Gets farther but still errors--

The last thing I see in verbose mode is

NVDANV50HAL loaded and registered.
AppleHDAController::start ERROR no layout-id found.
NTFS driver 2.0 [Flags: R/O].
AppleHDA.kext failed to load: unable to locate 'layout-id' property.
yukon: Ethernet address 00:18:f3:53:48:d0

It's getting better, thanks a lot for helping me!

Does it boot ok with a vanilla install? I'd try to isolate the modifications and see if you could figure out what might be getting in your way.
digicide
Do you mean like the Kalyway and other old methods of installation? I haven't tried those because I haven't downloaded those DVD's and I wanted to be able to update from Apple....
digicide
This is so frustrating, I bought this board only because I've heard how Mac compatible it is, now I can't get it to work.

All I can think is that my video card is preventing booting-- I have an EVGA e-GeForce 8600 GT with 512MB. I sent an RMA request to Newegg so I can return it. Is this likely to be my problem? Can anyone recommend the best video card for our setup (and yes I've searched. a lot.)

Hi everybody

I am new on this thread
I have done a vanilla install of Leopard 10.4.5 on P5W DH Deluxe (bios 2704) with terminal from Apple retail DVD plus 10.5.4 combo update
I 've used hex string in com.apple.Boot.plist for Ethernet & Audio only

here are the modifications in Extention folder (don't use wifi at present)

Removed original

AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
AppleHDA.kext
IOAHCIFamily.kext (facultative but to get rid of orange hdd icon)

Added

AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext (you can mod to get correct ram speed and so on ..)
dsmos.kext
AppleHDA.kext
Natit.kext (for my ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT)
IOAHCIFamily.kext

Everything working perfect Wake Sleep Shutdown Reboot ...

EDIT: But i have a problem at boot regardless of Leopard ; hang at initializing USB Controllers... if i plug more than one device on usb ports
resolved : it was the usb hub of apple Cinema Display

Thank you
radlord
That USB problem seems to be something that loads of P5W owners have. I have it too, it's been a problem ever since the start as I recall, doesn't seem like it'll ever be fixed!

Anyway guys, I'm pretty clueless with this - can somebody please give me a hand with installing iAtkos v4 onto my P5W?

I just need to know which of the settings to check, I'm really not sure at all.

My GFX card is supported out the box, my HDDs are both SATA, and I'm using the onboard wifi and sound. I have my BIOS all set up, but could you let me know what settings in the actual iAtkos install need please?

I plan on installing OSX to a separate SATA HD and just swapping between OSX and Vista by the F8 boot selection menu.

Thank you!

EDIT:

actually it's easier if I list the options I'm not sure about:

should I check:

Darwin Bootloader?

Stock Files
- Apple ACPIPlatform.kext
- Kernel 9.4.0

Additional patches
- Darwin x86 for MBR (non-EFI)
- Kernel 9.2.0 ToH

SMBIOS Drivers
- AppleSMBIOS netkas
- AppleSMBIOS-27 6th rev. iMac
- AppleSMBIOS-27 6th rev. MacBook
- Remove Thermal kexts

System
- ext2fs
- NTFS-3G

Like I say, I know whether to check most of the options or not, it's just some of them I'm not sure about.

I'm planning to install to a separate HDD on my P5W-DH.

Thanks!
kdp
im fully functional, the only thing i want to know now is how to get it to bypass the prompt all together and not have to type 80 at all, because my apple bluetooth keyboard is not recognized until os x starts to load.

time to update this tread with all you need and make clear some things

ISO FOR USE TO INSTALL THE RETAIL LEOPARD DVD 10.5 + UPDATE YOUR LEO to 10.5.4 from internet using the apple software update tool without any problem:
http://www.mediafire.com/?gmwgcwrvjgg

PAY ATTENTION MAYBE YOU MUST PUT IN YOUR BIOS UNDER CPU CONFIGURATION THE MAX CPU VALUE LIMIT to [DISABLED] and then ENABLE it after the successfull Leopard install (under verify)
ISOS TO USE AS BOOTLOADER 132 AFTER THE 10.5.4 UPDATE:

07/12/2008:
Added HDAenabler (thnx to Kabyl), IOAHCIfamily, IOnetworkingfamily, Chun-nan PS2/USB kexts for mause and keyboard, JMicronATA and more...
http://rapidshare.com/files/129023748/BURNME.iso.html

22/07/2008
Another version with the SMBIOSResolver.kext (SDRAM memory bug but wrks fine in all) THNX to SUPERHAI (www.superhai.com), it works with original applesmbios FROM 10.5.2 and up
http://www.mediafire.com/?6j9wcsxszlz

With those isos you can install the retail leopard, run it and keep your extensions folder like the original macs computers, thnx to GALAXY for his work "the ramdisk is dammn fast", thnx to the others for this fantastic bootloader ( def, kabyl, zef, bumby and all the chameleon gang!)

After the first update for e.g. from 10.5 to 10.5.4 (YES NOW U CAN!!) simply reboot and use the other iso.

