MCP79 / Port Multiplier Potential / AHCI vs SATA Modes

So I'm doing a little digging around, and although I think the 9400M/MCP79 is a ridiculously capable chipset, I'm obsessed with figuring out its full SATA capabilities, specifically when it comes to Port Multipliers.


Has anyone gotten it to support Port Multiplication, on any platform, any level, in any way?


Here's where I am so far:


I have a chopped up laptop (with the MCP79 onboard) with SATA extension cables giving me external SATA (or eSATA with an adapter) access to do some fooling around with.


I can add any straight-ahead SATA device (5.25" Optical Drive, 3.5" HDD, etc), but plug in a Port Multiplier and... nothing.




I have a Wiebetech XE enclosure ( http://www.wiebetech.com/products/toughtech.php ) , with the Oxford 924 chipset ( http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/...OXUF924DSB.html ). It has one internal SATA port, and an external ESATA connection.


SO... when I plug the PM into the SATA connector on the Oxford board, then plug that into the unibody through the eSata port (converting it to SATA to plug into the unibody)...


It only sees the first drive on the PM.


I've looked around for darwin source to enable PMP on the MCP79... but no luck.


Crazy? Expected? Any thoughts?


Right now, I don't care which operating system I have to use to get it working, so any ideas would be hugely appreciated.
