Full Version: Upgrading to 8800GT - Will Leopard work at all?

Hi,

Silly me posted my 8800GTS 320MB on eBay some 10 days ago since I thought now would be a good time to get an 8800GT (managed to get the price of a new GT for my GTS. Amazing how little research some people do).

Problem is: approx. 7 days ago I discovered that Leopard runs on my PC as quick and elegant as a Leopard should. I had not factored that in to my sale decision and now it was to late; the card had bids already.

I have read that the current 8800 driver will NOT support the 8800GT and new GTS (to be released in December and based on the same GPU as the GT).

My question is:
Will Leopard work at all with my new card (obviously minus the hardware acceleration for the time beeing)?

I can live with the fact that I can't play games etc. but going totally without Mac OS seems like a rude awakening from a beautiful dream smile.gif .

Any advice from people with unsupported graphic cards?

Yes it will work, even without QE/CI

Thank goodness! Thanks for that answer smile.gif

So to drill the point but a small follow up question:

So is the major drawback really just the 3D performance (e.g. gaming and such things)? Video playback and OS animations are still acceptable?

Thanks!

mmm...you'll have to just try it for yourself, obviously your compatibility is going to go down. But many features still work, like expose/spaces, the animations etc.
