1. I recently upgraded my hackintosh build from this setup to a new i5 setup. This board will however run OSX86 vanilla. It is fully compatible with the Catri BIOS for DSDT-less installs, however due to it being discontinued I flashed it back to stock. It does have the latest BIOS from gigabyte, though. I had a machine running with these parts vanilla for many years. They are still in totally working order, all you need is a box, some drives, a PCI-E x16 GPU and a power supply, and you can use Kakewalk (available in this forum) for a very easy installation! I have the following, I would prefer to sell them as a kit if possible, because I have appropriate packaging for the motherboard (original box) and it'd be safest to ship it with the CPU seated. I have a box for the RAM, but finding a way to ship the CPU may be difficult. I have some of the original board's accessories, but no Serial ATA cables from it. (they're in use ) 4x2GB (8GB) DDR2 800 MHz (Mix of Crucial and Wintec RAM. Same freq, same CAS latency (6). Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16 GHz (I have overclocked this a small bit, I got it to 4 GHz relatively stable, but someone with more smarts or some better RAM could probably get more out of it than I did) It is E0 stepping. and of course, the EP45-DS3L ver. 1.0. There are no problems I know of with the board itself, aside from the general Gigabyte attitude with hard resets. (even my new board does this). This board was literally one of the easiest hackintosh jobs I ever had. Buyer pays shipping, I am in southern California. Make me an offer! Pictures: 2 RAM chips: 2 more RAM chips: CPU (those streaks on the heat spreader are mostly streaks of the old cooling compound. The camera makes them look way worse than they are.) This reads: INTEL ® © '06 (this was purchased in early 2008) E8500 INTEL ® CORE2DUO SL89K MALAY 3.16 GHZ/6M/1333/06 Q827A684 Much better CPU shot: I need to clean the board, and I will post a picture after it has been cleaned.
2. Radeon 4850HD problems

Strangely, booting it up to Windows and back to OS X seems to have fixed the problem. OS X is also now detecting the right amount of RAM for the card. Must have been some sort of NVRAM setting the CCC on windows cleared out or something, but it's working great now.
3. Radeon 4850HD problems

Hi. I upgraded to 10.6.5 because seemingly I couldn't upgrade over 10.6.0 and have working graphics.. It looks like I'm close though. Safeboot can see the info for the GPU, I have Chameleon RC5 installed, graphicsenabler on and my device and vender ID's are in ati4800controller.kext's info.plist. Just to make sure: <key>IOName</key> <string>ATI4800Controller</string> <key>IOPCIMatch</key> <string>0x94421002 0x944a1002</string> ATI Radeon 4850 Series: Chipset Model: ATI Radeon 4850 Series Type: GPU Bus: PCIe Slot: Slot-1 PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x9442 Revision ID: 0x0000 ROM Revision: 113-B7710C-176 EFI Driver Version: 01.00.318 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1400 x 1050 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Display Connector: Boot.plist: <dict> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1680x1050x32</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=x86_64</string> <key>PciRoot</key> <string>1</string> <key>Theme</key> <string>Default</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>3</string> </dict> Safe boot works, obviously, but if I boot normally when I think it is supposed to change the resolution, it just scrambles the screen. The dongle trick doesn't work here. Anyone have any better ideas? I'm also stuck at 1400x1050, that might just be a restriction of the generic driver. I just noticed - it seems to be detecting 256MB for a 512MB card, my card is a Gigabyte GA-R485ZL-512H. The DEVID's and VEN's match windows' detections. (1002 and 9442). I am not sure how I'd fix that though. 4. Radeon 4850HD issues w/ 10.6.4

I just tried a fresh install of OS X 10.6.3 with thelaughingman's instructions, they didn't work. I didn't get any normal boots out of it, I installed a 10.6.2 combo update I had on my USB drive, and then to 10.6.3 from a dmg I downloaded, I then installed the kexts and patches as per the instructions, and I still get a corrupted screen on normal boot, regardless of whether there's a DVI adapter or not. I guess I'm going to have to find a copy of 10.6.5
5. Radeon 4850HD issues w/ 10.6.4

I'll look around for a copy of 10.6.5 tomorrow.
6. Radeon 4850HD issues w/ 10.6.4

