As you may or may not know, i run a Forum based website with MasterOfComputers.
The website of late has been having major issues with server problems, and then we had the incedant with the "Turkish Hackers..."...i was wondering if anybody who can help the website out, I.E convert it from SMF to word press, make themes, manage a forum, would be interested in join. will make u admin.
If this is considered spammin, then deal with it, as its not inteded thatway. i am simply looking for ideas to help make my website better. i will in now way be encroachin on InsanelyMac.

Convert SMF to WordPress? blink.gif You do understand that SMF is a forum system and WordPress is a blogging platform so they have nothing to do with each other? If you want I'll remove SMF and install WordPress but I don't think thats what you want...
skyhighmac
I think he wants the theme on smf to wordpress.

i do want to convert it to a blog, Wordpress
we need people and a blog of all the lastes news may work better than out {censored} forum...

OK I'll set up WordPress for you if you want...its pretty straightforward, no harder than setting up SMF.

Well wait a day or two, think i will do it myself, once i switch server..

Just curious... why don't you post for forum suggestions on your very own iNerd forums, rather than on here? lol..

Well Colonel, to put it simply, our forum is {censored}, its no where NEAR as good as IP.Board, and we don't have enough people joining as members....

If you have enough money you could purchase IP.Board 2.3. Its $149.99 for a standard license and a nicer option is forum hosting from IPB which is $10/month. You and MasterOfComputers could split the costs if he agrees.

Another very low cost option is: Register for a free account at a free IPB host like http://invisionfree.com that hosts an IP.Board forum (although in most cases you don't get the latest version of IPB, in fact they host old versions like 1.3) and then register for a domain with some registrar (its pretty cheap) and then forward that domain to your free forum hosting address. This method is not good for big forums but if its a small forum then its a viable alternative.

Theres no doubt that while SMF is good, IPB is much better, but if you can actually get SMF to work properly (from taking a look at your forum it seems that SMF is not working properly) then its a good experience. It seems that you don't have a good host so switch to a cheap hosting plan from a big company like 1&1 or Siteground and everything should work out smile.gif

Can't spend money..trying to work stuff out with host...i see him at school tomorrow...

What if sombody was to host the green demon? would people love them? what size server would they need?

I don't wanna sound mean but there is no one in the world other than maybe Deimos (founder of Demonoid) that can get Demonoid back up and even with him there's no good chance its gonna work out. "Somebody" can't host the Green Demon. You'd need immense resources and you'd better have qualified lawyers too. They'd need TONS of server space and bandwith just because of the sheer traffic.

And Demonoid's gone down twice and this time, it seems for good so theres no likely chance that anyone will be able to get it up again, especially with the Canadian intelligence behind them wink.gif
