Did any one manage to get this beast working?
Send replies and show screenies, please!
netkas
geforce8 gl driver ahs only mentions about g92 and g98, nothing about g94.

so, it's not going to work with 10.5.2

but smbd may try to get working framebuffer at least, god knows wil it work or not.
netkas
But, we need some tester to try it with nvinject on 10.5.2
jasoneisen
Bump. Success anyone?
Kimari
Guessing there's not a lot a huge amount of people who've bough it so far...and much less for OSX considering no one else has.
Lexster05
I have the EVGA 9600 GT and I am in the same boat. I am running Kalyway 10.5.1 with the Kalyway 10.5.2 update.

I tried the nvinject with 10.5.2 and nothing changed.

If anyone could build a patch, I would be most grateful.

netkas
add ur devid to nvdanv50hal.kext and geforce.kext

I bought an Asus en9600gt today, someone has tried modding nvdanv50hal.kext?

bump... I bought one too.
I thought our most talent hackers are working for that. Just wait for good news from them.

Arggg... I'm bulding a Hackintosh and waiting for my motherboard to arrive tomorrow. I didn't realize that the 9600gt wasn't compatible. What won't work?

Specs:
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
Processor: Intel Q6600
Ram: 4gb (2x 2gb) PC2-8500 Patriot
Video: XFX Geforce 9600GT
foureight84
from your spec, the 9600gt will be a problem. i just upgraded mine also and i am still waiting for the patch. that gigabyte mobo is awesome. i got the ds4 and it plays nicely with the kalyway release.
beriguu
Any progress?

I have a 9600GT and am willing to be a guinea pig.
friedymeister89
I've been wrestling with Kalway for many hours... Everything is fine (except that it crashes when I shutdown) and when I try to install the nvidinject (or whatever it's called), installing only the 512mb version, I can't boot up (even in safe mode) and I get the screen that says to shutdown the computer. Any ideas? I really don't want to reinstall everything again.
vladthebad
go to the darwin bootloader, hit F8 to or return to enter some options.

enter -s hit return,
that takes you to single user mode

then follow the instructions:
I believe its: /sbin/mount -uw /

then go remove nvinject from command line, and remove your extensions caches.

cd /System/Library/Extensions
rm -r nvinject.kext
rm -r /System/Library/Extensions.*
reboot

now it'll boot back up in 1024x768 mode.

cpuguy06
I just got a 9600gt in my new Q6600 machine...will have to try the above method. So far my NIC on my ASUS P5K-E works and sound I still have yet to get working, sata works sees my ram, and the EFI bootloader emulation works as well.

can you please try those kexts http://rapidshare.com/files/103256449/9d10.zip.html ? Don't bother with the OpenGL.Framework, it's corrupted but at least if it works you'll have resolution change / framebuffer working for sure.

If it works then we'll see for QE/CI. Make sure you added your product id/vendor id in the nvdanv50hal.kext as netkas says in his post.
netkas

hopefully someone come up with a solution biggrin.gif

did you even read my previous post ? If you have a 9600GT, go try and let us know.

Hi,

I copied all the files in the zip into /System/Library/Extensions (minus OpenGL.Framework items).
I used xcode plist editor and added dev id to plist file for nvdanv50hal.kext. (my dev id is 0x0622)

The system boots alright.
But when I open up the system preferences to change the display resolution, it only has 1024x768 resolution option.
When I go to about this mac and click on the Graphic/Display, I get the "Please reset.." screen.

I have Vanilla kernel 9.2.2 and EFI v8 btw. I'm not 100% sure if EFI v8 installed properly because I don't know how to check.

FYI - I haven't installed the graphic update for leopard 10.5.2.

I can provide more details if needed.

I can try other things out if you like, with directions.

Cheers.
MacSimizeDenver
I bought the Sparkle 9600GT yesterday and din't get it working on my Kalyway 10.5.1 w/o Vanilla. So I installed it today again, this time with support for the Nvidia engine from Kalyways installer DVD (for the 5k, 6k and 7k series). But it won't work. Booting up until the process freeze and that't it.

So I change back to my x1600 pro everytime I need to use OSX. sad.gif
cyclonefr
You need to install NVINJECT too so it loads those kexts.

@MacSimizeDenver, try the kexts i posted on page 1 with nvinject and let us know too.

It failed when I tried this out.

