My dvd burner is recognized in OS X and it works fine, but when I go to burn a dvd or cd, i can hear the media inside spinning really fast and then just wobbling in there and then whatever the program I use to burn just wont go. I have to set the burn speed to something slower than the drive is capable of handling...like 8x or 4x.

Could this be a drive issue? or is it OSX?

Hi Nykwil:

You are more fortunate than I am when burning DVD's in Mac OS X. I have Benq 16X DVD-RW (DW1650BK) running Myzar 10.4.6 and I haven't been able to burn single DVD (!) I have even installed PatchBurn software. I'm able to read DVD's and burn CD's.

Under Windows, I have no problem burning DVD's with the drive. Are you able to burn DVD's in Windows? Have you tried PatchBurn?

no i havent but usually this is what happens with any software i use:ill set it for fastest possible burn and I can hear the disk spinning and then a kind of loud grinding wobbling sound like as if it went too fast... then the cd will slow down and i guess i can hear what sounds like the laser trying to get a fix on the media. If i dont try to eject the disk it will keep going that way and it heats up.I'll usually eject the disk and the disk will look fine no marks or scratches.then ill put it in and try it again and usually after the 3rd or 4th time it will start burning.I could avoid all that time usually by setting a slower burn speed, but that doesnt always work.I just want more reliabilty it's becoming a pain having to worry weather or not the disk will burn

Nykwil: The 'grinding' and 'spinning' sound may be cause for concern. I had CD-RW Drive that had the same noise. I returned to vendor for exchange and the new one didn't seem to have this issue.

NeoGeo: I'll give "Burn" from SourceForge a try. Open Source has been a great resource for software.
