When ever I run something that goes full screen (like Warcraft 3, or Keynote slideshow) and then exit, the cursor has become a broken up horizontal line. Though you can't tell where the actual cursor is, it still operates correctly. After a restart, the cursor is back to looking normal. Tried setting Refresh Rate from 85 down to 75, but doesn't affect the issue.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone else know of a better way to toggle the mouse back to normal without restarting? Or of a way to prevent this?

I'm using a ATI Mobile Radeon 9600 128MB video card.
Supported CI and QE by default
1280x1024x32@85
8f1111a installed natively with Maxxuss Tuning 1.1 patch installed.
Sager 5680 Notebook

Can't say I have experienced that one.

As far as a better way to fix than reboot, you might try restarting the Finder
In apple menu > force quit : choose finder, and restart.
akin to killing explorer in Windows, and it restarting itself.
Maybe that will help...

I get that too, haven't worked out a fix yet, Its to do with the ATI drivers I'm sure as it was ok with the Intel GMA.

I've replaced all the 10.4.3 dependances with the ones from 10.4.4 that could be replaced but no improvement (although I've increased preformance by +10%)

I can't find what actually controls the mouse pointer (it could be built into the kernel but I don't think so) if I could identify that I may be able to start patching...

I'm using a Nvidia card unfortunately, but have either of you tried manually editing your ATI kext and adding the pci device id of your card, or adding your CPU to AGP Bridge ID in AppleI386PCI.kext so the system can recognize the card as AGP instead of PCI (unless you have PCI-Express of course). Just some ideas for you if you haven't thought of them already.

I've got the 10.4.4 restore disk, which kext's did you replace to get that performance increase and how did you go about replacing them?

Here is some interesting screenshots.


"Before" is just a standard screenshot of my normal desktop.
"After" is a screenshot of after I've exited out of a full screen application.

The After screenshot shows almost exactly the oppisite of what happens, so it's very interesting.
It shows everything but the cursor in a horizontal line mesh.

This leads me more to something with the refresh rate I have set.
Do these findings give any other clues as to how to get around this to anyone else?

Lachian, i got the same prob as you, and i'm afraid is due to our video card, ATI Mobile Radeon 9600 128MB, not being fully recognized by the system.

I tend to believe it's a matter of the video card being recognized as PCI when it's AGP. Perhaps there's some tweaking possible on the right ATI kext, changing the ID of our card.

We should try that possibility. Good Luck!

ps. one thing. My screen is not that blurred when i exit full screen; just the cursor turnt into a blurred line.

Yeah, my screen isnt' that blurred either, just the cursor. But when I took the screenie, that's what came out, which made it an interesting find.

Now I'm using a notebook with that same video card in it, do you still think that it's the "pci vs. agp" problem?

Another interesting find. After getting WoW up and running [1] and running it in Full Screen Mode, then exiting gracefully, the cursor was fine. (whew! *sigh of relief*)

The previous apps I had this happen in were Warcraft 3 and a Keynote 2 Slideshow. Maybe something is different with the way WoW does it's Full Screen.

it´s weird and interesting. the prob is right in pci-agp affair but there gotta be a reason why wow didn't spoilt your cursor. For me, Keynote does it all the time and any app that goes full screen.

Try investigate with wow and different settings, perhaps you could find out something great.
