Just today, after the Apple online store was down for a few minutes, Apple has upgraded the storage capacities for the iPhone and the iPod touch. Now, the iPhone comes in 8GB and 16GB, $399 and $499 respectively. The iPod touch now comes in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, for $299, $399, and $499 respectively. Sadly, the prices haven't lowered, they only increased space.

I didn't think the 16GB iPhone was gonna be out for another few months. Huh, that's cool then. Don't need it currently, but maybe around November. Maybe they'll have a 3G 32GB one by then? Yea that's kind of a push.

I'm pretty happy with my 8GB iPod touch. I don't have tons of music (only about 3GB worth), so I don't really see a need to have 32GB since I definitely can't listen to all my music nor watch all of my movies in one sitting without killing the battery (when I can't charge it at least).
But, on the flip side of the coin, I would love to be able to say that I've a stellar 32GB SSD drive in my iPod touch...

I'm almost certain it's SSD.
They couldn't fit HDD, and it would've probably been cheaper than the 8 gig.
Wait, I'm certain. 8, 16, 32..? Seeing a pattern?
It would've been 30/27.2 formatted if it was a standard iPod G5 Drive.

iPod touch and iPhone are 100% SSD. Soldered right to the motherboard.

yes because lower storage capacities are so much better than higher ones. Why have 8 when you could have 4 for the same price?
*sigh*
anyways, this is good. I also think I'll be getting an iPhone around fall or next winter... For now, my iPod touch is great!

I knew this day would come, but not so soon! I was expecting at least a year in between! I just bought my touch a month ago, o well, I used to have 4gb nano before and that worked out great so I dont care(much).

I was hoping the iPhone would go 3G when they updated it, but I won't argue with more storage...

I meant as a cheaper model like a 300 iphone and a 250$ ipt or 200$

I'm content with my 8GB iPod Touch. I have a super organized library for it of almost all full albums. I love What.cd

Still, once the cost of SSD goes down and we can see something like a 64GB touch, maybe the classic will no longer be sold?

Or maybe we'll have the terraPod

More likely, the classic will just be replaced by the nano, which would probably have a high storage capacity.

It wasnt the same price when I bought it. I bought my 4GB iPhone 2 days after the price cut on Apples website for $299. That is what they should charge if they bring it back.
This update is probably not sitting well with all of those kids that either got a Touch on or after Christmas. Why does Apple have such BAD timing with updating hardware?

I'm confused.
They haven't lowered the cost of the previous sizes for the iPod Touch/iPhone have they? Only added new sizes with great cost, right?
Although a 32GB iPod Touch sounds nice (would love to have all my movies on it (but then the battery life still sucks on iPods) not for $499! That's crazy price for media player.

What are you talking about? It's great timing for apple, they cleared out older inventory buildups over the holidays before introducing new things. It's how business works. I dont think Apple cares much about "those kids" who got a free gift and feel entitled to an upgrade just because they released something a few weeks later. Not only that, no price drops or anything, so your 8gb iphone or whatever is still as valuable as it was a few weeks ago

Well, this was what I needed to convince me to get one. Asked for a 16GB iPhone for mah burfdaye, and my parents hooked me up!

I'm lovin' it so far, and I managed to talk work into paying the service bill since it's actually cheaper than what they were paying for a smartphone with Verizon.
