Hi all, this is what I came up with, thinking about something already available at the national online store...
I'v read that the mobo should work out of the box, what do you think about this config ?
Asus P5b-Vm 97,20 €
Intel Core2 Duo E6420 Box2.13GHZ, 178,90 €
Corsair 2x1gb Ddr2 DDR2 PC5300, 667MHz, CAS5, 70,90 €
Hitachi 160gb S-Ata2 7200RPM, 8MB CACHE, ROHS 48,90 €
Sapphire X1650pro 512mb RADEON X1650 PRO, PCI-EXPRESS 16X, DVI, TV-OUT 63,60 €
Dvdrw Pioneer Dvr-212 BkDvdrw +/- PIONEER DVR-212 BLACK SATA
Will it work ??
If so, I'm gonna order it and let you know.
Thank you guys.

Yeah ! Got the Hardware and Leopard working with it !! I'm actually writing this from Leopard !
Crazy, I can't belive it's working that well.
I used the Leopard flat image that I dd'ed from Linux ubuntu to a SATA disk. No DVD, since I'm still downloading Kalyway's.
First thing is that I had to set SATA/ATA to compatible mode, (with the enanched mode, I was getting the "still waiting for root message") also the hard disk must be connected to the first sata port (1 or 2, 3 and 4 are not working).
Second I had to mount the Leopard partition from Linux (forcing the hfplus mount, as non journaled) and then deleting the AppleIntelCPU extension (since I was getting the HPET message..., preventing Leo to boot).
Now I'm looking for a partitioning tool to grow up my leopard partition...
Any hints on that ? GParted (in ubuntu linux) can only shrink the partition, haven't tried partition magic yet.
Hardware:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13ghz
Asus P5B-VM (Intel G965)
Nvidia Geforce 7300GT, PCI-E, 256MB
RAM, Kingston PC 5300 DDR2/667 1GB X 2
HD, Hitachi Deskstar 160GB S-ATA2
DVD +/- Pioneer DVR-212 SATA

Update:
Microphone input is not working.
Time machine cannot find the IDE disk when it starts its scheduled backup. (I can, by the way select the IDE disk while choosing for the target device...) So the IDE disk is seen by the OS but Time Machine cannot find it when it start the scheduled backup oparation.
Networking OK
Audio OK (no mic input)
USB OK
DVD OK (burning OK, using toast)
Firewire, not tested yet

I installed Leopard with Kalaway 10.5.1 using following configuration:
Asus P5b-Vm
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Corsair 2 x (2x1G 6400) = 4G
XFX GeForce 7600GT 256M 570MHz
WD 500G 7200 RPM 16MB SATA
LiteOn DVD-RW DL LightScribe SATA
Almost everything is working, including LAN & Audio. I used Azalia patch for Audio. Restart & Shut down don't always work properly from Apple menu, monitor is rippling after waking up from sleep.

I don't use it, so I didn't even test it.
Solved the problem of rippling monitor after waking up by using DVI port closer to motherboard.

That sounds very very sweet indeed.
We're on
ASUS P5B-VM DO
QX6600 stock clock
OCZ cheap vista upgrade RAM
2x 250GB Seagate Barracuda drives
Pioneer DVR-212 Optical
And it has been a nightmare getting it to boot the installer, we've had a bunch of images, and it hasn't been fun.
We've been experiencing a few vague almost boots using SATA Pioneer Drive, and Kalyway. Hangs on boot from installer, "can't find boot disc on UUID address" bizness, occasionally some baud rate (very low) comms issues. We suspect that the issue is the southbridge controller being incompatible with the insaller boot. Going to try patching the installer with ICH8 kext.
We're going to try using a USB external drive to boot, and perhaps mounting the hard disk over USB too to install onto. Apparently there is a Patch for ICH8 southbridge, PM for link, haven't got it handy on this mac.
We're also going to give BrazilMac a go, since he used a P5K mobo to develop on. Any ideas about whether this is a good way to go?
We are also planning on giving it a UNIX attack, using a DD command writing to the drive from an image to get the installer alive on a drive rather than a DVD, skipping the first 63 sectors of the image, and using GRUB as a bootloader rather than whatever is already on Kalyway. I get the feeling that a NIX approach might be favourable. Also, the EFI thing is clearly a good 'un, since that's true to the apple spec. Any help on this matter? We've got a partition on our drive which is 200MB, and comes up as EFI. What's it doing there?
Any help most appreciated!! Feeling a bit Noob'd out.

The on board graphics of the P5B-VM are not supported, I don't think any drivers exist. You will need to buy a cheapo nvidia graphics card to get full QE/CI. Check the Wiki for one that works.

Yea, the trick to solve the blinking at startup after installation, is to "zero erase" the hard drive using disk utility on the disk install. The only thing is my sound doesn't work and neither my networking.

hello guys, i try with Calyway Leopard and with Jas 10.4.8, but i keep getting this error....
system config file /com.apple.boot.plist not found
With other motherboard and with the jas dvd everything are ok, but with P5B-VM, i get nothing.
What is the "zero erase" expression, format?
Because the H.D is not formating, it has data(xp)....does this have to do with something????

Emilios,
try using an external DVD drive USB/SATA. There is no problem with the installers but with the JMICRON controller. I should have bought Gigabyte mobo instead of this ASUS P5B-VM which has a lot of negative feedbacks.
Good luck!

Howdy Hackintoshers,
I just built a system around the Asus P5B-VM mobo. I get no image on the monitor when I power it on. Shouldn't there be some kind of image on the screen even with no OS installed? I've re-seated all the RAM, checked all my connections, the green LED on the mobo lights up. I just don't know what could be wrong. Any chance the clock battery would cause trouble?
System specs:
Asus P5B-VM
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
Buffalo 1gb PC2-6400 x4
XFX Geforce 7600GT
Pioneer DVR-212 SATA
Seagate Barracuda 500gb SATA
Thermaltake 600w Power Supply
Lian-Li PC-A05B case
Also, do I need a PS/2 keyboard to get into the BIOS or will a standard Apple USB keyboard work?
Any info or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jason

2days ago, just installed ToH releas, pc efi 8.0 and update to 10.5.3. To conclude, the system seems snappier and much more stable. Thanks for LastExile for helping w/ Natit and Efi (more info available at netkas.org, including detailed instruction how to upgrade to 10.5.3).
Running vanilla kernel from 10.5.3 update and also 10.5.3 AppleSMBios.kext from update.
Restart and shutdown working but have to wait around 10-15secs after black screen. No worries.
Sleep working but after awake wireless logitech keyboard and mouse not working, no worries since the comp never off.
In Tiger 10.4.10, it was recognised as mac pro in system profiler, but now unrecognised. Not a big deal.
Usb performance much faster. Also HDD transfer rate also much better. But i notice the temperature also increase, previously max 41, now 48. And notice it didn't put to sleep either. So i installed noctua 9cm fan to help with the heat. Now it's around 28-32.
