I have just 133 posts on insanelymac, 120 of them are helping Javalui to develope the driver making tests and hacks, now i have picked a 4965 intel wifi, so if javalui needs more testers about this card i can help using 3945 or 4965.

What i would like, is see his posts, so people, just keep quiet and wait for him. And if you cant read the whole thread, at least read the first post and wait...
Please moderator, consider to erase my post as the more important ones are Javaluiīs.

Hi Pere ,
Guys , i know this isn't the right place for what i am about to ask , but , as my english is very poor (Brazilian guy here biggrin.gif ), i don't even know how to look for this...
Anyway...Pere , i can see that you own a vaio , and for what it looks like , it has the same chipset that mine has...
i have a vaio with intel x3100 965 , the same wifi card as yours , 4965 , the problem is that i just can't pass the boot...ever time it finishs installing it , and it looks like its going to get in the Leopard system , i get a very weird screen(this is what i don't know how to descrive it) it dosen't show me nothing , it is just a bright screen with most part white and same pastel colors , with little lines ...yeah..i know , my english sucks..sorry...hehehe
Has i could instal already in two HPs and even a Packard Bell(brought from Spain) and the only two machines i can't get it with Leopard are the two Vaios i got here

Is this same issue with the Vaios?Does this happened with you?Is there any workaround for it?Am i jus too stupid to get OS X???hehehe..

Sorry again guys , but i couldn't miss the oportunity...
pakopeloz
hey i own a vaio too and i had the same problem. i got the solution: delete the natit.kext ant the appleintelgmax3100.kext and boot with -v -x get the pack of drivers with the program to set the resolution of your screen and it would work my vaio is working well exept for the wireless4965.

I saw it mentioned briefly in this thread earlier, but noone seemed to notice --

FreeBSD has a driver "wpi" which supports the 3945 card.

The latest version, as of this post, can be obtained here: http://people.freebsd.org/~benjsc/download...ebsd-wpi.tar.gz

Compared to the iwidarwin and the iwl3945 it's based on, wpi is considerably smaller and simpler. The code is much easier to understand.

jalavoui has certainly put a lot of purposeful effort into forcing iwl3945 on OS X, and I'm actually rather impressed that it's gotten to the point of being able to init the card and scan for networks. Looking at the wpi code should be very educational in getting the card to associate and form a connection.

This card is the only thing stopping me from installing OSx86 and I know driver-level programming on other OSs, so I spent a few hours reading completely the Apple driver development docs. It doesn't look too hard... maybe I'll try writing a driver (based on wpi) too.

Some misc information I got from reading through wpi that might be of use to jalavoui, since apparently the init process still isn't working 100%:
- boot firmware init should take at most 1000ms
- main firmware init should take at most 1000ms
- wpi queries the card 1000 times, waiting 10ms between each try, when transferring the firmware. The maximum wait is 10 seconds (rather long, but maybe needed due to interrupts/other things happening on the PCI bus)

That would be awesome, it seems like any development of a driver has slowed or stopped. So many machines have the 3945 card, mine included...and a laptop with no wireless is pretty much useless in my opinion.

Let us know if you decide to try writing a driver...I'm starting to lean towards buying a new wireless card, but if the driver development starts to pick up again, I'd wait.

Hi there,

I ve been reading this topic for a while, I have also got the 3954 card. But with the Kalyway 10.5.2 version my wireless lan and ethernet event dont listed in the hardware profiler. What about u? Do u see the card in the profiler? Is it necessary to install the airport driver at the beginning in order to see the 3954 card listed? Thanks in advance.

He said the broken bios laptop was a gift from a friend and he was going to buy a cheap Acer more compatible, so i think, what happend is Javalui is on holydays, like most of people... just wait till he come back.

hey

iv just intalled this on my acer travelmate 2400 and it doesnot work and when i launch networkSelector it exits saying: 'Could not get ID for kernel control. 2 logout'

But im not sure if mine is really an intel 2200gb because in the (user guide it says the travel mate 3210 has this intel chp but for my 2400 it simply says "Integrated 802.11b/g Wi-FiŪ CERTIFIED™ solution,
supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology" so please point me in the right direction?????

