Heyloo all!

Fairly new to the world of macs, but loving it! Running a Dell D630, and downloaded the latest 3945drivers as neither my LAN or wireless are working in Mac sad.gif After installing the driver, I got a new network interface installed, however it shows up as Ethernet in the Network Applet, rather than an Airport Card. Going into System Profiler, it shows 'Ethernet - en0' but nothing under 'Airport Card'. Plugging in a network cable doesn't do anything either, which made me think that this is my wireless connection that has been incorrectly detected. Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm not too picky about the Broadcom LAN not working, but would very much like the wireless to work!

Btw, shouts go out to the devs for their fantastic efforts writing the drivers!

java,

i can send you a 3945abg card wich came out of a 6710b hp laptop. should work in your hp as well.
bought myself a broadcom card from hp part store for 50 euro. have native support on wifi now and this card is in the dust anyways here.
so i can send it to you from the netherlands.

as for peeps with hp laptops.
stuck on a intel card? go to hp part store online and search your laptop and see wich cards can be bought online.
for most hp laptops they also sell a whitelisted broadcom 4311 card wich works nativily as an airport.
cost 50 euro's. works guaranteed due it's a official hp part. smile.gif

for a 6710b hp laptop it's:
partnr: 441075-002
Broadcom 4311AG Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g mini PCI adapter card (Bevo) - 54Mbps data rate, 2.4GHz operating frequency range - For Rest of World (ROW)

only two more, hopefully we have enough money for that LCD soon so you can see what you're doing ^^

Edit: My thanks also go out to Andy from the UK for sending a card, and Chico from Portugal for sending in a 3945, thanks guys, keep up the good work.

Hey jalavoui, nice work on the iwi2100!!

Any ideas about the iwi2200 on 10.5? Wondering if there are some extra instructions I need to follow to get it to work right (Other than just install the DMG and restart). It's not showing up as an airport device or anything. This is the same system & iwi2200 card that worked on previous builds of iwi2200 for 10.5. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this. Installed Leopard 1 week ago, then applications, then searched how have my wifi work. No ethernet connexion here, so I can't use svn or other stuff that needs internet under mac.

I downloaded iwi3945 file (dmg) from the google code, and use networkselector.

I never heard of someone reporting that 3945 worked, but I could detect networks (!!! Was excited then). But association fails, it just brings me back to main menu. Here's the picture :
http://c.cool.la.vie.free.fr/LeopardProjec...ctsnetworks.jpg

Then, I wondered, a few things :
- I don't have a kernel panic, don't know why. I can maybe try your different versions and give you back my logs. Just learned how to get my system.log, ill give it next post here. I have an entire backup of my Leopard partition, so i don't take risks in testing your future versions.
- I'm not a mac programmer, but i have good roots. If there are commands that can be done to try associating to networks... It would be good. I couldn't connect either to an "ad-hoc" network (3945LeoTest on picture), either a non-secured (NeufWiFi on picture) network, though close enough. But I can't turn the card on/off, and I don't have access to the "mode" changing option. Maybe it's why I couldn't connect the ad-hoc network...
- Is it normal that the card is detected as an ethernet card, or did I miss something in the installation ? I have seen some pictures where the networks (maybe 2200) were detected as AirPort ones.

Well... Thank you very much for this developping, tell me if I can help, tell me if I missed something, tell me to shut up if necessary... and have a nice day !!

Hey folks,

well I'm as close to success as c_cool_la_vie is. wink.gif Installed mac os x 10.5.2 next to Vista & ubuntu on one harddrive.

Well my 3945abg is set as (en1).

Besides that I don't have any news.. I'm able to detect all available wireless networks but fail to connect.

I'm gonna try setup logging, etc... wink.gif

So long,

Jalavoui, Hey man its been awhile sorry haven't been helping much with the iwi2200. Kinda left it in a bad state my fault. What happened is my OS crashed and i got tired of trying to fix it and gave up but am now at the moment reinstalling 10.5.1 on my laptop so should be up in a matter of mins. I'll get back to work on this driver testing it for you and posting stuff. Once again sorry I have been away, school kinda does that to ya but hey i graduate soon so i might be doing this kinda stuff for a living smile.gif who knows lol.

Let me know what i need to do to get it back up and going again.

EDIT:

Ok Jalavoui got a problem, got it installed and it booted up fine into 10.5. Problem is its not connecting to anything like it keeps saying getting ip address... and then shows a list of the wireless routers around me. None connect when they should. What could be up? What do you need to work on it? This was with the stable drivers rev1195. Should i use the latest?
Syscon
sorry, i've got a question.

When I'm compailing the network selector for the latest iwi 2200 driver, I get these five error messages and the compile failture:
CODE
error:'u_char' does not name a type
error:'u_char'does not name a type
error: ''osswaplittletohostint16' was not declared in this scope
error: 'struct sockaddr_ctl' has no member named 'sc_len'
error:  'struct sockaddr_ctl' has no member named 'sc_family'

What can I do that it works?

I was looking through the BSD and Linux driver development. They modify the firmware on the Intel 3945. Jalavoui, is the plan for the drivers to just keep the original Intel firmware?

hello, I recently meet to this forum, I have an acer asprire 5920g with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500. I had installed Leopard 10.5.2 and I tried to found the drivers for my wlan card but I had real all the posts, tried some of the developed drivers and I had only panic kernels.

I know that macintosh is based in Unix and Linux is based or its similar to unix too, so... why don't try to get the linux driver for iwi3945 from intel and readapt it to mac Os X Leopard?

maybe you had tried this before but as I'm newer, I don't know.

thanks in advance for all your previous work!!! Thankyou for try to help all the people that have iwi3945.

Pepeluisito.

