So after searching the forum and thinking about to do an update from my 10.5.8 Hackintosh (kalyway 10.5.2 install and iDeneb update), i luckily came to this Blog: http://prasys.co.cc/

And the Empire EFI from Pradeesh sounded really nice and i have given it a try and it was sooo easy.

No Hacking, no DSDT patching required.

Original Vanilla Kernel and 64-bit Mode enabled…

Just updated to 10.6.2. There you have be carefull but is even relative easy if you do all Steps as declared.

First of all my big respect to the following people who made this possible:

of Course

  • the master chief himself: Netkas from Russia, can be found on: www.netkas.org
  • Pradeesh from Malaysia can be found here: http://prasys.co.cc/
  • Conti http://osx86.sojugarden.com/
  • and a lot of others people i'm sadly don't know the Names for suppling the Kexts…

The installation is based on Empire EFi and myHack

I'm running the following hardware:

* Asus P5W DH Deluxe not latest Bios should be 2.5X or 2.6x

* Core2DUO E2600

* Nvidia 7600 gt

* 4gb of Ram

* several HDDs (500gb Sata for Snow Leopard)

* IDE DVD Drive

* the BIOS Settings are the one from my Kallyway install so have a look over here:

Steps you have to do

  1. Buy a legal Copy of Snow Leopard
  2. Download Empire efi (Version 1.0) http://prasys.co.cc/2009/10/empire-efi/
  3. unzip and burn containig iso to cd (i used disk utility from hackintosh 10.5.8 – use what ever your want) burn slowly, not highest availabl speed. I made it with 8x
  4. Download Kext helper app from http://www.kexts.com/
  5. Download the Kexts (VoodooHDA.kext, USB2 ECHI kext, NVenabler.kext from http://www.kexts.com/
  6. Download Wifi Driver http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D1BOPR2I
  7. put in the CD
  8. Restart your PC/hackintosh and boot from CD (with inserted burned Empire EFI CD)
  9. After the empire Efi Screen Shows up (Darth Vader in the background) put CD out and put the Original
  10. Snow Leopard DVD in
  11. Press F5 – wait till it shows up on the screen (the SNow Leopard CD), select it and press enter (may take a while)
  12. Wait
  13. Start the usual Snow Leopard Installation Progress. Maybe you have to format your Harddrive via (Additional Software-> Disk Utility) and format/partition it to GUID
  14. Install Snow Leopard
  15. When the install has got finished, put Leopard DVD out
  16. Put the CD with Empire EfI back in your DVD and restart from CD again
  17. Now When Empire EFI shows up choose the Hard drive you installed Snow Leopard to
  18. and Hit Enter
  19. Then the usuall progress with timezones and adding an user… from Snow Leopard will appear (don't copy yout settings from an other Mac)
  20. When you are booted in Snow Leopard with an new User
  21. Go to the (Empire EFI) CD, there in the Folder: Extra/Post-Installation start: my-hack installer.mpkg and install myhack to your new Snow Leopard harddrive.
  22. Reboot without CD
  23. Install Kexts: VoodooHDA.kext, USB2 ECHI, for nvdia graphics, the Snow Leopard NVenabler kext. With Kext helper app.
  24. Install Wifi Driver Realtek …
  25. Restart
  26. fall in love with Snow Leopard ;-)

Now everything should be up and running smooth – if so decide to support the People who made this possible: netkas, Conti, Pradeesh, insanelymac.com, apple …

For Installing the Softwareupdate 10.6.2

I first messed things up so I'm not really shure if it works but in generall i have done this:

  1. Backup Your /Extra and /Library/Extenisons Folder
  2. Download 10.6.2 Combo Update from Apple
  3. Install Combo update but DON'T restart
  4. Then reinstall your backed up Kexts
  5. and replace in /Library/Extensions the files contained in this Package http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4MDBCGL8 thanks to MacDude (for Graphic nvidia 7XXX to Work)
  6. And replace in /Extra the new NullCPU...kext from Netkas
  7. then run Cont's Script via Terminal to do this (after every Line Enter ;-)):
  8. open Terminal
  9. sudo -s
  10. your password
  11. cd /Volumes/yourharddrivenameinstead
  12. ./pfix
  13. /Volumes/yourharddrivenameinstead
  14. restart

If you get KernelPanic

do this at Empire EFI boot:

press any key and then -x32 and Enter

Then Run Cont's pfix Script again and Repair Permissions with Disk Utility.

