Hi to all,
I've managed to install 10.4.3 on my Sempron 3GHz on an Asrock K8Uprgade-NF3 and Ati 9600 Pro.
By default my card was locket to 1024x768 so I edited boot .plist to enable 1280x1024 resultion...
However, in system profiler it says me that card does not support CI nor QE, so I try editing Ati9700.

Reboot...and It goes! System Profiler says it supports both CI and QE but the system stutters: in dashboard I can see rippling effect but it's damnately slow :-(

By now I've moved all Ati kext into another folder and rebooted to go back to generic drivers which is mooore uasble beside Ati9700 modded way.

But, how could it be fixed to have CI and QE without that issue ?

Another thing, System Profiler says that my card is on PCI bus - in fact it is on AGP, how to fix it ?

Thanks in advance. ;-)

AMD+ATI = slow QE
INTEL+ATI = fast QE

Itsa known "bug".

You don't need to remove 9700.kext
You need to disable just QE support in QuartzDebugger.
To enable QuartzDebugger you must install Developer Tools from install DVD.
After turning off QE, the UI will be fast and you will still have CI and OpenGL.
In 10.4.3 no fix for AGP.
The card can be recognised just as a PCI card.

I hope that this info will help.

Does this apply to *any* ATI card with AMD cpu's? Cause I'm running 10.4.3 on an AMD 64 and wanted to have decent QE and CI support, is it not possible right now with my cpu?

YEAH!! :-) Thanks a lot, I got it working but I have that annoying mouse artifacts which I could try to reduce with Mouseposè trick...right now I prefer generic vesa support but as soon I'll need video acceleration, I'll have to fix it at best.

Thanks a lot ;-)

Anyone found out what is causing this speed issue? I have the same problem, with QE disabled everything is
smooth and still have CI and OpenGL, but of course it would be nice to also have QE.

I am running Asus K8N nForce3 AGP, with AMD64 3200+ and AGP Radeon 9600 PRO 256MB.

Thanks,
Hasan
Do you guys Have venice + cpu's? If not it might be that u will need to use Maxxuss Patched ati SSE2 drivers.

I have a Clawhammer CPU, I am running 81111g, and I have already tried the patched Maxxuss ATI drivers, to no avail. At first the QE problem was still there, after a reboot the Maxxuss drivers broke QE and CI. A fresh reinstall was the only way to get them back. I think it is somehow related to the Clawhammer architecture, as this problem does not appear on Intel systems. However with just CI and OpenGL everything is smooth and fast, including video, so the hardware overlay appears to be working properly (in VLC and Quicktime).
Still it would be nice to have QE happymac.GIF

I just can't thank you enough for this info! I thought something's wrong with me and the computer. I just tried this tweak with ATI 9550 128mb and it work flawless. I enabled Quartz extreme 2D and it seems to be working, although mouse tearing is still present, but for me that's a minor issue!

Thank you so much!

I have the same problem, but Im not sure where to go to disable QE, can someone help?
