Okay so I have had Vista now for about 6 months and I can't stand it! I tried linux but didn't really like it. I use Mac OSX on a daily basis at work and I have previously owned an iMac G5 and a MacBook Pro. I sold both of my Mac's to go back to PC...now I regret it. I have a nice XPS system with an Intel C2D 2.66, 4GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I would like to install Leopard and completely remove Vista...can I do this?
I have to be honest, this forum is definitely the most difficult to navigate and I am a member of 30+ forums.
I will go buy Leopard right now if I can be sure that once I install I won't have problems.
Thank you and sorry if this question has been answered before but all I see is dual boot info.

You can have that kind of certainty only with a Mac. But you sold them

Ok, well thanks! Looks like I will have to just sell the XPS in time or go back to XP? hmmm lol

I will be honest I have not yet done it myself. But, it doesn't look too hard. Basically you dowload a .iso off of a torrent site (use google) (dont do this its illegal), burn to dvd, install from that. Its big (its the entire operating system, but patched). Or, you can use brazilmac's (?) patch. You buy the leopard dvd (legally), copy it to your hard drive, dowload the patch, follow the instructions to apply the patch, burn the result to a dvd, and install off of that.
When you are installing you have all of these options about patches for chipsets, video cards, etc. Choose the applicable ones. Once you install, certain things may not work. You must search the forums (use google for god sake, not the forum search) for kexts that fix your problems, and then copy those to some folder (i dont know which one) and repair permissions to make stuff work.
hope that helped, coming from someone who has never done it

Sold your Mac's for a PC, whatever was you thinking, were you drinking with Bill Gates the previous night you sold them or did SteveB rape you?

Buy a legit Mac. If not wait for Netkas's EFI hack to be released, if you have an Intel C2D and a compatable motherboard you will be set =)

I went from XP Pro to Vista and have reverted back to XP. Vista looked cool - and that's it. It had some pretty cool looking features, but had so many problems.
XP isn't the best, but it's better than Vista.
I can't wait to get Leopard working on my PC, though.

Ha, it's like back in the old days of OSx86!
On topic, I'm not running Vista at all now, I reverted to XP for everything PC. Vista kept interfering with what I wanted to do, too many lockups and crashes. I just hope the app writers stay away from Vista-only versions when they release new code. I know that many big companies, including the one I work for, have said they won't touch Vista for a long time yet, so with luck heavyweight apps will support XP for the foreseeable future.

Anyone? I really hate Vista! lolI am currently on Linux and am not a fan of it either...I want Mac! Maybe I will just scrap all this crap and get a PowerPC G4...I just can't afford it right now.Look, I don't care about Leopard, how about Tiger?

First try Uphuck 1.4ir3. It's easy and small, and works on a great variety of different Intel processors and motherboards. If that works, then you can try and get Leopard to work, which is a bit trickier. Your motherboard is a Dell 0CT17, although that doesn't help us much. I googled it and I think it's based on the P965 Express chipset. You might wanna try cpu-z to see if it can ID your motherboard. The rest of your hardware looks great!

Good luck and keep asking if you need help

OK so P965 chipset. Here's what it says in the wiki for that. You can also search the forum, or ask for installation tips with the 965 chipset (ICH8)

I'm back! So I got sick of the dual G4, it just became to slow.
Anyway, I am back with my original set-up and I want to install leopard again...I think I have been gone long enough that there must be something new? I also bought a MacBook Pro again so I have mac but it would be nice to have Leopard on my PC.
Thanks in advance!

In Linux (hopefully any Linux) older versions of Adobe Photoshop should work just fine under Crossover Office:

It's a torrent. I can't link to it, but search on the pirate bay, mininova, demonoid (require membership), or best of all, Pizzatorrent.
You also need a torrent client to download the torrent. For windows, I recommend uTorrent, and for Mac/Linux, my favourite is Transmission.

I hear a lot of people complaining about Vista and I do not understand why. All my applications and everything work perfectly, the only time Vista starts to screw up on me is when I start tweaking it, installing another OS (screwing the boot loader) you know system wide changes liket that. I've had a good Vista experience.
P.S. Oh, I am excitied for OpenSuse 11!

I feel for all the the lost souls known as 'newbies' that buy a computer from the closest store possible, with a salesperson saying things like "latest 1.6gHz dual core technology", "massive 1GB of RAM". Then they go home with their new computer loaded with Vista Home Premium and load it up with downloaded applications not knowing what the word "uninstall" means, then start complaining when their computer starts getting slow because there is no space left for virtual memory and because their favorite program is Limewire...
All that time they have never heard the word 'Mac' even though they have a iPod, which plays all their music from iTunes that their friend installed because they didn't where to get it from.
Or should I feel sorry for them? Idiots....

that's because the resources that vista uses to support aero is stupid. it may look cool but all in all it's a junk OS that microsoft just wanted to push out and make fast easy cash without fully testing the software.
sadly i am using vista but i've custom built my computer and i've made it well enough that i can run vista at the resource rate that your computer would run xp. i am using 64bit vista with 8gb's ram on my other pc (video editing/picture editing/music editing,)
i can honestly say, i like xp better than vista.
although microsoft is coming out with windows 7, it will have the vista look, but will run at the speed and bit rate of xp.

Well we hope that its going to be as fast as XP, but Im sure it will be.
I dont know why everyone seems to hate Vista, whe I have a fresh install I usualy go and turn off a whole lot of stuff and that makes it generally faster. And plus, there are a heap of features that make vista so much better. Like multi-core support, proper multi-tasking, better memory managment.... stuff like that. If you tune Vista correctly it works really well.
