How to format the Sony Ericsson w580i memory stick on a Tiger OS?

To delete the files is not enough. Although it has no files in the folders it keeps saying that "There´s not enough memory".

The solution I found is to copy all files to my computer. Then format all files (including bloqued files like "MEMSTICK.IND" and "MSTK_PRO.IND") and then copy all back to the mobile phone.

I don´t feel too secure doing it like this.

Do you have any suggestion?

I've got an answer on macosxhints Foruns.
I was not emptying the trash before I disconnect the mobile phone.
