, HeadPhones, Speakers, Line in(mono: it combines both inputs..not a priority for me at the moment)
    - Brightness Controls (Fn+F12, Pause)
    - CPU Power Management
    - SD Card
    - HDMI with Audio(tested at 1080p)

    What's left to do:

    - Brightness levels max/min after display sleep differs (workaround on post #12)
    - Bluetooth.. may be a little bit difficult since there's a method out there for AR3011 but the card at least shows up under USB on that machines (like if you boot your Toshiba in Ubuntu Live) so not sure if there's a way to turn the AR3011 on somewhere with keys or DSDT…

    Partially Working

    - VGA out... read below... it is working if you connect a monitor before starting the system, not much control on resolution...

I'm writing all of this so hopefully we will be in a good number and we'll discover how to fix these last little things.

Sorry, that is my mistake. I forgot to take out all my debug messages I inserted to be able to tell where is the error.

I will take them out and attach the version for deployment.

Here is the IOAudioFamily.kext without debug options:
    IOAudioFamily.kext-DEPLOYMENT.zip

I used the VoodooPS2Controller.kext but I did not remove the AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext only the ApplePS2Controller.kext.
Yes, I did install the daemon as they suggested, but it was working without it the same way. The keyboard shortcuts are the same as with ApplePS2 ( Fn + 3/4 for sound, Fn + F12/Break for brightness).

I don't get any errors  after sleep, no mouse or trackpad errors either.

As for the brightness: the fix you also implemented maintains my brightness after sleep. Using sleepdisplay I can make just the monitor sleep and at wake the brightness is where it should be. I have a LID wake implemented as I told you. This is what I use:   Device (LID) { Name (_HID, EisaId ("PNP0C0D")) Method (_LID, 0, NotSerialized) { Return (LIDS) } Name (_PRW, Package (0x02) { 0x1D, 0x04 }) Method (_PSW, 1, NotSerialized) { If (Arg0) { //_WAK (Arg0) //ez a sleep //Notify (SLPB, 0x80) } Else { _WAK (Arg0) //ez a wake } Store (Arg0, EWLD) } } This way the laptop will wake up if the LID is opened but will not sleep if it is closed (I like it this way).

There is maybe a small increase in maximum brightness after sleep, but if you modify the brightness before sleep or after sleep, it will  go back to the correct value.
If I use the minimum brightness (that is no backlight in my case) before sleep or a quarter more it will keep it after sleep.

Whenever someone has time, can you write a quick install note and create an archive with all the kext needed? (and if DSDT/SSDT are the same use the ones from the first post)

Would be very nice to edit the first post and stick the 10.9 install details in that too.

    Thanks

Strange.. try with a grey background and set the brightness to medium.. you don't need a camera, it is visible with normal eyes.

What settings do you have under Battery on the BIOS? (you can set a default brightness for the monitor there)

I've added a new kext pack.

    Newer DSDT(thanks glcnacy/macandrea)
Both SSDT for the CPUs we have.
    Newer E1000
Kext for audio after sleep (thanks glcnacy)
    Newer E1000 driver
    VoodooPS2 instead of ApplePS2Controller.

Are you using only VoodooPS2 or did you use the entire package? getting rid of AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext as well not only ApplePS2Controller.kext?

Are you using as well the daemon like they suggested?
sudo cp org.rehabman.voodoo.driver.Daemon.plist /Library/LaunchDaemons Also how the fn keys mapping behave?

Any problems so far with trackpad/mouse/keyboard after sleep?
How did you fix the brightness value? That is something I need as well

This is working for me as well on 10.8.2

question is this verbose output normal? (seems to happen everytime I change volume)

    Great job cele!

I will give your AppleSNB a try, to see what changes.

In the meantime I have figured out the problem with audio after sleep.

Here http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1970-fix-for-audio-issue-after-sleep-in-alc269/ EMlyDinEsH posted patched IOAudioFamily.kext with sources.
I tried all of the posted versions but none worked. After waiting and hoping that somebody will solve the problem, I started messing around with the sources in xcode.
It turns out that the problem was that the original device path was wrong for my system. Originally it was:
IORegistryEntry *hdaDeviceEntry = IORegistryEntry::fromPath("IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/HDEF"); When I checked in ioreg, the path was different. I corrected the sources for my path and compiled. The resulting kext was working as expected. Below is the corrected line.
IORegistryEntry *hdaDeviceEntry = IORegistryEntry::fromPath("IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0/AppleACPIPCI/HDEF@1B"); I attached my version of the compiled kext. It is for speaker at node 0x14.

