http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/as5670.htm

The install went wel (i installed macosx_10.4.3_8f1111a_JaS_Patch_4.2b) only i got a few non working. The video, audio, and network/internet

Specs:
Intel® Mobile Pentium® processor Centrino™ Duo T2300 1.66GHz (Yonah Core, SSE3 compatible)
Intel 945PM Chipset
15.4TFT WXGA 16ms CrystalBrite (1280x800),
1024MB DDR II RAM (2x512),
80GB HDD Sata
Wired Broadcom 100/1000 Ethernet
Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

Is it possible to get, the video working (1280x800), to get internet working (trough cable or wireless) and the audio?

I updated my ati drivers, with the 10.4.4 kext drivers, like the site said, but the osx isn't booting anymore. It keeps on loading on the grey loading screen. I'm using the acronis dualboot method, is there a way to fix this problem or do i have to reinstall again ?

*update*
I reinstalled it again, and i got my broadcom working. thanx to tinman.

Seems like the safe bet is still buying a Mac laptop, and customized a PC desktop running OS X...

I fixed it again. I did pull of the power + the battery and now its working again. Probably it did go in safe mode afther getting to hot ( i had it on the couch with the fan on the bottom) and it goes out of that safe mode when it totally powerless. So back to the drivers biggrin.gif

I edited AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext with my Id's but when i load it, it give me about 5 dependency errors. Somone know how to fix those, because i think that's my problem from getting it not work.

com.apple.kpi.mach = 1

I can't paste from OSX to my windows directory so i can't save the txt file with all dependency errors, but somone knows a way to fix those?

I just got the same laptop (Acer 5672) and am trying to get the sound, network, and video cards working as well. If you have any working fixes or suggestions please post them.
Right now I am running 10.4.3 but am trying to get 10.4.4 running but have not been able to yet.
kenotic
I also have the same laptop. I did the ghost install of 10.4.4 and will work on getting everything else working. Any tips would be of great help.

Any updates with this notebook? I just did the 10.4.4 native install with the 10.4.4 DVD ISO and it worked but I got several .kext errors when it booted up sayting they were not installed correctly. They seemed to be all related to the keyboard, trackpad etc.

I would love network, sound, and video support so please update this thread if you find any working solutions.
It seems that MacOS on x86 is useless for me so far.
milesce
Check the wiki for sound, there's a link there on how to get it working.

All of the discussion of switching minipci cards got me interested, as I was using a toshiba A65, which was slow as h*** but networking was good (wireless and wires) on 10.4.4.

So I popped open both laptops. The Toshiba did have a Atheros MiniPCI. Unfortunately, the Intel 3945 ABG is not a standard miniPCI -- the interface is about half the size. Hmm. I don't know enough about newer laptop hardware to know if this is just a new standard or something peculiar to the acer.

- Edited -- Found this link, here is a picture of the card in the Acer. Not the same form factor as MiniPCI. Don't know if anyone else uses it. sad.gif

http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/...less_mobile.htm

Will read up on it. If I could swap out that card I would be happy. In the meantime, I think I'll pick up a USB wireless adapter in the morning, so I can at least get online.
milesce
Update -- the network interface is "minicard" which I wasn't familiar with.

Here's an atheros card (which should work, since 10.4.5 support atheros) with a minicard interface:

hello

I am kinda new at this, but i have been lurking around this forum for about a week since when i got my 5672. biggrin.gif

i got the audio working and now i'm working on ethernet/wifi/video
but right now ethernet is #1.

anyways i have installed the 10.4.4 which is pathced to 10.4.5 which goes around as: MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso

i have noticed that TheMessiah mentioned copying AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext into the IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins folder or w/e it's called.,
well i already had it there. i'm wondering if it's edited or something
btw the one that i have there i already have edited with my dev and ven id's

i also downloaded and installed MaC.OsX.10.4.5.Universal.Install.DVD(INTEL_AMD_SSE3_SSE2)
but this one i didn't keep since the keyboard and trackpad weren't working. there was some problem with the Apple...PS2.kext
external usb keyboard and mouse worked but it was too cumbersome.
so i am hoping someone can reply to my initial question about the AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext, i would like to know if it is anything special, if yes would one of you please email it to neopran [at] gmail [dot] com

thanks a lot
in the mean time i'll try other things....good luck and keep on hacking tongue.gif

well,for me, video is the no.1 biggrin.gif

ati seems doesn't do good work after they delay x1000 series's driver for linux.