NVInject V.41 installed, only thing changed in the install option was chaning 256MB to 512MB.

Copied all the contents of the zip file into /System/Library/Extensions (minus OpenGL.Framework items).
Zip file is from http://rapidshare.com/files/103256449/9d10.zip.html.

I changed permission on nvdanv50hal.kext so that I can save it.
I used xcode plist editor and added dev id to plist file for nvdanv50hal.kext. (my dev id is 0x0622)

I run disk utility and fix permissions.

Then reboot.
Once the screen goes to the grey apple screen, I get the Reset screen message.

I reboot with -v and it freezes on this portion of the screen:

Bump... Really except anyone to work it out.
Then what is the progress of our Super Hero Netkas and DiabloK?
I think they must be working with that... happy.gif

This happened to me when the kext (NVDANV40Hal.kext in my case, for GeForce 6 and 7 series) didn't have a matching device ID mask. Adding it solved the problem.

Recently it happened on my laptop (GeForce Go 6800) after installing the Leopard Graphics Update. Removing either the NVDA or NVinject kext allowed the system to boot and I thought I was going to have to track down and restore the originals, then eventually I remembered the device ID problem and got it working!
cyclonefr
thanks beriguu.. Then 10.5.3 has no 9600GT support. Sorry sad.gif You can't do much about it except waiting.. and waiting...
beriguu
Thank you for your suggestions cyclonefr.

I guess I have 3 options.

1. Wait for 9600GT support.
2. Use GMA950 on my ASRock mobo (kind of pain to switch off cables and do a bios change).
3. Keep using my G4 iBook.

Here's to hoping for the best.

Cheers!
MacSimizeDenver
where can I found the device id of my 9600?
beriguu
@MacSimizeDenver

On Windows, you can use GPUZ. Look for Device ID box. First 4 digits, 10DE, is NVIDIA. The next 4 digits are for your 9600GT. Mine happens to be 0622.

On Mac OSX, go to upper left hand corner Apple Symbol -> About This Mac -> More Info -> Graphics/Displays. It has your Device ID there.

Cheers.
MacSimizeDenver
Okay, and if I found out - how do I edit the .kext under Windows XP (if it's possible to edit it in general out of OS X).
MacSimizeDenver
@beriguu

I used your .kext because my card has the same device ID as yours. But see the screenshot....unfortunately the computer freeze at this point.

Can anyone tell me how I can copy this screen text without writing it down on a notepad? Would be more practicle than doing screenshots.

I wish I had read this thread before I bought my 9600GT yesterday :-(

I went out specifically to buy a card that would work with my Hackintosh setup (leo4allv2) (I had a 7800 GTX before) and was going to buy a 256MB 8600GT (checked the HCL first) but when I got to the store they had a Superclocked 512Mb 9600GT as their special for the day (and about $50 cheaper than the 8600) and I said to myself - what the heck, makes sense to buy it and I am sure, being a new card and all, I am sure it will work.

And then ... reality sets in when I get home! Argggg!

On the positive side, Vista is my main OS and the card just SCREAMS!

I will be wathing this thread with interest and if you need someone to help test options, just let me know.
zonker
Looking at Newegg.com, the 9600GT is supposed to have the G92 chipset. The 9800 series has the next chipset up. If the 8800's use the G92 and work, why won't the 9600GT. It is a great card and costs less than the 8800's. PC Club has them on sale (9600GT 512Mb) through 4-30 for $149 US.

I have one and it is great in windows and you can't beat it for the price.

Hasan
Thats because the 9600gt has the G94 core.
zonker
Yep, the ads are wrong. I talked to nVidia tech support and the 9600's are G94 chipsets so they are a no go at this time. blowup.gif

Is anyone skilled working on making the 9xxx-series work on osx86?

Don't think we noobs will be able to make i rock..
we need Diabolik or netkas for this...

Sure we need them. Yes.

But can anybody deal with the mesage from my screenshot?

well it's probably gonna be a long while before the 9600gt gets support. 10.5.3 beta has no sign of devid for the 9600gt... this was posted by netkas http://netkas.org/?p=60

damn. I can't wait so long. I need a fast running system to work again - so I will sell my 9600gt again and will get a 8800gt. sad.gif

I am in the same boat... which is better/$, radeon 3870 or 8800GT (they are both around the same price)?

The 8800GT performs better