That's it Folks

Hope to help yaa out with some answers ;-)

Hi, just want to say thanks to your guide now I have a perfectly running Snow machine ! It even took the update to 10.6.2 with no problems at all . After more than 2 months trying to make it work , finally got it! and it was the easiest I have seen and tried so far ! Thank you again for a well written explained tutorial ! :censored2:

Now for the ones who want to try here are my specifics:

I have an Hp destop

Motherboard : Gigabite G41M-ES2L

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT. used the NvEnabler64 Kext

Ram: 4 Gigs

Wireless Card: Atheros , this one worked out of the box! Snow installation recognized it !

Sound: On board , I used the VoodoHD.kext to make it work

So , in general I only had to use 2 , YES did you hear that??? !! only 2 Kext to make this thing work !!!! I do not think you can get more " Vanilla" than that !!!!

I will recommend this set up to anyone out there ! Empire EFI is the fastest way to install SNOW ,and it works !!!!

:(

I installed 10.5.8 without any issues, but when I try to use this guide to install SL, I get the "wait for service appleIntelCPUPowerManagement timed out" after I put in the SL disk. Wouldn't this work for everyone the same? Is there something in the BIOS that I should change? I originally had the problem of the "waiting for root device" but I removed the IDE DVD and used a SATA DVD instead, which resolved that issue. Any advice would be appreciated. I've installed using BOOT-132 on other boxes, but I can't seem to get a working SL on any of my machines (except my Dell D630 laptops).

I'm using an ASUS-P5B-E. Everything (ethernet, ATI 1900xt, firewire, sound...) works in 10.5.8.

For those who have got SL running with this method, are sleep, shutdown, and restart working or are they an issue? I managed to get 10.5.8 fully working with sleep but after adding in a second 9600GT it borked everything so now I'm taking the plunge to get SL working.

Here is my setup:

ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe (2302)

Intel Q6600 (G0 Stepping)

8 Gigs of DDR2 Ram

Seagate 500GB HD (for SL)

LG DVD Burner

2xBFG 9600GT's

to surreal :

I got my system working ! Everything works !! Even deep sleep !! I installed the sleepenabler .kext and now it works ! It did not worked when first installed 10.6, even the update ( 10.6.2 went without problems !)

So , sleep , deep sleep , wake , and shutdown, and restart all work !! Wireless internet works ! Graphics are perfect thru DVI ! :)

to recount my set up , everything is Vanilla install!!! Did not changed anything from the original retail install !

I only had to use 3 Kext for :

video

Audio

and Deep sleep enabler!

That is it !!!

Perfect Vanilla install !! Thanks to all that made all this possible ! I Love my Apple PC ;)

:) Just wanted say thanks for a great post. We have two MACs at work in our grahpics department at work so I preformatted my HD there and stop by the store and bought a family pack of snow. This is just so I can play with MAC. The install went perfectly including upgrades except for some reason I could not use a SATA CDROM, for what ever reason. I tried 3 different drives one NEW, but they I kept geting errors when I put in the Snow CD. I hooked in an IDE drive and it worked flawlessly. I am set to ACHI so I don't get it. One of the SATA drive I used on my i7 machine it worked OKay (i7 dose not work with sound or updates, but this is another story for later). The upgrade from 10.6.0-10.6.2, I did not mean to do. I just tried to update iTunes 24 hours later and when it finished I was at 10.6.2 no errors or patches.

I successfully installed a Retail Snow Leopard DVD with the help of Empire EFI. Everything went alright but now I can only but with the Empire EFI disc inserted. I want a dual/triple boot with grub2 where I can select the OSX partition and go...

My setup:

1st HDD: Ubuntu

2nd HDD: macOSX

3rd HDD: WinXP

Any suggestions? MacOSX created a partition called EFI (around 250mb) during installation. Can I use this one to boot MacOSX without the help of a CD / DVD?

Regards,

chross

ive been trying this method on a p5w dh deluxe but I get stuck soon after I select the snow leopard installer, Its not a DVD but a usb stick and some white text appears over the spash page but mostly it is hidden. I can see "timeout" repeatedly occuring.