Sorry! I could not upload the compiled kext, it keeps saying upload failed.

Sound it's working (with headphones) there's something to check on the speaker output.. anyway something we can check later... main issue seems targeted!
Did you start already? If not I believe is all to do with the ACPI kexts.

    Delete from Extensions(if any)

    AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext

    AppleACPIPlatform.kext

    AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext

and use the ones in attachment.(usual kext cache rebuild and -f boot)

also make sure all he boxes in System Preferences/Energy Saver are checked(after applying the new kext and reboot)

    ------------------------------
There's also to address the issue...after the sleep you get a lot of "bbbbbbbbbbb" if a terminal or textedit is open.. luckily there's should be a fix for this as well.

    some USB3.0 news...

I admit I'm not really around the new things popping here and there on the OSX86 scene, i'm happily running my 10.8.2 and focusing on other things. Anyway I did a quick search to see if there was a new PXHCD.kext out with some fixes but nope... instead much better i found this:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/genericusbxhci/files/
    http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286860-genericusbxhci-usb-30-driver-for-os-x-with-source/

I've included the USB3 kext in the archive of the first post(GenericUSBXHCI_1.2.5)

I've just installed it 30min ago, and system seems fine. I can plug/unplug mouse, USB keys etc and no spamming in system.log or CPU going crazy it seems fine... Have a go it might finally make your extra USB port work properly.

PS I don't have USB3 devices here so I've tested only with 2.0

Ok. I've managed to get pixel clock profile from Windows using PowerStrip.
After that i installed SwitchResX and added Custom Resolution with this clocks to Internal LCD and restarted. With this settings it's a little bit comfortable to my eyes i think.

I've attached custom resolution settings that i use:

Also there is some noise from place where cooler fan is placed but it's not from cooler. I think it's a problem with power management and that noise is randomly appears when using network through wifi/ethernet and virtual machine. This noise regularly appears when scrolling web page in Safari/Chrome browser.

And there is artifacts appears on screen after some time and in VMWare Fusion.

I think i need to sell this laptop

P.S. Also I've included my own calibrated display profile and dsdt that i extracted and patched myself with some modifications from cele_82's dsdt just for archive purposes.

For those who wants to make their own DSDT (and for me if i forgot something in future):
    1. Download DSDT Editor. Google 'DSDT Editor' and use 1st link to insanelymac.
    2. Extract dsdt when boot without any other dsdt in bootloader.
    3. Find all first-level scopes in tree that starts with "\". rename all of them removing first character:eg "\_SB" to "_SB".
    4. Find in tree _SB/PCI0/GFX0 and find scope inside that ends with "PCI0". It should be corrected to "^^PCI0"
    5. Apply all patches from downloaded DSDT Editor from Sandy Bridge folder.
    6. Try to compile. There will be about hundred errors. Find error that ends with "min/max". There should be two errors of that kind. Click on first of them. There should be code:

    DWordMemory (ResourceProducer, PosDecode, MinFixed, MaxFixed, Cacheable, ReadWrite, 0x00000000, // Granularity 0x00000000, // Range Minimum 0xFEAFFFFF, // Range Maximum 0x00000000, // Translation Offset 0x00000000, // Length ,, _Y0D, AddressRangeMemory, TypeStatic)
    replace to

    DWordMemory (ResourceProducer, PosDecode, MinFixed, MaxFixed, Cacheable, ReadWrite, 0x00000000, // Granularity 0x00000000, // Range Minimum 0xFEAFFFFF, // Range Maximum 0x00000000, // Translation Offset 0xFEB00000, // Length ,, _Y0D, AddressRangeMemory, TypeStatic)
(//length parameter only corrected to 0xFEB00000)
    For second error replace