I found this adress:

http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net

good luck
FurmanSK
I believe this is what he's doing as far as taking the linux driver and modifying it to work with Mac. Now i know for sure he used it fro the iwi2200 one. Could be wrong about that with the ipw3945 driver. Anyways be patient he will have it done when its done.
thesr5
Ok the one thing that i dont understand is how come in my network connections it is saying there is a firewire when i dont have a firewire?

Should i buy the gigabyte wI01GT card?
hadis36
Ok doesn't this mean he has the card or he hasn't gotten it yet.

hagie92
Im not a developer, but the driver will be ready as soon as someone donates a card for them to work with, and, as far as i know, this is in process. They are working hard and are doing a great job. I would say it would be ready SOON, but not like tommorow soon.

Wait patiently and soon enough you'll be surfing wirelessly.

Also, In the first stages of the driver development, it seems that WEP/WPA encrypted networks are not supported, but may be included at a later date.

What about iATKOS v4i. would it work with the 3945abg?
Has anyone tested compatibility?

for the 427th time...

It Doesn't Work Yet.
hagie92
in iATKOS v4i, I would like to say that there are WAY less kernal panics then in ToH's RC2. I'm starting to learn my way around the new hac-mac world and I report that network selector for 3945abg DOES now see my card, it sees networks, but I have NO idea how to get it connected. If you press the corresponding number, (say it found the network Walksys, it would look like 1) Walksys, so you press 1...) After I do that, it says associating with network for about a second, and then goes back to the menu.

Do you know how CLOSE you are to having a working driver? There is probably like one little thing holding you developers off!

I do thank y'all for your help, and if you need my logs or anything, (and can direct me to where they are...) feel free to ask!

At this point, I'm beginning to suspect it might be an issue with my hardware since others are having success with iwi2200 on 10.5, but not me. I'll try your command next time I'm able, but otherwise I might have to work on finding a different laptop (I've tried multiple different iwi2200 cards and none are working, so might be a wireless controller or mobo problem)... Thanks again for everyone's efforts on this, I've actually tried loading various other Linux flavors on a different machine again, and really nothing stacks up to everything I like about OSx86, so I am very happy to keep pursuing this project even if it is quite a bit more work!

airborne i have the same problem as you. i do verbose boot for my 10.5.2 kalyway install w/speedstep kernel on my thinkpad t42 and i can see an error message about iwi2200.kext everytime (cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extensions: S/L/E/iwi2200.kext). I get the error code 2 thing when I try to run networkselector, and kextstat | grep iwi returns nothing, so i am assuming the kext is not properly loaded.

i have no idea what im talking about, but i think this has something to do with the fact that the wifi card not being turned on when booting up OSX. i dont see the led indicator lighting up. the reason i believe this is because my bluetooth is turned off by default; on my thinkpad both wifi and bluetooth are turned on/off with the FN+F5 keys. i tried turning them on when i was in osx, but fn+f5 had no effect. then i tried sudo kextload s/l/e/iwi2200.kext in terminal, and suddenly my bluetooth led lit up and bluetooth was detected by the OS and installed. after i did the kextload command, i can turn my bluetooth on/off with fn+f5, but wifi is still undetected by os. i don't know where to go from here.

hope that helps someone in some way to troubleshoot this.

my laptop has a 1.7ghz pentium M cpu, and whatever mobo comes with a t42. i have 1gb of ram and a radeon 7500 video card.

Hi Jalavoui,

same problem with my Packard Bell Easynote M67-P007. If I change Wireless Card from 3945 to Broadcom cheapset (tried with original MacPro Airport Card and Toshiba Card) it locks. If I power on my computer WITHOUT card it go fine and when i'm making "hot-plug" with the broadcom card, Leopard freeze... I'm thinking there's conflict between this card and other components in computer (maybe touchpad SYnaptics...)

By now, I've changing card for Atheros Chipset and everything work fine...

I'm safe but I hope you'll find solutions for other people... but thanks for your determination.

Benny

hard to tell, the 4965 seem to be the default card for the hp model even if g7000 is a series and on the hp site there are more than 80 models. i know (readed on a site of a seller) that intel cards works only with intel chipsets while hp's using ati use the broadcom wireless (not 100% sure of course)
May be that your pci-e slot has gone? may be a bios lock? owners of hp models may know
Try ask chico where he got those cards, if he got it from a trash or from broken notebooks, i work with notebooks everyday and i've seen failures of any kind, but i don't remember of a broken wireless lan card

I think I once saw a solution to that. I'll search for it

EDIT:
Think I've found the solution. You have to flash your BIOS with a custom made. http://www.rechner.org/b1800_bios.html I hope that this is the right manual.
This is another manual: http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~mjg59/thinkpad/bios.html The procedure is nearly the same.

yep, the macbook as the same bios protection
if the cards are ok (i believe so)
i'll patch the hp g7000 bios with the vendor/id of iwi3945/4965
if i manage to do this i can make the drivers work smile.gif
and i'll trash that bcm43xx card from the hp

i think chico got this cards from acer computers

from what i read all it takes is a bios image file and a search for the original vendor/id of the facory wireless
them replace with other vendor/id
maybe i can add something like 8086ffff to work for all intel cards
i think this will work for other laptops too

All sorts of info and howto's for removing the whitelist from the HP Bios(I've not done it myself, as you are still working on the 4965 I have), but I have modded my F.53 bios with Phenix Bios Editor(OverClocked my 8400m GS) You'll need XP or Vista, but it does work.

all hp g7000 laptop family use the same bios update
the f.33 bios version installer came with a compressed firmware device (.fd) file
this file is patched to bios using insydeflash.exe
i need to find a way to extract the .fd file or get a .rom bios file to hack the wireless list
the f.31 bios update works but it includes a .fd file also