After the 10.5.x update you will lost the QE on video card... reinstall it, be carefull to delete the old drivers before reintall, reinstall repair permission.

Naw, that's not it. The 8600 GT works fine with this board. I have an 8800GT with 512 mb...the best thing to do is to dig into all the info you can find on using EFI strings and altering your com.apple.boot.plist file so that it appears with all the native modes you need and ditch the injectors. Once I did that, my graphics have been rock solid AND survives all software updates through Apple.

Don't get too frustrated, we've all been there. I swear I ended up installing OSX more than 100 times before I discovered the correct procedure for my rig. Yes I have the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe too and it does work. One thing I wished we could do with this thread is change the first post in it to reflect the correct BIOS settings for this board which would save a lot of folks some headaches.

Once you gain the knowledge, it's well worth it. I have an almost 100% vanilla install but I dumped all the "speciality" installs and went the retail route. The thread that worked best for me was this one:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=86167

Good Luck!

??? I have never had a problem with USB, works right out of the box. As I stated in a previous post, I went the retail/vanilla route. I would check either your BIOS settings or consider going as vanilla as possible. PS: have heard that a lot of P5W owners use the Kalyway distribution and it seems to work better...YMMV.

Aye of course not all people have the boot stalling on detecting USB devices thing, but I'm just saying that myself and loads of others have had it happen for ages, through loads of BIOS revisions sad.gif

Just curious, is it slowing down on boot because of the fan settings? Because I heard in another thread (P5W) that disabling all fan settings in your BIOS significantly speeds up the boot process. Anyway, it did for me.
radlord
Yep, disabling the 'Q-Fan' stuff in the BIOS helps a long POST.

But the USB stalling thing still happens to me at least sad.gif

You 're probably right, i'll have to try with another pair of disk or some kext i missed in the instalation

did you tried to configure a soft raid with disk utility and after hook it to orange sata ports ?

Not yet the time to but you probably can try to find device path with :

./gfxutil -f pci8086,27d8

here :

PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1b,0x0)

find the values with IORegistryexplorer

then edit this if it is different

in the manual:for best results use serial ata 3.0 Gb/s hard disk drives listed in the EZ-backup compatibility list.visit the asus website for details

because the steelvine controller is connected to the fourth ich7 port, the whole bandwith is only 3gb/s - so two s-ata I drives should bring also good results - but for some reason they donīt. tested it and better results with s-ata II.

softraid and then connect to EZ backup?? two different things .....didnīt try it, but Iīm pretty sure that EZ backup wonīt recognize the disks as a raid config...weired idea blink.gif

Strange network problem ASUS P5W DH Deluxe + Kalyway 10.5.1

Hi guys,
A few months ago I had succesfully install Kalyway 10.5.1 on my P5W DH Deluxe. Everything worked just like this link told "http://xiwen.de/blog/index.php/2008/01/07/der-perfekte-mac/" unfortunately this link is dead.
Another similar link is this "http://macapper.com/2008/01/19/diy-hackint...c-pro-for-cheap"
The bios settings of these links are the same. I followed these settings to install Kalyway 10.5.1. There is one thing I didn't folow. I chose MBR insteed of GUID; I did chose GUID first but ended up that installed Kalyway 10.5.1 only booted up with the install DVD inside the player. So I chose MBR and the installed Kalyway 10.5.1 booted without the install DVD.

My spec are:
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe with bios version 2206
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
Corsair memory 3 X 1GB
ASUS GT7300 Silent 256MB videocard
Nec DVD recorder PATA
Samsung 160GB SATA(I) HD
HD had 3 partition: Leopard, XP and Data. I had a dualboot system.

Recently I bough an Samsung 320GB SATA(II) HD and wanted to transfer Kalyway 10.5.1 from Samsung 160GB to Samsung 320GB by using the following methodes:
1. Back up with Carbon Copy Cloner 3.11 dierctly to Samsung 320GB (Leopard partition). Result: a blinking cursor.
2. Back up with Super Duper 2.5 dierctly to Samsung 320GB (Leopard partition). Result: a blinking cursor.
3. Back up with Super Duper 2.5 as a DMG file to Samsung 320GB (Data partition, this partition is Extended Journaled). Restore with Mac own Disk Utility. Result: a blinking cursor.
4. Back up with Mac own Disk Utility as a DMG file to Samsung 320GB (Data partition, this partition is Extended Journaled). Restore with Mac own Disk Utility. Result: a blinking cursor.

So I installed a fresh Kalyway 10.5.1 on my new Samsung 320GB SATA(II) HD using the same settings as I did with Samsung 160GB SATA(I) HD. After install and a restart, everything seemed OK. But there is no internet connection, because there is no ethernetacrd (that's what the hardware profile showed). Only the firewirecard is shown. It seemed there was no ethernet connection at all, the led at the UTP connector of the motherboard didn't light up or blink. Even the led of my router where the UTP cabel is connected didn't light up or blink.
There was also something weird with the connction. When I swich on the computer the led of my router where the UTP cabel is connected and the led at the UTP connector of the motherboard did light up!!! But when the Apple screen showed up (dark grey Apple logo on light grey background) I saw those leds turned off!!! It seemed there is wen somthing wrong during the boot procedure. But I still don't know what.
If I booted up XP (I have a dualboot system), there is network connection!