Why dont you look for example with everest what chipset you excactly have in your computer?

Does anyone know any thing about how the tape on contack 20 trick on the 4965agn? Is there anywhere I can look for help getting this card to do anything with a MAC? Thanks!
CharredPC
Tester11: The tape trick is only to manually forced a wireless card to stay powered on. It solves the issue of booting into OS X and not having a software method of powering up the card. If you need more info on it, use search. Use Google. It's widely publicized.

Pretty sure it isn't going to help with your card though. Besides being powered up, you need driver support.... which doesn't exist yet. And at risk of being attacked, it very well may never exist.

My advice to everyone is to look at when this thread started. Look at today's date. If you aren't comfortable waiting that long again, spend $15. Buy a replacement card, swap yours with a Windows-only friends', whatever. I swapped my Intel 3945 for an Atheros 5006EG (from a Toshiba) and never looked back. It works natively; it performs great. Of course, being on an Acer Extensa 5620, I don't have working Ethernet either; probably never will. It was that or have NO net access on my otherwise awesome Hackintosh.
thomaske
yeah same story here, bought atheros, Jalavoui dit/does a great job, but if you can't wait so long just buy another card. But anyway, I will follow this tread till the end!

great job jalavoui keep up the good work

Ok I bought an Atheros AR5523 usb but now I cant seem to find anything for it? Let me guess this is not supported. Does onyone know if this can be made to run? Iam going to install 10.5.4 today will that run this card? Thanks.

As a temporary solution, I picked up a Hawking Technologies HWUG1A USB wireless adapter at BestBuy for something like $40. Works perfectly. Download driver from Hawking Tech site and away you go.

But, I, too, am optimistic. smile.gif

LapinMalin,

I'm having the same problem. I get BUS ERROR when i try connecting to a WEP access point thru NS (terminal) or if i use NSGUI I just get a loading circle after entering the HEX/TEXT key but it never connects.

THere are so many people stating that got this driver to work (iwi2200) yet none seem to share what they've done to get it to work.
LapinMalin

Sorry WILL V, it work perfectly for me.
But i must type wep key for each reboot sad.gif

I use Kalyway 10.5.1 and no problems with 2200 driver.
2 weeks since I formatted and installed a kalyway
quizaine times on my pc, I will try to
explain how I do. if it can help you ...

1) open NSGUI and clic on connect with your wep key

2)open network preferences, enter your network name, choose airport and clic for "advanced" .
TC/IP choose manualy and enter
your IP 192.168.1.xxx
masq : 255.255.255.0
your router : 192.168.1.1

3) open safari, and clic network diagnostics
Then i don't know what you do it, clic for continue, continue, continue...
Sometimes it work for the first time, sometimes i must reboot, close and open NSGUI...
BUT FINALY IT ALWAYS WORKING

iwi2200 works under kalyway_10.5.2 which is upgraded from kalyway_10.5.1, WEP is also confirmed working. Just make sure to use XX:XX:XX.. format when typing WEP key. I'm using 40-bit key, and have DELL D6000.

Thanks all developers and supports here for giving us the wireless access on Leopard!

Hey there Heavencat!

Could you specify what do you mean by xx:xx:xx format? I'm able to see my access point; however, when i try to connect thru the NetworkSelector (terminal) i get BUS ERROR or if i try the NSGUI after entering my WEP i get a loading circle then nothing happens? I was wondering what you meant by xx mode?

Thanks,

Thanks for providing me with this info LapinMalin!
Last night is spent a few hours trying to figure out how to get the iwi2200 drivers to work. Every time i enter my WEP key in NSGUI (with HEX checked or unchecked) i just get the loading circle but nothing happens. I dont know if its supposed to show connected, give you a pop up message, or even an error message cuase nothing really happens. If i try to open Network Preferences the window closes itself within seconds which does not let me make any changes, and if i try connecting thru the NetworkSelector (terminal) i get BUS ERROR when i enter my wep key.

