Full Version: Wacom on Hackintosh?

Hey guys,

My Intuos3 won't work under OS X. It seems it isn't detected on startup and therefore doesn't work. If the tablet is connected during startup I can't move the cursor around but the blue LED is lit. If I unplug/replug I can move the cursor. System Profiler always sees the tablet on the USB bus, even when I can't even move the cursor.

I have tried reinstalling the driver (latest version), rebooting, connecting it to different USB ports, using different accounts... Always the same error message when I open up the preference pane:

"A USB tablet was not found when the system started."

It works perfectly under Windows XP on the same computer.

Has anyone experienced this?

I use a Wacom Graphire 2 and never had any problem.

Works out of the box with all versions of OSx86.

Maybe because you have AMD and i have Intel processor.

No that couldn't be the problem. Wacom tech support suggests it could be a software interference of some sort.

My Graphire2 also works fine on OS X, hackintosh or otherwise...

Yeah, I'm not surprised, it should work. This is really weird, it shows up on the USB bus but the driver doesn't detect it.

Look in System Profiler/Software/Extensions if there is any tablet .kext

Delete kextcaches and mkext from /Library and repair permissions with Disk Utility, then restart and check if it works.
Threepwood
I don't seem to have that folder. I have /System/Library/SystemProfiler/ but there is no Software/Extensions folder.I have Wacom tablet.kext though.

I've been using Wacom Intuos 3 A5 Wide from the first day I installed my Hackintosh. No problems whatsoever (although I still didn't try latest driver, but I don't think it will be any different).

I have Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 + Asus P5W DH, so it might be that there's problem because of AMD processor (although that seems strange to me). It would be interesting to see what are the experiences of other Athlon users.

I mean System Profiler application:

in /Applications/Utilities

Double click in it and look in section Software/Extensions

I can't see why the processor would make a difference. It's about the USB interface, or some software that interferes with it. I haven't had any problems with other USB devices. This is hugely irritating. I have to reboot and go into XP every time I want to use the tablet, maybe do all of my design work there. It cost €290 and now I can't use it the way I planned. sad.gif

I see. There's no tablet related kext here.

ok, so I pretty much have the same problem with my newly bought wacom bamboo tablet. it also says it wasnt detected on startup and suggests that I should restart. that of course didnt help.
and in the system profiler there is no tablet kext. on my macbook the wacom works of course. but when I check the system profiler there is no tablet kext either.

my hackintosh is an amd sempron 1.9ghz (64bit am2 sockel) on an msi mainboard with the jas 10.4.8 install... nothing special here. usb mouse and memory stick seem to be working fine.
I just cant figure out what is wrong here. if I unplug and replug the wacom it works in mouse mode and moves the pointer, but the system tab in the preferences still says it's not detected. so I cant use it in any productive way.

is there something like an usb patch that we might have forgotten here?
any help is appretiated. because besides this issue and some minor mouse tearing my hackintosh is running smooth as a babies butt.

greets,
johny

Hmm, so maybe it has something to do with the AMD processor then? Or the kernel? Seems strange, it should work as well as any other USB device I think.

Any one else with an AMD and a Wacom tablet here?

Intel Pentium D 820 and Wacom Intuos 2 work dandy.

Interesting.

I got a core2duo at the office and tested osx on there as well and the intuos3 I got there worked like a charm. gotta reinstall osx some time and test if the bamboo works as well. if so, it might actually be the amd cpu that is causing this.

i don't have an amd but its def wonky on my comp. i thought it wasn't working at all until i accidentally tried it with the pen upside down. THAT seems to be working but no clue as to why i'm having that problem.

My Wacom tablet works fine, see system specs. I dont think it matters what CPU you have, but with that said, it may be the kernel used for AMD systems.
dismal33
scratch my previous post. turns out the pen was actually busted. got a replacement and now my wacom tablet works without any drivers at all.
stroke
I don't use any drivers and mine works fine. The reason for no drivers is because the drivers "map" your screen to the tablet, which I dislike.
Dang!
I don't think it's anything to do with the processor, I'm having exactly the same problems and I'm running an Intel. Good to know this isn't just a fluke though, anyone got any ideas?
Threepwood
I tried Leopard (10.5.1) and the tablet didn't work with that either. sad.gif

You need the driver for it to work properly. The mapping, the buttons, pressure, tilt, etc. I can't imagine drawing on a tablet that behaves like a mouse. smile.gif

Have you cleared the kext cache Threepwood?
