Ah, I see that link didn't work. This guide (and I tried 5 or 6 of them here with various results) seems to be the easiest and gave me the best results:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...ASUS+P5W+retailI have a 99% pure install that has not given me a single error! Good Luck.
I appreciate this

Thx! I'll try that in the next few days, cause I'm busy and I'll post the results here.
Thx again!

It looks like the Asus P5W is starting to go out of stock across the internet retailers. Earlier this week newegg deactivated the item.
I've been researching a lot of the motherboards and this one always seems to be the clear winner for working mostly unpatched out-of-the-box.
Do I go with this motherboard even though it seems to be at the end of its life or are there better newer boards out there? Suggestions?

I bought mine brand new on eBay from someone and actually saved $50 over what newegg was charging. Those looking for this board might try that. Just remember to check the seller's feedback!
But this also brings up the question, what Asus board is being used to replace the P5W DH Deluxe???

Hi,
would it be save to do a bios update on the motherboard or would there be any interference with Leopard? I'm running Kalyway 10.5.2 (Combo Update) and my bios is 2206. The current version is 2704. Has anybody tried this or can think this through? My install works pretty well, so I'd hate to mess anything up.
Thanks!

Rule of thumb for bios updates: If you don't experience problems related to your mobo bios, don't bother updating!

But on the other hand it should always be possible to downgrade. So why not giving it a try and tell us how well it worked?

IIRC, I am running bios version 2602. I tried 2704 and it did not work properly for me, so I reverted back to 2602 and it works fine.

NO! Already heard that method does not work. I screwed up my install and had to redo everything last night. Search for the method to update to 10.5.2 for this board, the procedure is the same.

I haven't done it yet -- waiting on an update for my graphics card -- but these instructions worked fine for 10.5.2, and are now labeled for 10.5.3, too.
http://netkas.org/?p=50Unrelated to the upgrade, I have a question. Does anyone have a problem with their computer mysteriously coming out of sleep mode? My sleep works fine, but it will wake up on its own either minutes or hours after put to sleep. Sometimes when it does this it'll lock up on wake. I assume it's my USB optical mouse "moving" but I didn't see anywhere in the BIOS to disable wake up on USB. any suggestions?

Actually, I don't use sleep, but I think the reason is, as you said, mouse or keyboard. Asus on their MOBOs has "feature" that USB ports are always powered, no matter what are you set in BIOS. You can only try to change the jumper for USB power (I think it's called +5VSB or smth like that). Look in the manual for that...

@Atze de Vries
installing NVInstaller is not enaugh, this will not overwrite the existing Kexts, you have to use Pacifist to install NVInstaller ... that works !
Why should be a change in APPLE 10.5.3 concerning an Asus Remote Control ?

I had success updating to 10.5.3 today. But it would have been much smoother if I
didn't use the Kalyway combo update.
It's not that it doesn't for our motherboard, it's just that it reverts the hard drive icons back to the orange external ones and disables the graphics card support for Core Image and Quartz Extreme. I fixed these issues by downloading the latest version of NVinstaller (v. 52) and the using another combo updater package to fix the icons.
That combo update is featured in this thread:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102It's kind of a pain to download but worth it because it packs more support in. BUT beware that I did not install 10.5.3 using this updater package as mention above. But if I was to do it again I would. Best of luck using either.

The easiest way to decrease POST times is to disable any IDE/SATA channels that don't have a drive connected.

Does anyone have problems with there wifi not working at the correct speed? The wifi module manual says it is 802.11g (54 mbps) compatible and system profiler says that it is connect to a USB 2.0 hub but, it only operates at USB 1.1 speed (so only 12mbps). Is there any workaround for this?
I'm not satisfied with the slow transfer rates (usually around 120 Kb/s with wifi and when i connect through ethernet i get about 1.5 Mb/s). My computer is in a different room than the router so i can't be connected through ethernet unless I move the entire computer

Help with Wireless and ICH7R Drivers
I have Kalyway 10.5.2 installed and working great, except for 2 issues.
1) I have RAID setup for my windows partition and OSX tried to mount these at startup, but fails with a "Disk Insertion" Error. How can I get OSX not to attempt to mount these drives?
2) I have installed the realtek 8187L driver, but it puts a really ugly icon on the dock, and since I don't use a wireless connection I would like to either disable / un-install the driver or hide the icon. anyone know how?

If the drivers has a dock icon, it means that it's not a driver at all, it's an application that starts when you log in. Try removing it from the login items. That should work. If it doesn't, just delete the whole thing with AppZapper.

Does anyone's ethernet not work after updating to 10.5.3? I usually just used my wireless but i recently tried my ethernet and it doesn't work! I have all the drivers installed but for some reason it doesn't work.
I installed 10.5.2 on another drive and the ethernet worked. When i copied the drivers over to 10.5.3 it doesn't work anymore! Please help!
EDIT: JK i got it to work! I just installed the drivers from the gigabyte_ds3-4pack.1.2.dmg and that solved my problem. It did however, break my wireless. I got a new wifi card to use as an airport. It was working until i installed the ethernet drivers
EDIT AGAIN: I finally fixed everything! just restored the 10.5.3 drivers over the old ones i was using and now airport and both ethernet ports work