I guess i'll re-install Leopard again and see what happens (i'm using Leo4All 10.5.2)

Thanks for taking the time to reply though smile.gif

that's because OSX and BSD althought both UNIX based are different OSs, he's supplying it for dev help, it won't work in OSX, and I think those drivers have been posted before

hope that makes sense, it's 5am and I just got off an 11 hour work shift...

i took 2 days to make iwi2100 to work - i think i can do it for this drivers

Hey there jalavoui!

I dont know if its something that i'm doing wrong but i've re-installed OS X about 4 times trying to get the drivers to work, I've used the iwi2200 and the iwi2200 svn version; however, i get the same results. I'm able to see the access points around my house (including mine). when i try to connect using NSGUI i get prompted for my wep key. After doing so i get a loading circle and then nothing happens. I've tried with the hex decimal option checked and uncheck. I've rebooted a few times and nothing.
I even noticed that after installing both versions of the driver, Network Preferences crashes (closes itself) within seconds of me trying to open it.

Any suggestions?

Where are you now with hardware problems? I'd rather make a donation to the development of the 3945 driver than buying a new card, but I'm not really convinced there will be a driver anytime soon.

jalavoui says something and disapears for a long time. so what's up with that get the card working and we'll all donat.

ok wat exactly do u mean 3945abg working but wifi not working??? is ur wireless card being detected as airport and r u getting any connections?
rojotemate
I din't mean an air port. in safe boot my 3945abg card work as a usb wireless card. but on a normal boot is not detected.

I'm new on os x so I don't know if what i say is obvios or not.

mackie_mac
aha ! Intel 3945 abg is the most popular wireless and if there is no support for that i wouldnt have installed kalway in the first place, since my ethernet also doesnt work (its broadcom 590x), so whats left now .. I can live without sound or video, but wireless/ethernet is critical ..

Wish there was a solution on this soon. I can contribute to writing the code if there is a how to (i mean if someone can put how to write a driver) since i have the hardware and i can download XCode etc.

oops i found quite a lot of information at http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=71779

Where did you picked this driver, can you be more specific??
I have check this driver and it doesnīt assign any hardware mac adress to the card.... it is impossible to make it work if itīs not recognized the hardware properly... It remember me to the first driver released for the IWI 3945, it just showed the Airport config and nothing more.
In the logs i get "disabled interrupts", that means the hardware is not working.
Please read all our effords to make this wireless card works before post , is so easy to play with the people feelings about this.
But if you really know the source of this driver and if itīs under development, please point use WHERE did you pick it and we will help to test it and debug along with Javaluiīs drivers.

Hallo

I worked with the drivers for Intel wireless 2100 long time ago when the first Tiger came out, and one thing I know,
that made the difference for working or not, is ethernet has to be "en0" and airport has to be "en1"
So check your networkinterfaces.plist in Library,Preferences and change it
Give it a try

Sorry for my english

Interesting - Partial Success for Intel 3945 ABG (My computer is Lenovo Y410 and i rely on intel for wireless, i have a broadcom 590x for ethernet which also doesnt work ha ha ).

I downloaded the latest DMG from http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/ and followed the process. After installing here is the current situation
1. No errors or problems , no kernel panic etc , it reports successful install.
2. I reboot and restart successfully.

1. ifconfig shows this as "en0" and it shows everything except that it shows status as "inactive".
2. using apples network util, i see this information, and also it shows vendor as Intel and it shows even 3945 ABG too.
3. I use networkselector (the command line one) which shows 4 options .
4. I select 1, to turn it on .. dont know if it turns on or not, since i get the menu back.
5. When i ask it to show networks (scan), it believe me shows the wireless networks and asks to select an unsecure network.
6. I make my wireless unsecure and then i again scan and select that.
7. It says trying to connect or something like that .. and menu comes back as usual again.

Thats it ... even after that network is not connected and also when i use the networkselector gui it says searching for networks and then hangs there , actually i guess the whole os froze i had to hard boot it.

