i have been thinking of getting a iphone for a while now and i have a few questions:

is the iphone worth it?
other then the internet browser what else is good about it?
i know with the SDK out and the third party aps coming soon there will be tons of new features but is it worth it even then?
should i wait to see if the 3g iphone comes out within the next few months?
also is there any PC stuff with iphone? because i have been working on getting leopard running but i will try harder if its only on mac.

any answers or input about if i should get one would be great!
thanks all!

I think that basically the iPhone will be the same, just with 3G of course.
Go for it now.

an iPhone is overrated imo, who needs a cell phone that cost about 400 bucks?

It's not just a phone. It's an SSD-based iPod and a PDA all in one thin, sexy package.

After getting mine i wouldn't have gotten any other phone. I know some people complain about the virutal keyboard, but I prefer it to anything else. It' what I'm using to write this post. I like the push mail offered by Yahoo, the great interface (by far the best I've seen on any phone), and it makes a great iPod too. smile.gif

Still, you did forget the S on the end of "It'"

Think Mark

iPhone is more than a iPhone and most people look past the phone part anyways...

I would say the size/shape of the phone is good, the screen, which is really great and the interface in general is very nice. Go use one in an Apple store, see for yourself.

Yeah, just wait a little. Otherwise the regular iPhone is great too.

Yes, it works with PC & Mac.

cool thanks all.
i think ill be waiting until atleast june to see if they come out with 3g or something like that with the new update.

anyway thanks all

at&t's 3g coverage is HORRIBLE, basically only really big cities, and even then it does not go out to the burbs

I'm not sure if there's any nationwide 3g yet, verizon needs to let these sim card phones work on their network!!

NIXin
Maybe AT&T's 3G coverage, but here in Europe, it's a lot better with 3G (in the bigger countries of course, and though usually also bigger cities - still better then in the USA from what I've heard).

Call me impatient, but I bought an iPhone the other day knowing full well a 3G iPhone was coming. I can only assume the 3G iPhone will be more expensive than the EDGE one, and I was only barely prepared to pay £270 for the thing so that kinda says it really.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the iPhone and I'm sure you will be too whether you get one now or "in 60 days" as Mossberg proclaims.

Yes indeed, and I totally agree with you. Also, I'll be buying one soon too, even though the 3G is, as you said coming. But who know when and for how much...

The return policy is only good for 14 days. I'd either wait or just get one.
bigosx86noob
kk thanks.
i think for that ill atleast wait a month or two(till june most likely) to see what else happens.
thanks all for your help.

also can it run flash or java or anything like that?(on the browser i mean)
Berzerker
Nope. Sun has announced a commitment to releasing a version of the Java Virtual Machine for the iPhone when 2.0 comes out. Adobe has said the same about Flash, but has backed out of those statements calling on Apple for helping with better support on the phone's side.

They would never do that. There are reports of a thinner 3G version being announced at WWDC in June.

i hear a new iphone in 1 month smile.gif

Buy it.

My friend has iphone! She said this is a fairy-tale! She adore it!

As EddM said, a thinner 3G iPhone will probably be alot more expensive, and imo, 2.5g is fast enough.

Utterly agree! These people go around saying that it is not fast enough, WTF are they doing on it, WoW! Runescape!
You have your Mac (hopefully) for the internet side of things, if anything, £169 is worth a SP1, NES, & GBA emu!

Think Mark
Berzerker
EDGE is fast if you live in an area where not many use it. EDGE gets horribly slow in areas like NYC, or Philadelphia, or Newark. Too many people using it at the same time in a condensed area.

Have to disagree with that, i tried the NES, Genesis and GBA emu and all found them more or less unplayable, not because of the speed or anything (speed on most of the emu's is great) but because there's no buttons, even in Landscape mode i still couldn't get my head round it.

i went onto the apple store a few days ago and asked one of the mac people there about a new iphone and the said its almost deffinately happening soon and i should wait( i was gona anyway). thanks all for your input.
iPhoneinCanada
You guys are lucky to have the iPhone...us unfortunate folk up in Canada have been left out in the cold (no pun intended, hehe). Anyways, I solved this problem by getting one from the US and unlocking it....problem solved! Too bad lots of people in Canada have no idea how to do that! rolleyes.gif
Berzerker
Rumor has it that Apple is in talks with carriers from Canada, India, and Australia, and that you may get it by summer.
benwinship
I personally think its unreal that its not out in Canada yet.
com3
I would wait, its only a few weeks from now i wouldnt want to miss out on 3g a better camera and possibly GPS, about canada; Rogers released a memo around a week ago saying that they will get it in the upcomming weeks.

Haha, they arent supposed to talk about any new products.
derekreid
I'm also from Canada and think it's ridiculous we don't have the iPhone yet...and I don't really want to wait any longer to get probably get ripped off by Rogers on it anyway.

My plan was to wait for the second generation to come out and go down south to get one and unlock it. Will the new one actually be much better, and will it cost much more?

We don't know anything about the rumored new iPhone. I reckon it will be worth the wait at least until June 9 for WWDC.

Rogers has confirmed the iPhone will be sold in Canada later this year, and rumors say that it will come with very reasonable data rates.
JSn1™
I'm also going to wait to get the new one.
Berzerker
From looking at the newer rumors and that someone has supposedly released a case for the new one, since it looks bigger and it the new firmware says that 3G will lower your iPhone's battery life makes me completely turned off from the new one.
Synaesthesia
i agree, the new rumored designs don't look as good. But if it includes 3G and GPS, i don't mind. Either way, though. If you wait for the new one, the old one will be cheaper! I have to agree, the old/current iPhone is gorgeous.
JSn1™
Come on ppl.

Apple is going to make it better. It is a must.
They're not going to make a crappy version of what they are selling 20,000 units a day.
Also, I think the price will be a bit lower than the old $599 iPhone.
Why? If iPhone is $599 again, would you buy it? knowing that there will be a price
drop in the next 2 months?
Synaesthesia
No, and no.
lord_muad_dib
well, my guess is that this time, there will be no price drop(or very low), because the iphone will be sold the day 1(or so) around the world with others carriers than AT&T and apple would have less control on the price to the end user
JSn1™
There are rumors that it will be subsidized by AT&T.

My predictions:

> No AT&T contracts: $399 and $499
> AT&T (prob. after rebate): $199 and $299