Not yet, unfortunately. Too bad, because now that I've got wireless I'm working in OSX almost all the time. Two main issues because of the video -- can't load DVD's, and have this strange stretched screen (which makes it hard to do decent web design and be able to eyeball proportions.

Maybe I can convince the boss to buy a macbook pro once they work out the kinks.
neopran
how did you get your wifi to work ?
milesce
Until I can replace the internal card with an atheros one, I picked up a usb wireless -- D-Link DWL-G122. Search the forums on "Ra-link" chipset, you have to download the drivers for the usb adapter from their website. OSX doesn't see it as an airport adapter, rather as a built in ethernet.
milesce
Progress on the 5672. I thought I might try out some of the 10.4.3 or 10.4.4 extensions. I still had 25 GB unpartitioned on my drive, because I figured I might use it for Linux at some point, so I went to load the 10.4.3 patched cd.

When the system boots from the 10.4.3 CD, it recognized the built in broadcom gigabit ethernet card, which 10.4.5 does not.

The bad news is, I haven't gotten to 10.4.3 installation to boot. But, if I can just figure out which extensions we need from 10.4.3, might be able to get the built in ethernet to work properly. More soon....
TheMessiah
I did get the sound working, but i totally removed the OSX from my laptop. So i have no osx running anymore. I try to remember how i did get the sound fixed for you guys.

has anyone tried to use the ionetworking kext out of 10.4.5? i havent found out what chipset the wifi is in macbook, but my first guess would be the 3945, so maybe that will get our wireless to work. and what about the camera? anyone got it working?

Hi,

I´m a bit new in all this.I did install on my computer "MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz"

I´ve got a Pc with Gigabyte motherboard model:
- GA-81945P-G Intel 945P/ICH7 - P4 Socket 775/ATX -
- Graphics Card: Saphire 550x ATI RAIDEON
- 200GB HD SATAII

And thats it!

The only real problem I have is that I don´t know how to install my pci soun card construction.gif .
I`ve got an M-audio Delta 44 suposse to be compatible with mac and i did download
drivers from m-audio website, but it didn´t work, it says :

" Either tjer is not supported PCI Audio card installed or the driver is not installed ( or not loaded for some reason ). Please check that a supported card is installed and try reinstalling the driver"

My drivers all called "Delta_OSX_2.0.5.dmg" but I´seen that drivers on mac are ".kext" files.I did read what TheMessiah wrote but as I´m not english I dont know know if you did use shortcuts but I don´t understand what you say exactly to do:

Please Help Me Guys!! If you can send me pics of proccedure it will be CooL!;;))

I can imagine Messiah that all that instructions are for your sound card, but it might help me to configure mine. But I didn´t found anu ".kext" file for my PCI sound card M-audio Delta 44

Well If someone can give me a hand I´ll be very glad:Thanks every one for your Help,C U!! biggrin.gif

i also hv acer aspire 5672 wlmi. bt i hv ati mobility x1600 card, i dont hv sound workin neither ethernet card
any way to get it?
i hv broadcom netlink gigabit ethernet card
realtk hd audio( al 883)

Is a few days that i'm trying to fix the video / audio / ethernet for the acer aspire 5672 wlmi with the ati x1600 on osx 10.4.7 jas.
Video works without patch with QE/CI supported, but only at 104x768 resolution and a little artifacs on screen. But eventually isn't a problem.
Audio fixed (search in the forum how to install Realtek HD audio ALC88x), you must edit the device id in the kext.
Ethernet is a problem. I tryed every method for the Broadcom 5789E but is still inactive. Firewire works fine, USB ok, but obviously no WiFi support (damned Intel 3945), for this I'v buyed an Atheros minipci express wifi card on ebay. Sorry for my english.

Any idea for the ethernet drivers and eventually how to fix the x1600 artifacs and resolution?

Bigo

PS. Don't try to install the X1600 autoinstaller patch, video dies with black screen!!

Bye wink.gif
Tim Palpant
I've been working with this laptop for the past week, and have had no luck with either the ethernet, wireless, or video.

The boris method will give you perfect video on an external monitor (via vga), but there is no solution (that I can find) for the lcd.

Wireless is also impossible (most people just replace it with another, compatible one).

