Full Version: iMac no good

I bought a new iMac and a friend said:" that's not good, because you can't put any extensions in it, like blue tooth, firewire, or anything else". I told him Apple has got it all.
I asked him what kind of extensions he would like to put in an iMac? After a while he agreed, there seems to be no other system as complete as an intel iMac.
Now I know for sure, nothing is better as a real iMac even the price isn't really bad, you just need to have enough money. but it Rocks.

A hackintosh show you why you would have a real Mac! wink.gif

I still say it's no good.

Can't update the graphics card.
Can't update the sound card.
Can't add additional hard drives.
Can't install a different hard drive.
Can't install a new optical drive.

No multi-channel sound output.

=(

Besides...I never use Bluetooth (I guess if I had an iMac, and wanted a wireless keyboard I wouldn't have much of a choice), or Firewire.

The iMac is just as expandable as the Mac Mini (which is to say... not very expandable). However, these Mac's have most of the ports and things most people would ever need. One thing that Mac's have is ease-of-use and support. You can easily perform Apple Updates and OS Upgrades.

Congrat's on your purchase. iMac's have a nice display. wink.gif

What about a real Mac Pro? Or even a Hack Pro at that?

1. Can't update the graphics card.
2. Can't update the sound card.
3. Can't add additional hard drives.
4. Can't install a different hard drive.
5. Can't install a new optical drive.

6. No multi-channel sound output.

7. Besides...I never use Bluetooth (I guess if I had an iMac, and wanted a wireless keyboard I wouldn't have much of a choice), or Firewire.

1. Okay, boo hoo, if you really want to do some intense 3D rendering then go get a mac pro with some quadro card...
2. Why would you want to..?
3. You can plug in an external drive...
4. You can open it up and replace the internal one if you really wanted to..
5. Why would you want to? It already has a DVD/CD burner.. unless you really need the top of the line blu-ray or whatever, it should be fine.
6. OH NOES! Cry me a river.
7. You can plug in a USB wireless dongle or whatever to it. That's how I used my Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse with my old iMac.

1. Who cares. The graphics is fine as it is.
2. Who cares.
3. Who cares. Just put in a bigger one.
4. Yes you can.
5. Yes you can.

And yes there is Multi-channel sound output. Every iMac has digital optical out/in in the same connection as the headphone jacks.