Should I try reinstalling from scratch and not doing anything before upgrading to 10.6.4?
7. Radeon 4850HD issues w/ 10.6.4

I installed the latest chameleon with Lizard, and lizard and the boot loader work (adding -f -v to lizard's box made it boot with verbose and force), I also moved legacy4800 to E/E, no change. still the flashing static screen. I still have to use VGA through the dongle. I'm so close, it looks like everything is working through the static! if that {censored} were just gone, it would be fine. I tried to check the logs, but the flashing and movement of the static gave me a headache.
8. Radeon 4850HD issues w/ 10.6.4

Nope, no change. I had to go back to the DVI>VGA>VGA dongle, I tried DVI directly and DVI and the dongle in the other port, no change I installed that kext with kext helper and did what you said with Lizard, but it doesnt look like lizard detected my boot loader properly: My GPU is dual DVI w/s-video a Gigabyte GV-R485ZL-512H (ATI 4850HD 512 MB dual DVI
9. Radeon 4850HD issues w/ 10.6.4

Excuse the cross post from the Kakewalk thread in the Installation forum, (the original post has been replaced with a link to this one) but I thought this would be more appropriate here. I installed 10.6.4, then ran #####, and installed the 48xx injector and the 48xx 10.6.4 patch, and rebooted, the system boots, then the monitor shuts off and the system continues booting. What do I do now? Just tried booting with -f, no difference. Wow, this is the wierdest thing I've ever seen in my life i just tried the DVI-VGA dongle in the 2nd DVI port, with DVI to the monitor in the first, and I get the desktop, but every second or so, the screen goes to static, then I get the desktop, then it's static for a few seconds, then the desktop. I'm going to try switching them around, and the VGA port itself. I just swapped them around and managed to open the display control panel through the static it looks like it's corrupting the DVI signal itself, because if i set a lower resolution that's letterboxed, the static is full screen. I'm going to try the VGA in the dongle. VGA works, but the resolution list skips over my display's native resolution of 1680x1050. Any ideas on how to get DVI or my native resolution working? Anyone have any good suggestions how I can get my DVI back? I really don't like the VGA colour profile (lol) or the strange resolutions. I think there's a table somewhere where you can set what resolutions that VGA lists? Everything else seems to work.
10. I moved this post to the graphics forum, thinking that someone there might know better. if you know anything that might help, please check out my thread. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=231661
11. Alright, downloading the combo update, will try! Thanks!
12. Hi, Just got a new Gigabyte GV-R485ZL-512H (ATI Radeon 4850HD 512 MB) to replace my old 7600GS. I have a GA-EP45-DS3L. I can install Kakewalk fine, even get perfect video (native res, acceleration ,QE/CI, transparency, resolution changes) on 10.6.0 with the ATI.app tool that comes with Kakewalk. I can not update at all. I've tried: 10.6.1 update 10.6.2 combo update 10.6.4 combo update (via software update) and every time I update at all, I am left with either a white or garbled screen. Safe Mode still works, I have to boot the installer, and the system in Safe Boot until I run ATI.app after getting the boot loader installed. Then I can boot in normal mode. Can anyone give me any advice on getting my system to update past 10.6? At least to 10.6.2? (Safe Mode = -x flag in boot loader)
13. My Sony IDE burner is listed as Generic, but it has a nastily horrible habit of kernel panicing the system, I have a sneak suspicion it's due to the IDE controller though, I plan to get a SATA drive soon... It can however (when it doesnt kernel panic) burn and read at all speeds. Note that there's currently a CD-R in the drive.
14. Nope.. Works fine, I got the card in the mail today, popped it in and it works perfectly (System Preferences after unloading old VoodooHDA kext) Gets a bit of distortion after turning it up past half on the volume meter (using headphones) but good enough not to really bother me. I don't know if it's the card or the OS, this is literally a brand new card for me, so I guess I'll find out if it does the same thing on Windows if I ever bother to reinstall it again.
15. Great! Internal Realtek ALC onboard is slowly dieing a quieter and quieter death, so I scored http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...T#ht_500wt_1059 on eBay for $3!. Glad it'll work on my hack pro [EDIT: Double post because of IPS driver error...grrrr...]