LAN should work, but I haven't been able to get it to.

Camera doesn't work and I wouldn't expect it ever to. But if you want Mac OS X that bad, you can sacrifice the camera.

Let me know if anyone gets ethernet (Broadcom 169d) or Video (X1600 Mobility) to work!
Bigomod
my camera is founded by mac os like an usb webcam but i don't now if really works. I'll try with ichat wink.gif
The problem is change resolution to obtain an 1280x800. For the wifi I repeat: buy an atheros card on ebay.
Mac load my AppleBCM kext, but I've an error: Memory map error, or something like that.

Bye
Tim Palpant
I get the same error! Any ideas why the kext would load but then fail? I think it might be something with Networking in general: I just installed a Dell Truemobile 1390 which throws a kernel panic (even though every report on this forum says it should work).

It's annoying because it's so close to working and yet it's still useless without internet.
TheMessiah
Oke a little progress update from me. I'm on 10.4.7, since i'm not getting 10.4.8 to work yet. Anyone here gotten 10.4.8 to work?

Video: X1400 - not working (reported working on 10.4.8 on external display with aty_caretta.kext)
Audio: Realtek - working with Azelia
USB - working
Broadcom 57x - reported working (can't get it to work? no kext available?)
Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Cardbus Controller - work in progress (url)

Anyone has different findings?
TheMessiah
I managed to get the Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Cardbus Controller working. So now you can use your PCMCIA cards also. Thanks to BugsBunny

He provided us with 2 kext files, that made the PCMCIA Controller Bus working.

has anyone found out a way to get the ethernet working or by now is this just a lost cause.

same problem with ethernet : map error for AppleBCM44x + link error for IONetworkFamily

laptop : acer travelmate 4001 wlmi (pentium m 1.5 ghz sse2), 512 mb ram, ati mobility 9700 64 mb, ac97 sound, wifi intel 2200 b/g.
ethernet : broadcom 440
installation : triple boot windows, ubuntu, osx (Jas 10.4.8 DVD amd/intel sse2/sse3) using grub as bootloader

res : 1024x768 (should be 1280x800 ...), no opengl (so no QE/CI)
sound : works but with some glitches (mic etc not tested)
wifi : doesn t work
usb : works but I have message about "ECHI overcurrent condition"
touchpad : doesn t work
sleep : freeze the laptop

So useless for now smile.gif (It's like linux 4 years ago rolleyes.gif )

I've got the same problem.

I've been trying everything to get my ethernet card working. It's a Broadcom BCM5789 - dev id 169d.

I've tried using nisa's and humanmx's drivers, as well as tinhead/hater, but I get the same error with both, as do some other users of the forum:

"dmesg | grep BCM" showed:

AppleBCM5751Ethernet: 0 0 Start - mapping device memory failed

Looking through the hex, that string is located around 0x0003DEF0, but I can't figure out where it's being called sad.gif

Tried to install ATIX1000 drivers from the unofficial 10.4.9 update. Driver is newer than in the 10.4.8 but still no resolution change and 1024x768 sad.gif
QE/CI work.

I think with the very non-standards setup the acer uses in its hardware its probably going to be next to impossible for osx86 to ever work perfectly. Drivers would have to be written specifically for this machine. I've been keeping my eye on this site for months now waiting to see if maybe there was a way but i think I'm just going to sell this and get a macbook.

The hardware compatibility of this laptop is not the best. I'm using USB wireless adapter to have network working. Sound is working. But the video adapter's work is not good. QE/CI and no native resolution. It's too sad but I think that the buying of the the macbook is the best way. sad.gif

I bumped this topic because of developments over the year. Anyone successfully running osx 10.4.10 on his laptop? I'm running 10.4.10 atm. I'm starting from scratch. There is an intresting topic running about the Intel 3945 a/b/g integrated wireless here

Anyone have some more information about their Acer 5672? I'm aware there are also Acer Aspire 5672 with Mobility Radeon X1600's. Anyone any luck with the X1400 on internal display?
TheMessiah
10.4.10 Status

X1400 - QI/CE working no resolution change
Cardbuss - Working
USB - Working
Sound - Working
Network - Rt2500 sweex card working after changing en0 to en1

So the only thing of holding it off i changing the resolution, on the internal display. Are there any developers on this forum who are capable of fixing this issue? Because it's the only card that's not working yet on OSX
