Hi guys, maybe someone can help me out. i'm running leopard on an AMD system, everything checks out hardware wise, every other app runs fine, but iPhoto crashes when importing files, and itunes crashes when i choose any other view style, other than list... coverflow doesn't work. but it works fine on finder. so it doesn't seem to be a graphics problem. any help will be much appreciated. thanks

My iTunes crashes when I try to import music into it.

I have the same problem as described by JorgeCCastro. iPhoto crashes while importing files to library and QuickTime while I try to play an empeg files.
I've add some codecs for QuickTime to be able to play Divx Xvid AC3 etc. and they are working well (no QT crash), but still have a problem with an old qt files.

For those who (like me) cannot use iPhoto I recommend the Aperure (http://www.apple.com/aperture/). You can find it on the bay.
It is much more functional than iPhoto and on my system (Leo 10.5.1 AMD based) working well.

I had the same exact issue.

Here is the fix/solution for it:

I've solve my problems in more complex way. wink.gif
I've used Marvin's AMD Utility to patch the cpuids.
Just run the tool and chose "Patch all binaries" option, then chose whole MAC hard disk to search for binaries.
The operations of searching and pathing binaries could take about 20 minutes.
After that I've ran QuickTime with the file, that always crash it and this time it works like a charm thumbsup_anim.gif
I've also noticed that importing files in iPhoto works without any issues. biggrin.gif

Did you do this from a Tiger install or?

I will try this tomorow after I did a complete backup. I have the iphoto crashing bug.

Yea my iPhoto crashes when importing as well. My quicktime crashes when playing mpegs too, haha. I'm going to try the fix posted earlier, i'll see how it goes.

HOLY CRAP IT WORKED!

There was no iphoto related material in the log though!

So Fix for iPhoto:

- DL Marvin's AMD Utility and run it in Leopard (no need for tiger install)
- What I did now was first "Make list of Binaries" but I think you can jump to "Create Patcher package"
- Point them to your Leopard drive so it shows "/" in the dir field
- Now it should have built a cpuid.txt file along with the logs (if not be sure to make a list first then create package)
- Select Patch all cpuid's using cpuid file and uncheck simulation mode
- For CPUID file browse to where the cpuid.txt file was saved
- For volume/directory select Leopard again
- Run it!

Enjoy crashfree iPhoto lads

Thank you Shellcoder and Marvin!!!

depi, which method did you use, marvin's AMD utility or Parisi's fix?

Hi, both methods will work, i just tested the Marvin patcher and it seems to patch the same quicktime related files.

The reason why that issue started?

Well here is my theory: Assuming that all of you here like myself have installed the Quicktime update from the Apple Software Update, this update is fetched directly from Apple and it has not been patched yet for our AMD hardware and it will crash any app that requires the Quicktime "Framework" if that is the correct terminology, and that is why we need to use either Marvin's patcher or the already patched files i had provided earlier.

I am still going to recommend that you use Marvin's patcher since in my case it seemed to find and patch a few other key files.

But if all you need is the Itunes/Quicktime/Iphoto fix my files will do the trick just fine.

Problem occurred after updating quicktime to v7.3.1 in leopard 10.5.1.
running marvin amd patcher fixes the problem.