If I hook up the Samsung 160GB SATA(I) HD back, then there is connection again while in Leopard. I am sure there is no hardware issue.

Do anyone know the problem/solution?

Han S

the things you are talking about are all common problems. you will find all the solutions including the boot problem without dvd. use this http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=00948655...297:e41g72sr-ba

Iīm pretty sure that the reason for your network problem is that you didnīt choose the right options on the second install. the p5w mainboard is probably the easiest mainboard to install 100 % working os x on it wink.gif

Hi peach-os,

Thanks for reply. But I think read to fast; you missed something.
I have installed succesfully Kalyway 10.5.1 on a Samsung 160GB SATA1 HD. I had followed the instruction from the link (see above).
When I tried the same with Samsung 320GB SATA2 HD. After succesfully installed and reboot; there is just no network connection.
The only option of the network during install is Realtek WIFI. I never chose that both by install.

Can anyone tell me exactly what kexts are needed for our system. currently I am using the bootdisk from post 409 in this topic since its wrapped up as an mkext i can not tell what kexts exactly are needed to boot this system.

no - I did read.but personally I wouldnīt consider having os x installed on an mbr partition instead of guid because of the dvd boot problem is a success. you will miss a few advantages. there are much better instructions in this forum than on that site you used. in this thread you will find almost every solution
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=68453

installing kaly 10.5.1 there are network settings for the pw5dh (not wireless). an other possibilty is that you install the IONetworkingFamily.kext from your working install.

you can make a new com.apple.Boot.plist with this string (ethernet and Audio ALC882) in textedit
replace your existing and then launch EFIStudio to add 8800 GT string

no you've to delete ALCinject only and keep ypur patched AppleHDA
and repair permissions

cd /
sudo -s
chmod 1775 /
chown root:wheel /
chmod 755 mach_kernel
chown root:wheel mach_kernel
chmod 644 Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
chown root:admin Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
chmod -R 755 System/Library/Extensions
chown -R root:wheel System/Library/Extensions
rm -R System/Library/Extensions.mkext
diskutil repairPermissions /

reboot with F8 -v -f

I'm having a strange issue with sleep.

The machine will sleep and wake correctly exactly once. After that once, if I try to have the machine sleep again, it will not enter a full sleep mode. The ethernet device will turn off and it sounds like the hard drives is spinning down, but the fans keep running at normal speed, and the system will not wake.

The first time, if I try to wake from sleep with the keyboard, the screen will not power on. It works (just once) when I wake the computer by using the power button. I don't really mind the annoyance of having to hit the power button, but a sleep function that works only once isn't much better than having a sleep function at all.

I've tried this several times, with a variety of BIOS settings. (It will only sleep once set to S3. Resume video BIOS on wake doesn't seem to matter) I don't see any consistent notices in the system.log file.

Specs:

ASUS P5WDH
4 GB ECC RAM
ASUS GeForce 8800GT 512MB (Nvinject)
3 Samsung LCDs connected to a Matrox TripleHead2Go (the OS is only aware of a single "monitor")
Pentium Dual-Core E2140 @ 2.66GHz (bus overclocked to 1333, nothing else overclocked)
IBM Model M keyboard connected to Radio Shack PS2 to USB adapter
Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB
Macnally FireWire enclosure with 500GB drive for Time Machine
2 Seagate SATA 160GB drives, 1 with OSX, 1 with Vista
1 WD 1TB GreenPower SATA drive

Any ideas? Thanks!

Edit:

Forgot to mention:
Using Kalyway. Installed of the 10.5.1 CD, system has been upgraded to 10.5.4.
I am running the AHCI fix to get rid of the orange icons, and NVinject.

You don,'t have to fix AHCI with this mobo keep the vanilla if you want to get rid of orange icons the only kext to mod is IOAHCIFamily.kext

here the definitive list of modification to get what is far the best mobo i've tried (with perfect sleep and wake)

Remove only :

AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

Mod :

IOAHCIFamily.kext (orange icons)
AppleHDA.kext

Add :

AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext link
dsmos.kext

com.apple.Boot.plist (with efi string)

About WIFI ; i can't get working with the realtek driver the USB WLAN application jump in the dock and that's all
If someone could help me

Thank's to all

I tried the Boot 132 iso listed here and on that thread and neither let me get past the space desktop. The one listed here tells me to restart on the white apple screen and the first one on the original Boot 132 thread get to space screen but stays there with the ball icon spinning.

I'm using bios 2704 now. I'm using the bios settings listed here...

This happens to me too. Sleep is inconsistent for me lately. Not sure why.