    DWordMemory (ResourceProducer, PosDecode, MinFixed, MaxFixed, Cacheable, ReadWrite, 0x00000000, // Granularity 0xFED40000, // Range Minimum 0xFED44FFF, // Range Maximum 0x00000000, // Translation Offset 0x00000000, // Length ,, , AddressRangeMemory, TypeStatic)
    for

    DWordMemory (ResourceProducer, PosDecode, MinFixed, MaxFixed, Cacheable, ReadWrite, 0x00000000, // Granularity 0xFED40000, // Range Minimum 0xFED44FFF, // Range Maximum 0x00000000, // Translation Offset 0x00005000, // Length ,, , AddressRangeMemory, TypeStatic)
    (length param is replaced)

7.Find _DSM method in _SB/PCI0/GFX0 in DSDT from cele_82(first post) and copy it to _SB/PCI0/GFX0.
(The _DSM method must be only one if there is old _DSM method you need to add to it missing content from first post's DSDT)
    This will enable graphics.
8.Find _DSM method in _SB/PCI0/HDEF in DSDT from cele_82(first post) and copy it to _SB/PCI0/HDEF.
(The _DSM method must be only one if there is old _DSM method you need to add to it missing content from first post's DSDT)
    This will enable sound.
9.Compile and save file to /Extra/DSDT.aml

Sleep... well is not my strength we need someone to have a look at it, unfortunately it requires time to test which I don't have and knowledge about DSDT hacking which I don't have either... but since yours boots in 15" I guess is ok for you at the moment. If you want try to open a topic or research about it.. I think is not a super major thing to enable but needs someone that knows where to check/look.

I wasn't happy with the VoodooSDHC... it worked without troubles with a 2GB SD a while ago, now (at home) with my 8GB SD it can't copy... basically it hangs after the first megabytes of a file...

In ubuntu same SD work perfectly...

I don't use so often SDs anymore... once a year probably.. so I've removed the extension and installed Ubuntu on a single 2GB FAT32 partition on the harddrive in live=mode... so I can easily choose at the Darwin bootloader.

DSDT made by Silvestr (or sourced somewhere don't know) but is the only thing i didn't touch... Audio driver for Mic instead yes I spent a day to get it working and find good gain values for it.

What kernel panics? on which ports? what version is your PXHCD? 10.8 or 10.1.11?
When those happen? when unplugging devices?

PS If you get news on the sleep issue feel free to write, we need more Toshiba owners to comment this

about this do you mean AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext? Did you have to delete it to boot and then replace it with the one from the zip archive of the first post?

Can you write a list of steps to upgrade to 10.8.3? then I will put in the first post.(with credits)

I've been playing with Linux VMs in Parallels today... seems parallels 7 trigger a Kernel Panic on AppleACPIBatteryManager or AppleACPIPlatform when booting without cache (-f)... wondering why but when booting normal is completely fine.(tried several times)

Those two kext are from Lion I believe, needed just to show the battery but I thought to write this as a memo for me or anyone else using Parallels.

i'll may write something quickly but the install itself it is standard so if you search how to create an USB installer for Mountain Lion... you'll get the Toshiba installed booting with -x -v (the installer)

Than add the kexts one section at time so you can understand if something creates kernel panics.

    And that's it..

    Hi all,
I finally found some time to install (to try to install I'd better say) ML 10.8 on my Toshiba R830-1GZ

Many many thanks to Silvestr/glcnacy/mtek/macandrea for the teamwork!

    10.9 guide here!

PLEASE LEAVE A FEEDBACK IF YOU HAVE R830... WE NEED TO BE MORE TO FIND OUT THE LAST BITS...

I've added a new "pack" to download with almost everything avaiable at the moment.

PS you can get rid of AHCI 3rd party kext if you patch IOAHCIFamily.kext .. the boot will be faster as well.(1-2sec)

cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS sudo mv IOAHCIBlockStorage IOAHCIBlockStorage.orig sudo cp IOAHCIBlockStorage.orig IOAHCIBlockStorage sudo /usr/bin/perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x4a\x00\x00\xeb\x03|\x8b\x4a\x00\x00\xe8\x01|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage sudo /usr/bin/perl -pi -e 's|\x74\x0e\x48\x8d\x3d\x72\x92\x00\x00|\xbf\xc8\x00\x00\x00\x90\x90\x90\x90|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions Will write a quick guide soon....
