I found a link on the bay with a new toh 9.2.2 kernel. I tested it on my hackintosh and it works.
Just search for it (9.2.2 kernel).
I hope it's a toh release at least it's marked that way.
Greetings

Can you please tell me how to install it?
I unzipped and only one file came out named "mach_9.2.2_IntelSSE3.EFI". What do I need to do to install it?

well lord...we all begun with this once right?Don't be so hard on him
This is actually much simpler than you might think.
1.) Get the new kernel you want to install.
2.) Open up Terminal.app in /Application/Utilities (and enter the following commands:)
3.) Code: cd /
4.) Code: sudo mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_bak (This renames the current to mach_kernel_bak in case you need it later)
5.) Using Finder (GUI) drop your new mach_kernel into the root directory (/) of your OSx86 installation.
6.) Back in the teriminal execute the following to set the permission correctly on the new kernel:
Code: sudo chown -R root:wheel mach_kernel ; sudo chmod -R 755 mach_kernel
7.) Reboot
That's it.
Here the original
link (You'll need to register)
Thx bofors for the simple way
Hope it works for you!

What would you say if someone else told this to you? Looking at your profile doesn't seem to show an Osx86 Guru, or don't you ask any questions?

My hackintosh doesn't want to boot after kernel update (it hangs on a blue screen after a grey one with apple)
I'm currently on the other disk (bootable backup)
What can I do to restore kernel or make it work ?

Apr 2 2008, 01:39 PM
before you replace kernel a good idea would be to test it 1st with a very simple way
just rename it to something else (mach_kernel_test) and paste it in root (tha path you have when you double click at your mac hd)
then at darwin bootloader boot with: mach_kernel_test (type this)
if it boots and everything is ok then you can replace the original mach_kernel with the new one

You need to install this if your PC does not support Vanilla Kernels, or if you want SpeedStep.
BTW For me any of those 2 kernels have a failure, if I run JAVA it gives a BUS ERROR.

Hi Mate,
Thanx for that. Although your method above didn't work, I used the other instructions from that link you gave which worked like a charm. It was:
1. Get the kernel
2. Rename the new kernel to mach_kernel.base and place it at root
3. Backup your current kernel, type in Terminal:
cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.old
3. Type below in Terminal:
sudo chown root:wheel /mach_kernel.base
sudo chmod 644 /mach_kernel.base
cp /mach_kernel.base /mach_kernel
4. Reboot
I now run 9.2.2 kernel

hello,
does the leo4all release include the last Time machine and airport update containing also the system.kext that works with the new 9.2.2 kernel ?
Because, I have successfully installed the TM & aiport update with pacifist on my pentium D except kernel and used the ToH kernel.

Well am pleased to say that I could install all updates including the TM/Airport one with this patched kernel.
Well done, respect and thanks to whoever did it,
it works like a charm on my P4 SSE3 HTT hpet w/ ATI x1600 AGP pro 512 MB radeon

in fact system is faster than ever, but i didnt test TM as I do not use it...
and i have no idea how it improved airport, airport worked fine before, and still works fine after (i have a wifi broadcom 4320 which is recognised as Airport)
long time I didn't post in here

do I have to repair permissions before reboot ?
IDK what to do ... This kernel from "bay" doesn't work for me ... (see my specs) I've tried "terminal method" and PCWIZ kernel installer, and neither of them worked ...
What I get is constant reboot (even grey apple doesn't appear on screen) ...

I am using the Kalyway ISO. I didn't have to repair permissions, but it doesn't hurt to do so.
This update fixed shutdown and USB Drive auto-mount and unmount for me. The only problem now is getting sleep to work.

Yeah this is not caused by the kernel installation process itself, but its because the kernel is incompatible with your system. Just thought I'd clarify that

It seems this kernel has usb storage problems on some systems because when i set the usb mode setting of my camera to PTP mode instead of Mass storage mode, I am able to copy the photos off my camera.

I've got some USB issues as well, my wireless mouse first stopped working but does work now when I try other ports on my laptop. My digital camera doesn't seem to show up and the same goes for my external HD.
I need to do some more extensive testing, but USB is just acting a bit weird so far lol.

I have the same issues with USB, it only works when the devices are connected before boot.
If the devices are connected later, i could initialize them by un-/loading the AppleUSBOHCI driver.
But the biggest problem with the new kernel was, that every 60 minutes the system do an hard reset.
So now I went back to the old but stable kernel.

All these problems you are quoting might be solved by installing the Time Machine update (which has a few system files related to storage and backup issues), and then replacing the kernel before rebooting by the 9.2.2 patched one.
It seems the new 9.2.2 kernel works better with the new system files that it came with in the update...
Simply putting in the kernel seems to cause some problems, but I have not tested the kernel on its own.
I installed the TM update, then copied the patched kernel before reboot, repaired permissions etc...
So far for me it works this way.
My only little moan is that it breaks the VMWare native boot from XP, but then you cant always have it all...

Apr 21 2008, 04:33 PM
All the USB issues are because the kernel is being updated, but the system.kext no longer matches (9.2.2 version number). I experience this all the time when using different versions of kernels versus the System.kext version. Simple fix is to find the update that has the System.kext that matches your kernel and install/repair permissions and reboot. There is a thread on this here:

I have an Intel Pentium 4 Prescott. This kernel doesn't work for me. At boot, I get numerous errors, ending in one final diskarb error that prevents the system from booting.
Even though I ran the TimeMachine update, the 9.2.0 kernel still works fine with the newer system files. Until a better kernel is released, I'll stick to the old one.

Maybe your problem is caused by the lack of the SSE3?
This kernel is "mach_9.2.2_IntelSSE3.EFI"

Prescotts have SSE3. However, hey don't support NX. Maybe this one isn't patched for No NX and HPET. Regardless, it just isn't working.
