Full Version: InsanelyMac. Version 1.0.1.
InsanelyMac Forum > InsanelyMac Lounge > Front Page News and Rumors
Sabr
Over the years, the forum has grown and evolved, moving from the OSx86 Project to InsanelyMac. To accommodate the needs of now over 160,000 registered users, we have decided it's time to reorganise the forum. We have listened to peoples complaints and wishes and have done what we can to provide you all with a coherent archive, as well as a lively and interesting forum.

Presenting InsanelyMac. Version 1.0.1.

Each section is pretty self-explanatory. Have a browse around, take the weekend to become accustomed to the new look and feel, and post your criticism and feedback here. Things will continue to be shuffled around until we find the perfect location, so don't be alarmed if you see certain threads moving, etc... wink.gif

Maybe version 2 is a bit of a stretch, maybe 1.1?

All that's changed is the order of all the sub-forums.
Or am I missing something?

How bout 1.0.1?? Where's the cool new theme???
fredouille
more than 160 000 registered did you say ?

incredible ... proud to make part of the insanelymac v2
Superhai
There are below 33000 users that has contributed with more than one post tough. It looks neater with this organization, but except for moving forums around I can't see any difference. -Maybe call it update 1.1.1 ? Maybe put the non-english language forums in their own section?
BreakTheChains
If anything the version should have 4 or 5 segments to make it as hard to understand as possible. Or just three to make it like the Mac versioning.
vaporATX
Quite bitching... I like it.

Maybe they should have changed everything around so you counldn't find anything and called it InsanelyMac Vista. tongue.gif

Can I make a suggestion? Under "Discuss and Learn" you have a Random subcategory, and under "Everything Else" we have the Thunderdome. It make more sense to bring back the "Real Life" section (or not) and combine the Random and Thunderdome sections since they are essentially the same things.

Overall, the new organization looks great! I am a little disappointed though, when I saw Insanelymac v2, I thought we got a new skin. blush.gif

Well since you wanted a long version number here it is

I'll be honest. I absolutely don't like the new look, the old one was just fine.

Sorry, I should've posted a changelog. When I get time I will. But anyway, Real Life = The Big Issues (it was more fitting, since the topics of discussion in there were about religion, politics, war, etc...). I think perhaps the Random category name could be improved, but Thunderdome is more of an off-topic chatter section, so combining the two wouldn't really work.

Well, there were many complaints about the organisation of the forum. And there were just too many people posting OSx86 questions in the OS X forum. So, restructuring had to be done. I know it's a big change, but believe me, there is logic and simplicity in the layout we've came up with.

You may see a sub-forum or two switch around though. As the forum covers a vast amount of topics, separating them can be a hard job. If you have any problems with the new design, please do speak up and we can look into changing them. wink.gif

Ok, maybe I'm being a little too picky here, but maybe it's a little higher than 1.0.1?
Wasn't there the whole OSx86 project site before?

Maybe this could be 1.1.1 rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

But this isn't what the community wants!

We want Sabr's wallpapers, now!

Much easier to find what I'm looking for. Two thumbs up! thumbsup_anim.gif

@ rollcage: on second thoughts (and discussion in the staff room), The Big Issues (real life) and The Great Debates have been made into their own independant sub-forums again. smile.gif

So is it 1.0.2 now or just 1.0.1 SP1 tongue.gif
nekton
Nice but as AFAIAC, search is the MAJOR need. For example, if I search on the phrase Kalyway 10.5.2, it should show the results by highlighting every instance of that phrase in every message—not just the thread where there maybe 1000 posts in which there are only 5 mentions.

lol Sabr, looks like you jumped the gun a little bit there. tongue.gif

I think we're still in the beta builds wink.gif

Yep, search is next on the list. We have came up with a fantastic idea to help improve search results and their relevance when trying to find information on the forum. I will talk about this in a week or two. We just need time to develop the new system and test it. smile.gif

As Sabr said we've got a few ideas to hopefully improve search to a level this place deserves. Hopefully our days of having to go to google to search InsanelyMac will be over.

Now I don't want to give too much away about the idea but all I can say is it involves Google wink.gif
~pcwiz
Ha ha lol Mebster you're gonna use Google Custom Search with some custom CSS and a couple mods here and there to make it more InsanelyMac integrated tongue.gif So obvious...

Sabr
I think Mebster meant to say it doesn't involve Google.

I can assure you, we are most definitely not using Google Custom Search.

Shame, unless of course you can come up with something better - all I know is I've used google to search the forums for pretty much as long as I've been a member and it works well.

Got to say, the category updates/re-organisation was a good idea - it's much easier to see what goes where now (at least in my opinion).

When the website was down, wouldn't it be good if you could throw that up? Without the store bit, of course.

Well,I liked the title "The Magnificent Seven".But I guess it was hit by the machine gun... smile.gif

This new organization will take some getting used to, but overall its better and more logical. The OSX86 section as a whole is a lot cleaner now.
ThinkMark
I like the magnificent seven too, but the new OSx86 is just the best.
should have been done long ago tongue.gif

the search has been borked ever since conception back in july of '05.
this should have been addressed many many months ago if not years, if you get people who cant find what they are looking for they will post all willy nilly like in any thread they deem relevent.

as for the forum rearangement, whats the point? fix the search and that will resolve alot of the missplaced post and other random bullcr@p.

thats my 2centsfinal.gif but hey no1 ever listens to me.

Sabr
Diabolik, I try to listen to as many people as possible. Search is our top priority now - it's (hopefully) the next thing to be fixed.

I dont see any difference besides a faster browsing times around the site.
thefinalprophecy
the best way to search is to use google anyway, and just end with "site:insanelymac.com".
Mac Cute
I think that thefinalprophecy is right:Google is our friend. But now I believe that we deserve the "Search option".Go for it Sabr... smile.gif

Problem is we can't rely on Google for our search, Since it does not index every single thing at once. It takes it's time. Also we are testing a new method of Searching and seeing how that is turning out. Its still in development but it is progressing smile.gif.

Hope I helped and all I can say is that it will be implemented soon.

You'd be surprised on how fast Google indexes this site...

I've had a few posts of mine come up within an hour of me posting... but I agree, it's not quick for all posts.
danubletta
To be honest, I use a lot of google, with inurl:insanelymac.com rather than the build-in search...

Yeah, that's probably possible with some extra code (Suhail is the one who could say for sure). Once we've figured out the search we can look into it for you. smile.gif

Thank you...I am going to leave Suhail alone for a while... smile.gif

I think you should do something about the Search. It's really irritating.
Why don't you use Google site search ? It's much better. Will also save you bandwidth.
