Full Version: Forums slow the last few days

BigPimpin
Since the last outage the other day I've noticed the site is excruciatingly slow. I'm seeing 30-second page loading times. Sometimes longer. It's possible the problem is on my end but I'm not seeing it on any of the other sites I visit. Anybody else aware of this?

EDIT: When I originally posted this message I had a packet sniffer watch the TCP/IP transaction. After I pressed "Submit", forum.insanelymac.com sent a TCP ACK packet immediately. The "HTTP 200 OK" reply didn't come for another 47 seconds. This is typical for the last couple of days.
Suhail
I have also noticed this slowness (Especially on Virgin Media). Something will be done soon smile.gif.

I can confirm this 100%. Its really really slow...Maybe slower than its ever been before. I'm also getting the good ol' IPS Driver Error tongue.gif
Mac Cute
I thought it was just me...It is slow, but no IPS Driver Error until now for me...
Krazubu
I confirm too, not always though
BigPimpin
Thanks for letting me know it's not just me! Good luck to you guys trying to fix it and I hope it gets fixed soon, whatever is causing it. Thanks again.

Same. No errors but it's be slow what feels like 75% of the time the last 3 or 4 days which has kept me off.

First I thought it was my broadband but other sites seem to load fine.
dragossh
It's slow here too. I hope it gets fixed soon.
Krazubu
I should add that it's getting worse and I often get errors

I too have noticed things being a lot slower than normal.

You mean the "Board Message - Server too busy to handle your request" errors?
Software Updater
Mine has been slow as well and I have gotten the IPS Error alot more recently. Hope it gets fixed soon because I <3 this site. biggrin.gif

houston we have a prolbem

ping is fine, it's just the server itself is slow to replay http requests, memory leaks? issues with the database connection?

That would be my guess since the initial TCP acknowledgement happens almost instantly. But it could still be other things depending on how they're set up with their provider. FWIW just now the response time was much better getting to this page.

EDIT: But when I pressed "Preview Post" it took about 45 secs to come back.

EDIT2: When I finally pressed "Add Reply" it sat there for over 2 minutes before I hit the "stop" button on my browser and pressed "Add Reply" again.
Suhail
Sorry about this guys. Will be fixed real soon. Also the reason the AJAX stuff doesn't work is because the XMLHTTPRequest is timing out and therefore sending some of the request. Anyway its being looked in to.
BigPimpin
Thanks for the update. Also, I did not make that absurd post above on purpose. I was just trying to get my edited post to go through, and even though I did hit Submit several times, it didn't look like that when I did! All the submits look like they got combined somehow. Looking forward to normal operations again soon.

Hope it gets fixed soon smile.gif
ComplexMind
The slowness problem is hopefully fixed now. Let me know if you are still having problems....

Thanks! Mark.

Something is wrong, the forum is fast now tongue.gif

Looks like I spoke too soon. It's really schizo now. I can load 4 or 5 pages in a row with no delays. Then, all of a sudden, it reverts to not loading at all. Then some time later it will start working normally again. And then not respond some more. Still not right.
~pcwiz
I'm experiencing (although not as seriously) somewhat the same as BigPimpin. The load times are faster than they were before and they are much better but occasionally it goes "out" again. Does this forum really use AJAX Suhail? Can't see it being used anywhere tongue.gif
Azurael
2.102s rendering this very thread for me. Then again, it is 4:39am, so perhaps the load isn't as high as it might be biggrin.gif
Suhail
@pcwiz: AJAX is used in the Quick Editor wink.gif. Also used in the My Assistant and a few other things.

I would think that the problem is to do with the Ads. Since the rest of the Page loads as normal. Anyway this is being resolved ASAP so should be fast again real soon

That would be why I've never noticed a problem with loading speeds then. rolleyes.gif Was getting a lot of DB errors a couple of months back, but that seems to have been cleared up now.
Software Updater
Much faster, thanks so much!
Suhail
Ok should be faster now, if people are still having problems then let me know smile.gif
Software Updater
Thanks so much for the quick responses.
erbic
Got a "Board too busy to handle your request" error for about a half hour straight a little while ago. Gone now, but it was annoying.
~pcwiz
It seems OK for now smile.gif
Suhail
@Erbic: Those are to keep the whole server from overloading. We have over 2500 users on especially in the evenings and I am sure the server will struggle if all of you click and request or post something all at once. The message only lasts around a few mins and only occurs when there is a huge surge of users on.
Mr. Bond
Yeah, things are definetly back up to speed. It was near unbearable these last couple days. Hats of to you, Suhail! smile.gif
thespottedelf
its pretty fricken slow...
BigPimpin
I still have problems about 50% of the time. Almost half the time when I click on something I have to press Esc and click on it again to get it to load.

Whenever I respond to a post and press "Add Reply", I never get a completion. It just stays "loading..." forever (I learned not to keep pressing it angel.png ). If I open a new tab in my browser and navigate to the topic, I can see my response in the thread. Meanwhile, the first tab is still loading, as if the response is still pending. The back end is doing what it should for the forum software but pumping the responses back out (HTTP 200 OK or whatever) is still causing problems, at least for me.

It's useable but it's still not right (as I get ready to hit the dreaded "Add Reply" button...).

EDIT: As expected, the original tab where I submitted the above response... it's still "loading...". At the bottom (Firefox on XP) it says "Waiting for forum.insanelymac.com..." in the status bar. The cursor is the hand with the hourglass and the little spinny thing is spinning away in the upper-right-hand corner of the window, waiting for the server to respond. When I opened this tab to make this edit, I had to enter "http://forums.insanelymac.com" and press enter 5 times before it connected. Definitely still not right.

At the moment its working fine, thanks for fixing it biggrin.gif

yah. it's because there were too much oil in the servers and they had to whip it out of them. they also had to super glue the tv screen to the clock which in turn powered the piggy
