OS X - dell dw 1395 wifi issue

Hi Guys,

I have recently purchase a nc10 and have upgraded the RAM to 2GB without any issue, I now only have OS X boot installed, and have switch the stock wifi card to a dell dw 1395. However when I now boot up the OS loads successfully but when I try to add the airport as suggested in several guides there is no option to add this.

I was under the impression that the dell dw 1395 doesn’t need additional drivers installed to enable it to work. I have tried enabling the wifi from the functions keys but this has had no effect. The wifi LED is displayed as a constant blue.

Any suggestions help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Hi paul.collins,

I also have DW 1395 & it is working wonderfully.

You need to edit this file to add device id for your DW 1395:-

/System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist

This is what you need to add because it is not listed in original kext:-

<string>pci14e4,4315</string>

Example content of the file:-

		<dict>
			 <key>Broadcom 802.11 PCI</key>
			 <dict>
					 <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
					 <string>com.apple.driver.AirPortBrcm43xx</string>
					 <key>IOClass</key>
					 <string>AirPort_Brcm43xx</string>
					 <key>IOMatchCategory</key>
					 <string>IODefaultMatchCategory</string>
					 <key>IONameMatch</key>
					 <array>
							 <string>pci106b,4e</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4311</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4312</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4313</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4315</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4318</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4319</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,431a</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4320</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4324</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4325</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,4328</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,432b</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,432c</string>
							 <string>pci14e4,432d</string>
					 </array>

Good luck. :)

Boot with "-f".

kizwan

I'm having the same problem.

Aplied the info in the file, rebooted, the info is still there, but no card.....

Do you know what can be wrong?

I have a NC10, with 10.6 from tea, and Broadcom DW1395.

Boot with -f to force load all kexts. This also rebuild kexts cache file. I thought you already know basic kernel flags. At boot menu, enter -f & press enter.

Thanks a lot Kizwan,

I'll try, just to clarify, i have to press "minus signal" and "f" key during boot process?

Hi Kizwan, I know this topic is a little old, but I'd just like to say thanks a ton -_-

I just bought a DW1395 and had the same issue, so I edited the plist and rebooted. It still didn't show up so I entered the boot options menu and booted with "-f" and Lo and behold it worked!

Having WiFi makes my Hackintosh about a jillion times better, and it was only possible thanks to your help :(

Oh no! I spoke too soon! I restarted my computer today and now the DW1395 no longer works! The Airport icon in the status bar says "No Airport card installed". I have rebooted again, it's still not working...

Any ideas?

EDIT:

So it turns out that it will work every time when I boot with -f, but it will never work when I boot without that parameter... Is there any way around that?

Thanks