So thats the status ! Any debug info required ? let me know, i can help. I am now struggling to see how to install xcode etc .. i dont think there are c compilers too, so even if i want to code i will have to struggle to download. i guess internet is critical for anything.

Keep up the good work guys !

Wow nice work there . Get Xcode man tongue.gif . internet is critical ofcourse.

And i have this idea. isnt there something like VNC ( screenshare?) in OSX? Why cant this developer simply logs into our laptops with all running and he can try some magic? Wont that be cheap and fruitful ?

krassi Vassev
Hi Krrr, I like your idea and I'm ready to give my details on vnc, even with afp, if necessary.

Thank you for your advise, I will find it out and reply to you later.

it because i was try already more than twenty of 3945dmgs it is

hard to find out please wait....................

Well I see this is in active developement, but I hope it gets put to "released" soon! I cant live without my internet...

i have mobileme. i would gladly give anyone access to it so they could use backtomymac and thus screenshare to my laptop for development. PM me if interested.

Hello.

Just want to say good work to all the developers, there are plenty of people following your work with great interest.

I have some questions.

I have the Intel Wireless 4965AGN, and have downloaded what seems to be the latest developed driver from this page:

http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/

I didn't experience any kind of kernel panic, or any other horrible problems for that matter. However, instead of activating the "airport" in the network prefs, the "ethernet" popped up.

Why is that?

Under ethernet, it says "ethernet cable unplugged", even though I have plugged it in, hence: it's not working.

I just wondered; have I done anything wrong during the installation, seeing as how the "ethernet" configurations appeared instead of the airport?? The possibility of me misunderstanding completely is largely at present, due to the fact that I am quite the n00b on mac.

Greetings from Norway, thanking you all for wonderful contributions.

My specs are as following:

HP Compaq 8510w Mobile Workstation
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700, 2,4GHz
4gb RAM

OS: Windows XP Professional dual Kalway Leopard 10.5.1 -- WORKING
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M -- WORKING
Audio: Intel AD1981HD -- WORKING
Wireless: Intel Wireless 4965AGN -- NOT WORKING
Ethernet: Intel 82566MM Gigabit -- NOT WORKING

lol no you haven't done anything wrong . and it's not ur fault . it's the driver , it's not ready yet or will not be ready anytime soon. and that happens to ur driver and the intel 3945 . it's not recognized as airport so that's why it's asking u to plug in the cable. so it's all wrong . anyways keep on checking maybe next year it'll be done. wink.gif

Now i know why it sound so familiar to me....
Ok, i explain you, SYMUC, started the 3945 ABG thread, and posted this "driver", but really is not a driver, just makes the system "think" it has a wifi connection, but the most important part, the really driver that make the card works, is not present on his driver, then, Javalui begin to help making the card driver work, but he found a lot of mistakes on the driver programming, and SYMUC dissapeared.... after trying several times, Javalui thinked was a better approach to use a network connection that an Airport connection to make it work, and had to rewrite the hardware driver for the card as SYMUC driver was useless....
Thats why the driver you have shows as airport but will not work... we have first to help Javalui to develope it as network connection and then try to make it airport compatible.
SO, whats the point? Just wait for Javalui news, as all of us here. (unless a real developer appears and help finishing the job helping Javalui).

hey guys i've read the topic about paralles for mac which says that:

"Parallels Server.(is the) Application that enables the user to create virtual machines and run them. Parallels Server acts between the physical computer and the primary OS and allows the virtual machines to use the physical computer hardware resources."

maybe my question sounds stupid but .... did someone tried to use the working driver from windows to get acces to the net trough this virtual server? i've would have tried it out but i dont have the osx since i was pissed of 3945 wink.gif.

chears to all the fellow sufferers!

I'm going to have a look to this software. The problem would be the consumption of ressources when running it.

yeah it will be indeed, but there is driver for win2000. so if it works i would try to instal some sawed off verson of win where the services and other bullsh are turned off, so it wont eat more than 100mb of ram, i gues. or there is maybe a possibility of using smaller unix distributions.

however, say what hapened!

Nice! Are you a driver programmer? How do you know itīs cause the resources?