I then tried using rebel efi but i can't get control of usb mouse or keyboard when i have to choose my language. have tried playing with bios settings for usb 2.0 controller and legacy usb support but has not helped.

would really appreciate any advice as it has already eaten up half of my week end. ;)

[update] Have finally managed to install - it turned out that I had to disable the USB 2.0 Control in BIOS before the drive could be read. USB 1.0 to install was far too slow, so now have restored installer to a SATA drive and have installed in machine. Much faster.

Everything works, except it won't sleep with 10.6.3, so currently reinstalling and following the above guide to make sure I didn't miss anything.

So I have installed 10.6.3 as per the instructions and everything works perfectly. Graphics card has never run so fast.

Only one problem - sleep doesn't work.

I have tried installing sleepenabler, corevidia 1.1, and NVenabler

but the best I can get is a black screen on waking.

Can anyone suggest how to get sleep to work?

Hi,

I've been hanging at this forum quite a bit with my old username "Erño". For some reason I can't login with that username anymore. Anyway....

I have successfully installed retail Leopard on my Asus P5W DH deluxe, but my brother {censored}ed up the system and then deleted it. Now I'm going to install Snow Lopard. First I'm tring to install on an USB flash drive to test the system before I'll waste the 500GB windows partition.

The Empire EFI loader doesn't work for me. I keep getting a SAM multimedia xxxxxxxxxxxxx error, then "still waiting for root device". What's going on?

I would like to confirm this tutorial working for the latest Empire EFI release (Generic) and the retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 disc.

My Hardware:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe with the BIOS Settings from Lifehacker.

Nvidia 8800GT 512 MB

4GB 800 MHz

Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz

The Software:

Empire EFI 1.085 w/ 10.6.3 Support (Generic)

Retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Installation Disc

Using the same method, I installed the version of myHack included with EmpireEFI. I made no additional changes. After successfully booting, I used Kext Helper b7 to install VoodooHDA, the USB2 EHCI set of kexts, and NVenabler. One more reboot and I was running at maximum resolution. Sleep, Restart, and Shutdown are verified as working.

One side-note, however. Kext Helper b7 was giving me trouble, and each time I used it required a Force Quit prior to reboot. This didn't seem to affect the installation of any kexts, however.

Thank you so much for this guide. I am finally able to enjoy the wonders of Snow Leopard.

EDIT: Ok, after 4 days trying everything and reading dozens of posts, I found the problem just 1 minute after I posted this. It always happens the same :P

Basically, you can't load Empire EFI from an USB flashdrive. It won't load your DVD.

That's it. I'll try later all the other stuff, updating my progress. Thanks!

Hi,

I spent 3-4 days trying to make this works, trying also this other way (boot123), but is always the same, the bootloader don't show my DVD player, so I can not start the SL installer.

My system:

  • Asus P5W DH Deluxe, bios v2302
  • SATA harddrive -> 3rd master
  • SATA Asus DVD -> 4rd slave (it came this way from the shop)

(if more pc specs are relevant I can paste them)

I'm loading the Empire EFI 1.08 Legacy (the only one working, non-legacy version won't boot) from a USB flashdrive. It loads perfectly, but it only shows my harddrive and previous Leopard install. It doesn't show any DVD, neither the SL one nor any regular CD/DVD.

I've tried all the IDE modes: IDE enhanced, legacy, AHCI... the DVD never appears.

Could be because the SATA DVD is slave? The bios version? Or maybe because I'm loading from an USB? (sorry no blank CD at hand)

I've also tried RebelEFI, EasyEFI, etc. None of them boots, could be my old bios version? Only legacy Empire EFI and macita works.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks.

I tried this method and everything worked as far as the install goes

the Asus D5W DH is running 10.6.4, 8 gig of ram, Nvidea Fx4400 patched, blu-ray burner, 4tb raid (2 x Caviar black 2 tb) 1 tb main drive and realtek builtin wifi

EXCEPT : USB is always running under USB 1 not 2 I tried several times to play with the bios setting and installing USB2 EHCI but the USB is always kicking in in low speed UHCI

I have no clue what's wrong any help would be welcome
