No mountable filesystems

So I installed a retail version of 10.6 on my P8P67 build. I'm running the latest version.

I get no mountable file systems for a lot of .dmg and .iso installer files including perian and google earth. I know they are not corrupt, they open fine on my 10.5 install. I have googled this a lot and can't find any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem so if any one can shed some light on this issue and maybe tell me where i can start looking to find what is causing the error I would be most grateful.

I am also unable to mount DVD's although I can burn them just fine - I think this could be related.

Thanks in advance,
