  2. Calling all ATI Radeon HD Owners

Sapphire ATi Radeon HD4870/512 Here's my BIOS dump: http://www.mediafire.com/?dwwkuh2kd1aet4h I use no injection whatsoever, with latest 10.6.7 Drivers. I am aware that some applications such as DVD Player or Geekbench crash at launch, whith no active injection but, when I want even those 3 or 4 applications to work, I simply enable Chameleon RC5 embedded injection by adding GraphicsEnabler=y to my c.A.b.p. In this specific case, when i copied and pasted "About this Mac" output, it was enabled. 6. 4870 1GB Working Sleep/CI/QE/Resolution Change!

Which aty_init is that? i mean this one: http://netkas.org/?p=107 , the universal injector for both ATi and NVidia.
  7. 4870 1GB Working Sleep/CI/QE/Resolution Change!

What do you mean with "reading aty_init"? If you mean how to see its contents, then just right click it and choose "Show package contents" then open the Contents directory and eventually you'll find Info.plist, an XML file.
  8. 4870 1GB Working Sleep/CI/QE/Resolution Change!

Success on my Sapphire 4870/512 with 10.5.7 vanilla ATi kexts. Earlier i was using netkas' Natit and then ATY_INIT with 4870 bios image embedded then i tried with an efi string generated from the XML provided by Mowglibook and linked by Keld in the first post and adapted for my PCIRoot (my MB is an ABIT ip35 Pro) but it didn't work. I, then, tried to convert the 4870 part of ATI_INIT to an EFI_STRING, omitting tha BIN_IMAGE key, of course, and it worked. I now have full support (QE/CI, Resolution change, etc... Still need to try dual display tho, will edit my post accordingly, once tested.) just like before but with no injectors at all. It's even compatible with SnowLeopard, without having to wait for a 64 Bit capable injector. Following the XML and HEX version of the efi-string i now use for my 4870/512. Remember to change the PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0) according to you hardware. Instructions are in the first post by Keld. Credits go to Netkas, Keld, Mowglibook, CycloneFR, lastExile and all the friends from the IRC #RadeonHD channel crew who, by the way, is also an invaluable source of know-how and even a good company during work pauses [Edit] I cheered too soon. Turns out not working in SnowLeo, Chameleon kept messing up /Extra/Extensions.mkext loading part of kexts from Leo partition and part from SnowLeo and since i had an ATY_INIT.kext laying around, i got fooled. Investigating the matter. Thx all and good luck. Confirmed working on Abit IP35 Pro. CMOS reset not happening anymore. Good Job, Stellarola.
  10. Check your system configuration and see if QuartzGL is enabled or not. If it is, just disable it using, i.e. OSX86Tools or search for "Disabling QuartzGL" for a simple terminal command. Be careful, i'm not referring to Quartz Extreme. You need Quartz Extreme but you definitely do not need QuartzGL (formerly Quartz2D Extreme). It's deprecated and definitely not working with HD4xxx, it causes mouse stuttering/freezing.
  11. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Booting with -x means booting in "safe mode" so yes, it disables QE/CI and audio.
  12. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

Just read the 3rd post after the one you quoted.
  13. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

The answer to your question is in this very thread, page 8, post 146: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1106167
  14. You never need to reinstall the whole system because of a wrong or not working driver. When booting in safe mode (-x) doesn't help, You simply need to boot in 'single user mode' (-s, google for it) and You can remove/replace/fix the offending kexts. As a last chance, You can boot from the installation OSX DVD and perform the aforementioned operations from the terminal available there. The only thing it really takes, is knowing what you're doing.
  15. A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

This modified natit for 4870 should solve the resolution change and the resume from sleep (i mean monitor sleep, not PC) problems. Use it with package from first page. NB: It's only for 4870/512 MB (users with 1 GB 4870s please try it and report back), don't use it with a 4850, it won't work. Just place it in System/Library/Extensions, after having removed (and backupped) the one already there. Repair permissions, clear kext cache and reboot with -f in order to rebuild caches. Credits go to netkas, CycloneFr and all the IRC mates who provided the informations and the material needed to achieve this result. Good luck
