  2. I have the same problem. I have tried almost every kext I could find, but nothing seems to work. So I don't have a solution for you
  3. I had Lion 10.7.2 up and running without a problem (well, actually, sleep and shutdown didn't work properly, but I didn't mind). But somehow, after a manual shutdown too many, my install didn't work anymore (would just hang somewhere), i decided to upgrade to the next release. I have 2 other Macs, so I tried the myHack method + a finalising/kext installer software from an unsupported site as that worked on the 10.7.2 install too. But I'm unable to get the Marvell network card to work. On 10.7.2, I would change some strings in the AppleYukon2.kext in the IONetworkingFamily kext and the card would work. But this time that only stalled the boot process. When booting with -v it didn't become apparent where the problem was as I didn't see an obvious error. I tried installing the 10.7.2 kext from a backup, no go, then I tried this kext from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/35-marvell-yukon-88e8056-108-1085/ in /Extra, but that didn't seem to do anything. I then replaced the kext in S/L/E, but the system would hang again. I even reinstalled 10.8.5 and made a DSDT file for my system (normally, I didn't have to), and applied patches for my motherboard (from http://olarila.com/forum/packs.php). But that way, I don't see a network card and if I try any of the above methods to get it to work, the same thing happens. So I'm a bit lost now. My Hackintosh is running fine, although without any network. It's driving me mad Even so mad that I booted into my existing Windows 7 install to see if the network card didn't die. It worked fine there. Bummer. My hardware: Asus P5E motherboard (with unsupported audio chip and Marvell 88E8056 network), Intel X38 chipset. Intel Q6600 2.4GHz@3.6GHz (I also tried without overclock). nVidia GT8800. Crucial M4 boot disk.

    The black screen I got went away once I connected my TV via HDMI. So it seems to be due to the DVI->VGA convertor I use, this interferes with the detection of the screen. I'm happy now, now I only need to find an IR receiver that works with OSX...

    I tried the 3650 installer on my Asus 3650 silent with 256 GDDR3 ram. The installation worked, but after a reboot, all I got was a black screen. If I use VNC to connect to the PC (from my macbook) I can see the desktop and the res is now at 1280x1024 (although my display only supports upto 1280x768). Can this be because I use a DVI->VGA convertor to connect to my Panasonic plasma screen? This is on a JaS 2.0 install OS-X10.5.2 I tried changing the res back to 1024x768 which the plasma should be able to display, but the blackness didn't go away. VNC showed the changed res though.
  6. A little update. After upgrading my network (switch, cables) to gigabit, I found that the onboard NIC wouldn't go into GBit mode. The link always showed up as 100Mbit in the device info. This was also true in windows XP with the latest drivers. I tried the cable on another system and this could do 1000Mbit, so it's not the cable. I got a new network card from Sitecom (LN027, with a realtek RTL8169 chipset) and it has solved the network crashes and enabled me to use the Gigabit network interface. It worked out of the box in OS-X. So it seems the NIC on board the P5K-E is rubbish, or maybe broken? Anyways, I'm enjoying the GBit experience now (55MB/s).

  8. I have the exact same errors, only I'm using an Asus P5B-MX board with the 946GC chipset and ICH7 controller. I think our problem is the built-in videocard. I'm waiting for my Radeon 3650 to come in. Untill then, I'm stuck using Linux.
  9. Dumbfounded.... why would you go through all that hassle of sparing the rear panels and then cut up the bottom.
  10. The RAM blocks are from aqua-computer.de and are 35 euro each. You also have to order some heat transfering pads or use double sided DIMMs.
  11. Yes, there are waterblocks on the RAM. They tend to get very hot when there's not much airflow in the case. Besides, I had them lying around and selling them would not give me a lot of ROI.
  12. I did reuse the fan grill. I put 2x 80mm Papst fans on it The back of the case looks nice with it: I also put a lot of watercooling stuff in the case: Runs 10.5.2 now. Now, if only I could get rid of that 3.2 GB memory limit
  13. Apple G5 Case Mod (Suggestions, please)

    I reused the standoffs from the original G5 case and glued them to the case. Check my report in the sticky thread! BUT.... you're not going to be able to fit the PSU where you have drawn it, there's not enough room. Also, you're using a full-sized ATX mobo (like me). If you're not using an ATX tray like above, you'll not be able to use some of the PCI/PCIe slots (like me).
  14. Inspired by some of you in this topic (and others, and the beautiful powermac case), i too bought a G5 case second hand and started to modify it. I see that people have difficulties mounting the mobo to the case. Here's what I did: With some pliers, I removed the original standoffs from the case. This is very easy, just twist a bit and they will come off. I attached these standoffs to the mobo using the original screws as I was unable to use other screws. These Apple screws seem to be non-metric thread or something. Luckily, there were enough screws that I could use. Then I used a metal epoxy to glue the standoffs to the case. After the epoxy dried, you're left with the standoffs in perfect position: Enlarged: I test-glued one of the standoffs to another aluminium strip to test the strength of the bond. It was pretty strong, but not as strong as the original. So I epoxied a metal washer around the standoff to reinforce it: Enlarged: To align the mobo properly, I installed a PCI card and screwed it to the slot when the epoxy was drying. Since I am using a full length ATX mobo, the case was not big enough. I don't really have use for the PCIe 1x slots, so I was content with not having them connect to a slot in the case. I can also not use the leftmost PCI slot, but who cares. At least I can use the 2 PCIe 16x slots:) I also was planning to reuse the powersupply, but after searching the web and not finding a usable pinout, I disassembled the original PSU and grafted one from Coolermaster in the original case. Here it is with the guts removed: The insides of the Coolermaster PSU: Like a glove... Mounted the 12cm fan in the PSU case like this and made plexiglas (I had that lying around so i used that) guides for the air-intake of the fan: Then it was time to make some holes for the ATX mobo's rear connections. I didn't want to hack the complete rear of the case, so I made some discrete holes. The one up-top is for the fan-controller, since I didn't want to spoil the front of the case: Before: After: The distance from the case to the mobo was around 20mm, so I used 20x20mm aluminium L-profile to span the gap: And epoxied it into place: After it dried, I could assemble the rig.
